How do people come up with names? I swear, every character I've played I either A) Stole the name or B) Hit random letters and added a few vowels

Siduakal was sdkl ..lol

Z

Valenar Elf

Need a last one, too.. and then a first one for the ancestor... hence the problems. I hate naming things.. I'll never have a kid because of it.

I can see it now

"What should we name it?"
- One month later -
"How about Bob?"
"How creative... "

Bleh, need another Z name if you can, TRRW.

That one is taken for livejournal. ( I must have a journal for the character)

I can't explain it. Its a gift. Just one of those things I've been able to do since I started playing these games.

In my opinion, Valenar names should fluid, like their sword styles. Lots of sharp vowels and compound consonants.

If anyone else needs help naming characters, I can throw em out like nobody's business.

(Other Z Names: Zasthiras, Zelthinth, Zathnaran, Zalanthan, Zethnis)

Okay... a Baatezu general. The name must include 3 Qs, and no Us. It must be at least marginally procnouncable in English. If you can manage to toss a few bizzare combinatios of Z and R I would be truly impressed.

Female Valenar 1:

Awesome.

Curious, do father/son have to have the same patron?

If not, is it POSSIBLE? (Do you know?)

IE: Can an entire line of males, father to son to son to son all have the same patron ancestor they fight for?

Oh, and the 2nd Female is the Mother, the male is Father. And the first female is his main rival, and also love interest.

Oh, and I could use a horse name. (Valenar Warhorse)

Ok, starting from the top:

--
I believe that Valenar males can have the same patron ancestor as their fathers, etc. did, but it is not required.
--
Shifters of the B persuasion: Berrad, Benki, Bas, Bekkar, Binmek, Beddan.
--
Warband: Jathalan Kivaniran Vala (tell people it means "Blades, Speed, Life")
Horse: Imithas ("Swift One")

Well, I'll set up a challenge for you if you don't mind.... mwahahaha :evillaugh

I'd like to see the name of a monstrous centipede, that has been named by the local villagers (name said village), that has been terrorizing the valew here they live (name said vale). A band of adventurers (4 of them, warforged paladin, halfling cleric of the Sovereign Host, human artificer of House Vadalis, and a dwarf bard with the Greater Dragonmark of Warding, name each) is out to kill the thing since it killed the brother of their patron, an Aerenal elf of some reknown sometime, in the past decade (name both).

If you can pull this off I will add you to my list of happy people who shall not be smoten when I manage to rule the world.

I am thoroughly impressed (Especially with that balor name. Sheesh!)

I have a project for you, oh great naming-one. I need exactly 14 names for an NPC pirate-hunting ship crew. I don't remember all the race/gender combos off the top of my head but here are a few to start. I'll give you a brief description of where they come from and what they're good at too (Since this is how I've been identifying them myself, since they are nameless).

Halfling Male: Talenta planes, excellent cook.
Halflign Female: dragonmarked, exiled from house
Male Kalashtar: From Adar, no psionic training, good with crossbow
Female Human: Lhazzar native, catches fish and is good with a trident&net combo
Female Elf: Aerenal, non-artifically decayed

I'll get back to you with the others tomorrow. (They're on my home computer)

Thanks!

TheRedRobedWizard, by the power granted to me by the will of the people and the Souvereigns themselves, I officially dub thee - Giver of Names, Thinktank of Euphony, Namemaster of Khorvaire, Duke of the Syllables and Nicknamer Incarnate. You may put any and all of these titles in your signature and use them with pride and authority till the end of your days.

Honestly, every DM needs your skill to some extent, but you truly excel in it. Good job!

By the way, The Dark Six applied for naming, but I told them you are too busy and can't help them.

Any others in need of nomenclature for characters, towns, animals, monsters, or ninja clans?

-TRRWYes, one for all five.
Character: Warforged wizard, starts with Q, ends with Z or X
Towns: Name of a town that was originally three small thorps, now a major metropolis. Starts with Y.
Animals: Alternate name for the Jackalope. Letters at your discretion. Name should make one think of jackalope.
Monsters: Name for a land squid. Starts with H.
Ninja Clan: Dwarven ninjas, must sound distinctly Germanic. Starts with "Sch".

Do this all, and I shall become your first worshipper! :D

Changeling Warlock from Sharn?
TheRedRobedWizard

03-06-05, 03:25 PM

Here's a couple ideas that popped into my head:
- Danajathiboyx's Dweomer Depot (called "The 3D" by the locals)
- Ma and Pa Melarad's General Store (face it, everyone loves Mom and Pop stores)
- Dana's Curio Shop and Artificing Supplies
-----------------------------
--DanjaNinja--
- Warforged wizard, starts with Q, ends with Z or X: Quix (short for Quixotic)
- Name of a town that was originally three small thorps, now a major metropolis, starts with Y: Yagoba Union (original three thorps were Yarnburg, Gorinth, and Barinton. The mayors decided to put the three names together when they became one, and added the word Union to the end to show that they will always stand united against common threats.)
-Alternate name for the Jackalope: Antelabbit, Rabbihorn, or Horned Bunny.
-Name for a land squid. Starts with H: Humukraken (Humus meaning Earth, Kraken meaning Giant Squid)
-Dwarven ninjas, must sound distinctly Germanic. Starts with "Sch": Schalan der Balgaran Dwaerren Nunjetta ("School of Demonfighter Dwarven Ninja", in Ye Olde Dwarvish)
-----------------------------
-- Magnificate --
Changeling Warlock from Sharn: Del Dura (as Changelings often take the name of the place they are from as part of their name, I'll assume this Changeling is from Lower Dura. Feel free to change the surname as appropriate to his/her region of origin.)

