Naga In Eberron- fluff [Archive] - Wizards Community

My players, stay out!
I'm thinking of running a short campaign based around the conflict between the Nagas and the Rakshasa, which I've adapted on Hellcow's advice from the traditional Hindu version to something a bit more Eberron specific. Advice, questions, and comments are all welcome.

History
The Naga trace their origins back to Khyber, who created them from the spilt blood of Siberys, in mockery of the later’s dragons. The Naga were swiflt subjegated and enslaved by the Rakshasas, being forced to serve as slaves of the Rahjas. When the dragons discoveverd the prophesy and rebelled, the Naga formed a tenuous pact with the dragons, in exchange for their freedom from the Rakshasas and future favors, the Naga would side against their fellow children of Khyber. Of the four Naga castes, three remained loyal, but the Spirit Nagas turned against the dragons shortly after the closure of the war- earning the eternal emnity of both Dragons and the surviving Rakshasas, aswell as that of their fellow Naga.
With the Rahjas bound, the dragons called in their favor of the Naga. The highest Naga caste was forced to take part in a powerful ritual which opened their minds to the spirits of the now nearly extinct Quotals, binding the Naga to the Quotal’s will. The ritual complete, the dragon’s granted the remaining two castes of Naga freedom to do as they pleased, so long as it did not lead to conflict between the two races or aid the Rakshasas.

Caste Roles

The Naga Brahmana caste is composed of the Gaurdian Nagas, bound to the will of the Quotal. Altered in mind and body by their possesion, Gaurdian Nagas are noble creatures, who dedicate their lives to ensureing that the tombs of the Rahjas are not disturbed. The site of each imprisoned Rahja is gaurded by a line of Gaurdian Nagas (although many lines have ended or been destoryed with the passing of the ages), who colletively contain a fraction of the spirit of the Quotals who gave their lives to bind that perticular Rahja.

The Naga Kshatriya caste is composed of Dark Nagas. The most active of the castes durring the war with the Demons, and the most powerful prior to the Quotal possesion of the Brahmanas, Dark Nagas live in the depths of Khyber, preying on the Dark Proginator’s lesser children. In keeping with their racial pact with Dragonkind, they do not seek to free the Rahjas- they do siphon power from the bound fiends. Often found in the company of irvhir kobolds, who follow them with near fanatic devotion, Dark Nagas are coniving creatures, driven by their lust for power and their hatred of the Rakshasas.

The Naga Sudra caste is composed of the Water Nagas. Weakest of the Naga, Sudras now live deep in the jungles of Quabarra and Xen’Drik, where they persue medatative lives and the study of the Prophesey. Passive creatures by nature, Water Nagas take little intrest in the affairs of the world. Like their Dark Naga cousins, the Water Nagas often seek to draw power from the bound Rahjas, although they are less driven in this then the Dark Nagas.

The Naga Paria caste is composed of the Spirit Nagas, shunned by their kin for their betrayal of the pact with the dragons after the conclusion of the Demon wars. Prior to their fall to “untouchable” status, the Spirit Nagas formed the Viasyas caste, intermediaries between the Kshatriya and Sudra. Hunted by the Chamber and the Lords of Dust alike for their betrayals of both factions, few Spirit Naga remain on Eberron. Most haunt the dark reaches of Khyber, avoiding their Dark Naga kin, who regard them as traitors to the races- often leading small cults of the Dragon Bellow, and frequently worrking to embue themselves with the power of the Rahjas, in much the same way as the Gaurdian Nagas channel the power of the Quotals.