I dont have much time, so I'm just going to list all 14, feel free to ignore the NPCs you've already named. I'm going to copy the first line of their stat blocks, which has a title in quotes instead of names.

“The Cook”, Halfling male Commoner 1
“The Navigator”, Changeling male Magewright 1
“The Seamstress”, Human female Expert 1 (Repairs sails)
“The Dragon Healer”, Human male Expert 1 (Repairs dragon-shaped ramming prow)
“The Shipwright”, Human male Expert 1 (Repairs rest of ship)
“The Doctor”, Halfling female Expert 1
“The Lookout”, Human male Expert 1
“The Night Watch”, Elf female Expert 1
“The Minstrel”, Human female Expert 1

“The Archer”, Elven male Warrior 1 (valenar)
“The Fishcatcher”, Human female Warrior 1
“Port Ballista Crewman”, Human male Warrior 2
“Starboard Ballista Crewman”, Kalashtar male Warrior 2

And if you can swing it, a name for a gestalt Wizard/Artificer warforged. So far he's named Forge, but I think thats just a bit silly..

Actually, the names were chosen soley upon the fact that an Iron Defender is a scary dog golem thing with big pointy teeth. Its "Jaws" "Shred" you in the face, it "Snarl"s at you, "Chop"s you to bits, then the little "Pup" goes back to its master with the prize.

Ok, I need a few Kalashtar names.

1 Family. Father is a Kalashtar "General", Mother is a seer. Youngest brother is following in his father's footsteps, and 1 daughter. Also need an ame for a female Kal diplomat and a Male Kal monk.

Also need an Inspired Dreaming Dark agent, Assassin type...

Many thanks in advance

They just had to be Kalashtar. ;) Kalashtar naming conventions are nearly a mystery to me, but I'll assume that each person has the same "suffix" as their same gender parent. Also, with no guide for Inspired names, I'll just make it sound "more important" than the Kalashtar ones.

Father: General Nashaklantash
Mother: Beleshartari
Son: Kuranthatash
Daughter: Dalashkuntari

Female Diplomat: Lakanthavakri
Male Monk: Kirtothmelk

Insired Dreaming Dark Agent: Rivesakan ueth Kathtori (Rivesakan the Hunter)

5 Quarters and 15 Districts in Stormhome! Base of House Lyrandar! ;)

-- Isran_Imrador --

Well, my first problem is calling them quarters. If there are five of them, I have an urge to call them something else, but since that's what you asked for...

Also, each of the Quarters is named after a type of storm (it was made by House Lyrandar and all), and each of the districts is named after one of the most famous (or infamous) members of House Lyrandar.

The Five "Quarters" of Stormhome and its Fifteen Districts

Quarter 1 - Tempest
Districts within Tempest: Hapan, Belgeth, Rezzo

Quarter 2 - Squall
Districts within Squall: Furion, Linshir, Vekka

Quarter 3 - Typhoon
Districts within Typhoon: Oda, Pashan, Paneka

Quarter 4 - Whirlwind
Districts within Whirlwind: Narami, Wachisa, Aramath

Quarter 5 - Hurricane
Districts within Hurricane: Oethan, Dorinath, Binegan

People:

Male Cannith, Greater Dragonmark, left Cyre two years before it was destroyed and lives in Breland. Was favored to take over the house. Is a psion, has a dragon for an ancestor (magical attempts to enhance the power of the dragonmark)*.

Female personality Warforged, survivor of Cannith experiments with components. Likes giggling while she bashes things, low intelligence.

Female human of Cyre origin, friend of the two above, is an artificer.

Female succubus, is a wizard, currently owns a large magical castle in Breland and is fighting the Cannith male and his friends for control of her home.

Male dwarf, powerful artificer, once lived in Cyre.

Place: The large magical castle mentioned above. Has large amounts og Giant and Drow writing in it. Has a list of secrets longer than the list of documents classified by the White House. Is rumored to be able to teleport.

Edit:

* The conversation that inspired him went like this: "I wonder if the dragon marks are related to dragons?" "It would make sense." "Well, what would happen if a dragon bred into a dragonmarked house?"

Maul: Spinesheathe, Skullcrusher, Necromaul, Marrowhammer
(My question would be, how is it two bugbear spines entwined around each other? First of all, as large-ish creatures, each bugbear would have a spinal diameter of at least 4 inches. That means the haft of this weapon is at least 8 inches wide. Beyond that, the skulls would end up being about 3 1/2 feet from end to end. One thing I use (though it would never replace a talented name-author like TRRW) is the Everchanging Book of Names. It's an app that generates "rules" for names based on a list you supply. It's handy when you have to generate, say, 100 names at a time, but of course I'd never use it for naming my own character.

Nevertheless, I've been stymied by Eberron. I went through the source material (everything except the novel, at this point) as carefully as possible to generate lists of names from which the program could work. While I had no problem coming up with, say, human male or female given name lists (with 122 and 96 names respectively), I had more trouble with other races. For instance, I could only find 2 goblin female given names, 5 dwarf female given names, 6 half-orc female given names and 9 kalashtar female given names. I separated out dwarf clan names (15) from generic family names (207), but is that far enough?

Essentially, I have a few questions I'd like to have answered:
1) Are there significant differences in the family/clan names of humans versus elves, halflings, gnomes, etc.?
2) Many (but not all) gnomes have three names, typically (but not always) a short one in the middle. What is the significance of the middle name? Should it be a separate file for name-generating purposes?
3) Could secondary sources of names be used? For instance, many generic fantasy dwarf and elf names appear in Dragon magazine. Would those be sufficiently "Eberron" to fit?

Anyway, O Wise One, I ask your opinion on these matters. Many thanks!
TheRedRobedWizard

03-18-05, 11:10 PM
1) Are there significant differences in the family/clan names of humans versus elves, halflings, gnomes, etc.?

From my experience; Elves, Halflings, Gnomes, Dwarves, Orcs, and Humans all have different name structures for their family names. Every once in a while, a Human family might have an Elven-sounding family name, but that is primarily when an ancestor had strong ties to the Elven community.

Given names are a completely different bag, though. A lot of Human parents give their children Elven names to make them sound more "educated". A friend of mine took his Human Wizard's name (Arundel Adarion) from the list of names for Elves in the Hero Builder's Guidebook. His explaination was that he trained exclusively with Elven Wizards, and he took the name so that he would fit in better.

2) Many (but not all) gnomes have three names, typically (but not always) a short one in the middle. What is the significance of the middle name? Should it be a separate file for name-generating purposes?

The way I've seen it, the shorter middle name is either a childhood nickname or possibly the first syllable of their same gender parent's given name. I figure one out of every 2 Gnomes has a middle name.

Could be a seperate file, as most of them are generally one sylable. It'd be a smaller file, to be sure.

3) Could secondary sources of names be used? For instance, many generic fantasy dwarf and elf names appear in Dragon magazine. Would those be sufficiently "Eberron" to fit?

Most generic Elven and Dwarven names would work fine for Eberron, with some tweaks. The generic Elven names would probably primarily apply to the Aerenal Elves moreso than the Valenar or Khorvarian Elves.

Khorvarian Elves would generally follow the Aerenal Elves with the exception that some Elves would possibly take names from other races, due to proximity. Some parents might want their child to have a more "common" sounding name so they blend in better in a smaller city. Such a parent might name their child after a famous local hero (Sir Chadwick Daltogath the Brave - Chadwick Daltogath {Family Name}, etc.) or even just a "cool sounding word" from another language.

Though be very careful when translating Gnome words into names, as like Japanese, many words have several meanings. Ticdonadek might mean "brilliant", but in the wrong context it could also mean "pervert", "cow face", or possibly "fat headed stupid elf-pants".

------------------

Feel free to add the names from this thread to your name generator program.

Also, all of these are just my opinions, perhaps Keith or one of the other designers could weigh in on this. Mayhaps someone should paste this into the AKB thread.

I could be completely wrong on all counts, but take from this what you will.

I am looking for a name for a character that I just started to make. He is from the fallen keep of Shadukar in Thrane. He is the last remaining member of the noble family of Shadukar. He is a gestalt character, paladin/battle sorcerer. He is a member of the Church of the Silver Flame, which have looked after him since the fall of Shadukar. He is a 25 year old human. Any ideas?
G K T S or W, I went with Gareth Wulf ir'Sigmond but was looking for a better one.

TRRW, since you're the expert and seem to enjoy this stuff, I need some help here.

I'll throw out a little background on my character and you can fill in the blanks.

Said character hails from Karrlakton, Karrnath and is a member of the Deneith noble family as well as an inactive member of the Blademarks Guild. Born and raised in Karrlakton, (*) enrolled in the warmage academy at the age of 14 and was sent to Fort Bones to learn the militant art of warmage. High Warmaster (---), instructed (*) until the age of 22 when he left the academy to join the Blademarks guild and reunite with the Deneith family. He developed a worthy reputation as a guy who always got the job done and by the young age of 24 was already allowed to take assignments on his own without consulting his peers.

(*) refers to my characters name. Male, human, warmage/fighter of House Denieth. I'd like a couple of options with the letters M, J, and let see X. I also need a name for his mount, which is a light warhorse. I like something that sounds fast and intimidating, if possible.
(---) This is a missing name for my characters instructor at Fort Bones.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry for the appearant lack of checking on my part. Work is an evil thing that seems to absorb me on a nearly daily basis.

Also, from here on out, I'm going to try and explain why I named things the way I did. Just more information for people to work with.

Back to the grind.

-- zenwolfe --

Well, I like the direction you were going, but I'll expand on your pattern.

Human Noble Paladin/BattleSorcerer from Shadukar: Garaith Wyatt ir'Sigmund

------------------

-- waldoh --

I had an idea when I read this post. Going back to an old post wherein someone wanted a James Bond-esq Assassin name; I thought that the coolest way to have these Rogues named is by "codename". Generally they use animal names to make them sound more intimidating. I'm going to go with a Talentan-ish name scheme for them, with Dinosaurs serving as inspiration. Generally these names will match up with the particular rogue's modus operandi.

Human Rogues: Fintail, Fleshraker, Thunderherder, Glidewing, Spineback
Halfling Rogues: Clawfoot, Threehorn, Fastieth
Guildmaster: Swordtooth
Guild Name: The Bloodstrikers

Bard names are rather easy to come up with. Most Bards change their name from something boring and "usual" to something ostentatious and "exotic"; much like Hollywood actors/actresses today.

Bards: Hiram Hallion, Antoni Graviga, Cura Diyan, Serendipity Ruark.

------------------

-- Joni-san --

Ah, Joni, as always you come up with interesting challenges.

- A "Concerned Citizens Brigade" in Sharn: The Ashblack Nine
(Of course, they operate in and around the Cogs and save the citizenry from criminals in an area where the Law doesn't venture.)

- A Town Watch in Kharrnath: The Eyes of Kaius
(I mean, he's the King. The King needs eyes in the town to keep the peace, after all.)

- A Goblin Teacher [Ancient Philosophy]: Professor Ma'aruukt Rhagaal, Esq.
(Hey, Gobbo names are pretty easy. A consonant here, a double vowel there. It's making it sound cool that's the hard part.)

- A Homnunculus: Cad'dac
(Now, this one is difficult, as there are now like 3842834 different Homonculi, but I'll assume it's just the generic kind from the Monster Manual. Also, I'll assume that it belongs to the Changeling Evoker mentioned below.)

- A Changeling Evoker: Dac Retratserif [Reh-trah-serrif]
(Ah, changelings. So complex in their simplicity. The last name is, of course, Firestarter spelled backwards. What good Evoker doesn't start a few fires?)

My apologies, MMJ. You'll have to forgive me, as when I posted that, I was just coming off a 10 hour day at work, and was rather tired.

Now, having had my evening tea and bacon double cheeseburger, I should be able to more correctly address your request.

Also, I've fixed my above post by removing what I'd had posted in regards to your request. Ya know, gotta stop people from getting confused.

- Generic Barbarian: Oroc Takeeg
- Human Fighter: Gelliam Grabe
- Human Paladin: Nothan Barise (Bah-ree-say)
- Dwarf / Human Cleric: Hundir Kasavlagn (Kah-zav-lah-gin), Hevan Joren
- Human / Elf Ranger: Keevan Ralon, Lashinthos Vaerdith
- Human / Gnome / Elf Sorcerer: Badec Naiden, Tektikche Rin Vicdol, Nael Anthis

You didn't specify a race for the Barbarian, so I just made up a generally barbaric sounding name. Should fit for an Orc, Half-Orc, Human, or Shifter. The other names are in order, according to the race listed first in the request.

for no reason but to test you:
a half-ethereal dragon (they are real, look in the draconomicon)-half fire giant born of forced breeding, and his original name was an insult to his dragon mother (a very long name), he and his low intelligence fire giant father escaped from Xen'drik to Khovaire, his father was slain by an orc necromancer whos parents were slain by fire giants so in revenge, the necromancer put him to slavery, giving him an insulting orcish chage to his already insulting name, soon he escaped and met a frostfell halfling sorcerer who gave him a nickname because his name was too long, later, after amnesia and only knowing his nickname, he met a gnome who changed his nickname to a full name, different and longer than his original, the original contains no u's, one t, begins with an s, contains two ', and is seven sillablles

and an idea i have, why not give characters the named of deities from other settings

TRRW thank you for this great list of names! It looks like tiering work so have a cookie! :cookie:

2 quick requests:
1) In our campaign my girlfriend is playing an adolesent female longstrider shifter Scout/Ranger from the cogs of Sharn. She is innocent and playful but froucious in combat relying on hit and run tactics and is emulating her self after the party swashbuckler (likes shiny things/people) and has become a kind of Puss-in-Boots. Now because she has had no family or friends growing up she has no name except as her mood strikes her, the party tends to call her Kitty, Furball, ect. I was hoping you could suggest some possible names for her to take up and discard over the course of our adventure(as many as you can think of) and a final name to keep for life.

2) I've made a backup charicter, human rouge/sorc from south-east Cyre, based off of the title charicter from Robert Rodreguez's "El Mariachi" film trilogy. Now I want him to still be the namless stranger but what would people (especially party members) call him that brings up the idea of El Mariachi but isn't so obviously borrowed.

Thanks for your help and because this is longer than I expected have another cookie :cookie:, Oh Great One

Oh, alright. I see how we're going to play this. *cracks knuckles* It's on now.

-- old friend --

I'll start off by answering your question: I wouldn't use the names of deities from other settings, because I don't want my names to be completely Eberron specific. Some Realmsers might have wandered in here while the bouncer wasn't looking. ;)

(Half-Ethereal dragon / Half fire giant)
Original Name: Sadarat'agdor'nograk (Giantish for "Above the Dragons")
Name given by Orc Necromancer: Shakadar Okdar Nagool ("Without Soul or Mind")
Nickname given by Frostfell Halfling Sorcerer: Farakira ("Fire Soul")
New name given by Gnome: Sarikakitenshichikushido (Sah-rik-ahk-ee-ten-shi-chee-coo-shee-doh)

(Dragon Mother): Kraganarath Igniran Jirukas ("Flames Seeking Enlightenment")
(Fire Giant Father): Yagiguk ("Slowpoke")
(Orc Necromancer): Vashruuk Jurgaal ("Fears None")
(Frostfell Halfling Sorcerer): Redae Fireeyes
(Gnome): Astikirikantirikis Vekirinto (As-tee-kee-ree-kan-tee-ree-kiss Veh-kee-rin-toh)

I apologize for only having a partial pronunciation guide, but I figure the ones I didn't explain are pretty well phonetic.

Purple Dragon Cohort: Viograngirithar ("Vio")

Vega is a solid base, but it needs a little more oomph to really give it something special. Vega works as a good nickname or last name for a general; though a strong first name would lead creedance to his status. Then again, he could have a very "sissy" sounding first name, which could be the reason for him using his nickname/middle name/last name instead.

I think I'll go with the powerful sounding name.

Purple Dragon Knight Leader: (General/Sir) Suerol Vega (Soo-air-ol)

A little guideline for future reference, please, if you're going to ask for assistance, at least provide the gender and race you're trying to get a name for, as this will make it easier for me to put them together. If no race or gender is given, I will assume Female Elf.

Sorry to get so stringent, but without guidelines, the names will be horrendously out of context and not nearly as cool as they could have been.

I wish to play as a terribly honorable Human Fighter, leader of men, and war veteran who lives by a chivilric code similar to that of a paladin's. He cannot be touched in combat if he does not wish to be (via feats he can jack his AC up well over 20 points if he is willing to sacrifice a like amount of Attack Bonus. Anyone standing adjacent to him gets the same +20 bonus or more to their ACs as a dodge bonus without having to sacrifice their personal attack rolls). Needless to say, he is the ultimate defensive fighter. At 6th level he held off a 12-headed hydra for over 1 minute while his men escaped its wrath. He didn't kill it, but his defensive fighting style ensured his survival and the survival of his men. He wields an admantine sword, +2 heavy mithral shield, and +2 mithral breatplate. Please name this man From Karnath and give him some cool title for saving his men from the most deadly Hydra. Also, name his ancestral armor, shield, and sword.

Throw in a few names and ranks of the Karnathi soldiers he fought alongside so that I can referance "old friends" in game (give me about 8; 1 for each adjacent square around my PC). Most of said men were either equal to him or below him in rank and all are greatful for what he did for them in the past. The are likely the ones who named him after the Hydra incident. Keep in mind that my character never rose too high in rank in the war, he refused anything that wouldn't let him continue to do field work with his men.

Thanks for any help you provide.

Awesome, TheRedRobedWizard. You do deserve a custom title. Design one for yourself :P

Now, for some rather different challenges:

Weapon Names
Crysteel halberd, belonged to a famous Kalashtar soldier and resistance fighter against the Riedran Inspired.
Merciful dinosaur bane shortbow designed by Talenta halflings for subduing dinosaurs in emergency cases.
Spiked chain with the wounding and speed properties crafted and owned by a blackguard of the Fury.
Silver greataxe used by the Church of the Silver Flame in their lycanthrope purges (guess what it was used for?)
Enchanted ballista, a personal weapon of the Lord of Blades.
Magic, shrinking and resizing daggers that are very easy to hide and are becoming very popular in Sharn, both among criminals and the city watch - the halfling artificer who produces and sells these is making a killing. Advertised business name and a 'street' nickname, perhaps?

Fighting Style Names
Two-weapon fighting with a longsword and a kama, favored by an elite sect of Dol Arrah's monks. (Dol Arrah's the Lady of Flame and Battle, right? I keep mixing up the Dols)
A fighting style used by some of the deathless guards who watch over the Undying Court, where an intruder finds himself facing guards always in trios. One with a longsword and tower shield, and two other with guisarmes. The two with guisarmes keep foes on the ground as often as possible while the tower shield wielder protects them.

Spell Names
When cast upon a length of rope at least 50 ft. long, this spell turns the rope into a little sphere the size of a man's hand, similar to a ball of yarn. When thrown, this sphere explodes in a mass of animated rope and quickly hogties its target.
Made by the same wizard who created the above spell, this spell turns any rope within a close radius into stone. Favored by town guards. Escape those bindings now, whydontcha. :evillaugh:
This assassin spell was created by a goblin cutthroat, and it gives the caster an extra pair of illusionary arms, which holds an illusionary weapon or two. This can be deadly in combat, when a foe can't tell which pair of arms is real and needs to be blocked against.
A paladin spell developed and used by followers of the Silver Flame, this gives an ally fast healing while engulfing them in flames for a short period of time. The flames of course do not hurt the ally, but are dangerous to their foes, especially undead.

Monster Name
A living twinned blade storm spell that has been terrorizing the Q'barran fringes lately. The lizardfolk, nearby halflings, and human caravan drivers will all have different names for this threat, although some names may be based on the creature's name in another language.

Now, looking back, I realized I've just posted a massive challenge for no reason other than to challenge TRRW, while other people have legitimate character name concerns. Feel so guilty :( Please leave my challenge until last, TRRW, as others need your skills more than I. I have no doubt that you'll amaze us all. :ayyyy!:

- A Warforged Rogue working with the Anthropology and Archeology department of Morgrave University: Dr. Delve
- A name for a old Childrens Story: "The Warlock Comes Calling" (originally penned by Arde d'Sivis)
- "Boogieman" from the above Story: The Stranger (the Warlock mentioned in the title, no real name is ever given for fear of summoning the Warlock. Little does the average peasant know that the story truly does contain the soul of the Warlock, bound into the words. Speaking his true name aloud will allow him to break free of the spell, cast long ago by the Bard/Sublime Chord/Archmage, Ardelarikas "Arde" d'Sivis.)

Weapon Names

- Crysteel halberd, belonged to a famous Kalashtar soldier and resistance fighter against the Riedran Inspired: Barakhur Luridakhan ("Blade of Pennance")
- Merciful Dinosaur Bane shortbow designed by Talenta halflings for subduing dinosaurs in emergency cases: Dahlanata an Scadal ("Subduer of Giant Lizards")
- Spiked chain with the wounding and speed properties crafted and owned by a blackguard of the Fury: Fleshreaver
- Silver greataxe used by the Church of the Silver Flame in their lycanthrope purges: Purity of Flame
- Enchanted ballista, a personal weapon of the Lord of Blades: Forger of Siege
-Magic, shrinking and resizing daggers that are very easy to hide and are becoming very popular in Sharn, both among criminals and the city watch; Advertised business name and a 'street' nickname: "Quaveral's Quick Q'iller", "Three Q Blade".

Fighting Style Names

- Two-weapon fighting with a longsword and a kama, favored by an elite sect of Dol Arrah's monks: Sun and Star Style

- A fighting style used by some of the deathless guards who watch over the Undying Court, where an intruder finds himself facing guards always in trios. One with a longsword and tower shield, and two other with guisarmes. The two with guisarmes keep foes on the ground as often as possible while the tower shield wielder protects them: Eaedrath Palathiras aed Balinithra ("Theft of Balance and Hubris")

Spell Names

- When cast upon a length of rope at least 50 ft. long, this spell turns the rope into a little sphere the size of a man's hand, similar to a ball of yarn. When thrown, this sphere explodes in a mass of animated rope and quickly hogties its target: Caedras's Cord Cage (Wiz/Sor 2 - Transmutation)

- Made by the same wizard who created the above spell, this spell turns any rope within a close radius into stone: Caedras's Cobblestone Cord (Wiz/Sor 3 - Transmutation)

- This assassin spell was created by a goblin cutthroat, and it gives the caster an extra pair of illusionary arms, which holds an illusionary weapon or two. This can be deadly in combat, when a foe can't tell which pair of arms is real and needs to be blocked against: Jakruukan's Feint of Fury (Asn 2, Wiz/Sorc 4 - Illusion [Figment])

- A paladin spell developed and used by followers of the Silver Flame, this gives an ally fast healing while engulfing them in flames for a short period of time. The flames of course do not hurt the ally, but are dangerous to their foes, especially undead: The Fires that Cleanse (Pal 4, Clr 5 - Conjuration [Healing])

Monster Name

- A living Twinned Bladestorm spell that has been terrorizing the Q'barran fringes lately. The lizardfolk, nearby halflings, and human caravan drivers will all have different names for this threat, although some names may be based on the creature's name in another language.

Lizardfolk Name: Ssurakarash (Slicewind)
Halfling Name: Sakalasad (Razor's Storm)
Human Name: Scourgewind

Okay I need a name for a male Valenar Elf Archer (Preferably starting with a V) his patron ancestor, and the name of his family Longbow.

I could also use names for the seven surviving members of his warband, including;

the Keeper of the past (Male Valenar Cleric)
and the Wizard (Female Valenar Wizard)

the other four surviors are Ranger/Fighters 2 male and 2 female.

Hey, its me again. I'm having trouble naming enemies for the ship crew I had you name, and I'd greatly appreciate you giving names to these 5 pirate captains. (Also, if you can think of a good name for the vessel they captain, that would be awesome).

Human aristocrat-turned-pirate. I imagine he'd be from Karnnath. He's a rather bad pirate, and kind of the comic relief. First time he shows up, the PCs will overhead the captain of their boat say "Him again? Keeper take it, who keeps giving him boats?".

A hobgoblin Darguun captain.

A rival Lhazzar privateer (sanctioned by a different Lhazzar Prince than the PC's captain of course). Human.

A blackscale lizard folk who pirates ships along the southern boarder of the Principalities.

A very dangerous and very feared valenar elf pirate captain. He is independant of any of the princes and seeks to reclaim the glory of an ancestor known for his naval escapades.

Just a few more requests... :help:

* "The forest witch". A human old woman (about 60 years old) who is really a druid level 1 / expert level 3 who lives in the forest and is known as "the forest witch" for the people of the nearest village.

* Name for that forest (Aundair). (The nearest village is called Lagar)

* Name for a brothel located in Karnath.

* Name for the brothel's owner, a human woman (about 35 years old) who had work years ago in this "business"

* A female elf who is working in the brothel (and if you are inspired 3 or 4 aditional names for the rest of the "staff")

* A male noble (also from Karnath) who workships the Blood of Vol and would be one of the main antagonist of the story (noble 6/cleric 4).

* the noble's bodyguards: one male half-orc (warrior 6) and one male elf (thief 3/ warrior 4)

OK, my character is a warforged fighter/monk from Cyre who was attacking a monastery of the Order of the Broken Blade in Breland the day that the war ended, and then decided to help the monks rebuild their home and eventually joined their order. They have now sent him out into the world to gain wisdom through crossing swords. He's one of those warforged who only has a number, so he considers his search for a name to be an extremely important part of his spiritual awakening.
He's a Whirling Steel monk, so I actually need a name for him and a name for the sword he will eventually forge. They could be the same name, now that I think about it.
I'm wanting something that isn't like the typical wf names where you can tell that it's just what the wf's buddies call him because it's what he does best. (By the way, Floater and Sinker were truly inspired.) It could be common, elvish, dwarven, whatever. But it should mean something, and sound cool when he says it in that deep, fluidy-sounding voice that wf have.
Sorry to make such a tall order, and I wouldn't be upset if you just replied with "Slasher". But I wouldn't ask if I didn't think you were wholly capable.

OH GREAT NAMER OF NAMES who is called Red Robed Wizard (irony)

if you would be so kind:

a TN half-elf Monk/Cleric sold to pirates as a small child, escaped to Adar in Sarlona and receved monastic training from a group that revered the protective blue dragons. only to come of age and in an effort to return to Korvaire, he wrecked his ship on a small island of Argonessen. While searching for supplies to repair the damage he came across two Seren tribes combating, the Stormwalkers and the White Wanderers. noticing a Blue dragon insignia he helped the Stormwalkers who then (after much guttoral debate) and a few attempted murders aided him with supplies and a threat of death if he ever returned. or at least thats what he figures.
Returning to Khorvaire he finds those that bore what he remembered as his family name (human bandits) had been slain years earlier after foolishly attempting to steal treasure from Arneal.
after all he had been through he now worships what he knows
Domains: Air, Deathbound

i would be indebted to you if you would be so kind as to provide the name he was born with, recieved on the pirate ship, in the mountains of Adar, on the shores of Argonessen, and what he thinks his name used to be.

real first name starts with So surname starts with Co

I would also like to extend my gratitude for the names I have already used. I have also found an area you have not gone to yet. Somewhat of a challange but with no real hurry I have about two weeks. So here it goes.

Half-elf male captain of boat to Frostfell
His male gnome scribe (secretly a member of the Trust)
His female contact in town for passing information to Zilargo

Name of the small dwarf outpost and its female leader

There are two human tribes that used to be one before the male leader died and his son and daughter split it into two separate tribes, the daughter closer to civilization the son more barbaric and hardy. Name all please.

Name of glacier dwarf clan that has died out, but was supposed to protect seven artifacts of unknown power and the old and new names for their citadel built into the depths of a glacier but now near the edge. Also the name of its last king in a (### son of ###, epithet) format, and the current excavator and his assistant all male. Also how the artifacts were referred by the glaicer dwarves and the current ones. As well as the kalashter and dreaming dark, who know that they can be used to open a planer portal even with Dal Quor.

Thanks in advance from both me and my PC's who wish I could make names better than Bob.

This is awesome :)

ok here's my upcoming party (I wonder how you would name them)

- A human boy (LG Psion, Telepath 1, age 14). His parents were farmers and he grew up in a small farming village in Breland near Darguun. Both his parents were killed during a goblin raid.
(name for the boy and the village, possibly the parents as well, name of the goblin leader who raided his village)

- A changeling (NE Assassin 1, age 26) from Aundair. He was abandoned by his family when he was 10 and lived on the streets until he was found by a man who took him in and raised him as a son. The man was a master assassin who thaught the boy how to survive and how to kill.
(name of the changeling, name of his adoptive father, name of an ancient underground shadow organization the father was involved with)

- A human soldier from Cyre (Mourner), (LG Fighter, age 42), I see this guy much like Daine from the City of Towers novel. He lost his country and everything he ever believed in. He now travels to Sharn to start a new life.

- A Kalashtar Woman (CG Soulblade, age unknown) I still have to work on this character, she should be very misterious, keeping to herself most of the time. She does take an interest in the boy recognizing his psionic abilities.

- A gnome woman (CG Artificer, age ?? how old do gnomes get), an elderly woman who served in the war. Still fleshing her out as well.

cheers, and thanks for all the great names

Awesome, truely awesome ! thanks a lot for taking the time to do this great Wizard :)

I did mean Assassin not Rogue. I use the Assassin class from the d20 book "City Works" by Legends and Lairs. You also have a base Assassin class in the d20 Assassin handbook by Green Ronin Publishing.

The class I use from City Works is great, it's powerfull but not really overpowered and it's fun since you can play it starting at level 1 which is important to keep levels low in the Eberron setting.

thanks again

My next adventure will take place in Blade Desert. I need:

-one "arabian" name of an oasis controlled by Talenta halfings nomads,
-one "arabian" name of destroyed/dry well,
-one nickname of a dire turtle, it's rumored that a powerful spell/treasure map is carved on its shell,
-one nickaname of warforged desert scout,
-one name and nickname of male truedive shifter barbarian from southern Mror Holds. His well known for swimming in the volcano (yes, in the hot lava itself )
-one "arabic" title and nickname for warforged cleric (Weather & Water), whose main goal is to irrigate the Blade Desert.

Thanks in advance.

In an upcoming campaign I have a PC who will be playing a male Valenar Elf, he needs a first and surname for him, a name for his horse, a first and surname for his ancestor.

Also a name for his warband. The symbol for which is a longsword, blade down, with two serpents entwined around the blade and preparing to bite the crosspiece, there is an onyx in the pommel. If you could be bothered, a name for his sword would also be appreciated.

Thank you in advance for sharing your wisdom. Naming is always a sticky spot for this PC, and you, being the naming master, are an answer to his prayers.

Hello there, RRW! I wanted to say that you are truly an artist with name? Haven't you ever think to start a business with that? People who want a name for their new child call you and you give a name... Just kidding but could you help me I need some names for my next game please.

Two warforged created in a secret forge of the LoB. They were created to fight along, one is an artificer created to patch up the other a Fighter. I would like their name to have a link.

I also need a name for an Inspired captain who'll launch a stealth attack on Adar. And a old Kalashtar monk and tutor. An name for the Elan who's his pupil.

Thanks a lot!

Wow... I came to this thread for inspiration to name a new character I'll be playing. Instead I find a truely tallented individual. TRRW, I would appreciate your assistance in naming.

The subject? A Blue (goblin) Telepath, male, widower of Silliah (Half-orc druid eaten by a 'flayer.) Slightly paranoid, and often lonely. Feels terribly responsible to work against mental domination of all kinds, not just psionic.

I'm asking for two names, a true goblin first name and surname and also a chosen name.

Naming conventions: I do not have a set of beginning letters. However, for the chosen name I'd like the name to flow (in an elven fashion) and yet still be goblinish in heritage.

Here are some names of allies/friends from his past, most dead, lost or enslaved.

Altaris :D
Aalisar (Aasimar Paladin)
Andonias (Tiefling Warlock)
(Hey, I find it easy to make names with A's)
Jonasash 'Lenns' (male elven Archmage/Diviner)
Myriad (Changeling Bard)
Urgaz dol Aluk (Mror Dwarven Ranger/Darkhunter)
Silliah (of course, being his late wife)

Thank you in advance Red!

TRRW: I require your talents

I'm looking for the full name for the dwarven captain of a trading vessel hailing from the Mror Holds. Also a few random dwarven first names for members of his crew. Also, the name of the ship. It should be something suitably dwarven-sounding, as it will be carrying a cargo of iron and mithral ore on their way to Sharn.

Also if you can come up with a couple sahuagin sounding names that would be helpful as well.

Thanks

Okay, TRRW.. I have returned to steal your wisdom!

Characters name is Xyrcai Felldrake, he's a human who stumbled onto his fortune when his rich mother gave him some land and he decided to have it surveyed and mined and such, and found a diamond mine. Sold the mine for.. a lot.

Used the cash to open 3 Businesses.

That'd be sweet. I've decided to go with the name of 'Cael.' Rather more gaelic than I intended, for his 'nickname.' I chose the goblin name of 'Maarka'gul uul Urgatz.' Still though, I'd like to see what you come up with.

Okay TRRW here is a request...

A very tragic Female Human(or half-elf) with the human name of Elexia...

Is a Half-Dragon with an Abbarent Mark that unfortunately seems to resemble the mark of death a bit too much...

Had her wings cut off by agents of the Chamber...

Lost her right hand and had it replaced.....(wings were eventually replaced...kinda)

You pick dragon speicies she is half off

I need a nickname that humans would give her......

I need a draconic name for her......

I need a name that the Chamber use to identify her...

I need the name of her draconic father....

Name of her mother....(still trying to decide if i want the mother to be human or elf)

and she kinda wears black alot.....

And has red eyes.....A name to go with the red eyes would be greatly appreciated.....

And I need a cover name for her brother Azi Dahaka.....(he is an agent of the chamber and secretly a member of the church of the silver flame)

I also need a name for a elven ranger who has piercing eyes, wears a black/green cloak and hood...

Famous for his part within the mark of wars and feared due to a certain legend about him...

I also need a name that people refer to him as....

And I need a name for his two swords that he wields....according to the legend that he is famous in....The blades of his two swords were made out of the fangs of a dragon...probably a name approapriate to match the legend....

sorry for the long request..... :(

Thank you and I trust you all (especially you naming guru) are having a good day

Heya TRRW. Need a name for a PC I'm making.

It's not Eberron-specific. Far as I can tell about the campaign is that the characters have been falsely accused of a crime and thrown into a dungeon to fight their way out (Like Smash TV, or a dungeonbound gladiator fight) There are magical sensors installed for outsider's viewing pleasure.

Anyhow, 'nough rambling.

Need a name for a Human Swashbuckler (starting at higher than first, about 10th, some combination of Fighter, Rogue, Swashbuckler, or Duelist classes).
Fights Rapier and dagger, tends to be a bit of a showoff, and will make flashy finishes only when it's "safe" for him to do so (i.e. doesn't leave him open for a sword in the gut.)

I'd also like a nickname or appellation given to him either before or after he gets thrown in. Do you get my gist?

TheRedRobedWizard: My character Jorakane Loweflight (NE male kenku transmuter 5/Sharn skymage 1), Kokoro Nigthay (CN female changeling rogue 4/ranger 2), & Shugo Silfer (CN male human fighter 6) have just purchased an upscale magic shop in Skyway, Sharn.

As an upscale shop it will have locked glass display cases, large display windows, marble floors and shelves, a back storage room, leather chairs, and all kinds of other neat upscale features. Since it is based in Skyway, the three story building (first 2 floors = shop; 3rd floor = our living quarters) literally rests upon the clouds and is generally considered an exclusive business to the rich.

The three owners, being our characters, adventure a lot and generally leave the shop in the hands of trusted underlings. We use the shop primarily as a base of operations, a living space, and as a place to sell our magical treasure at full price instead of D&D's suggested half price.

Please name our shop.

On teaching men to fish:
What I usually do is first, decide what you want the name to sound like--Celtic, germanic, arabic, whatever. Then just enter "(language) names" in Google and find a good naming website. Find one you like the sound of, then start twiddling it. Granted, this won't generate "Xlarbaxx", but I'm not a fan of "fantasy-sounding" names anyway.

Hi TRRW, or anyone else who has mad naming skills such as he,

I have a bunch of NPC pirates/relic hunters that need to be named:

1. the pirate airship
2. the captain, a red-head female human rogue/extreme explorer from the lhazaar pricipalities. She has a fiery temper, and the name I'm looking for is a human name with a pirate moniker
3. a first mate, a human male wielding an ancient greatsword. first name, and a moniker after it (i was thinking the dragging sword, but maybe something else would be better). it should invoke fear just by the name.
4. a human male barbarian from the demon wastes. something short, but powerful sounding
5. an artificer patron. a youngish blond human man with a buttload of money. He's of noble blood of house cannith
6. the artificer's 'pets': a stone golem, 2 iron defenders, a filcher, the flying homunculus (can't remember the name), the dedicated wright.

Now that sounds interesting... I'll give it a try!
1. Molly Harridan
2. Flame-sister Hannah
3. Raghal Dripping-sword
4. Prax
5. Terynon. Last name depends on his connection to the house--if he's dragonmarked, it's d'Cannith; if he's not but still of direct Cannith family blood, it's just Cannith. If he's of another noble house, ir'Clainne.
6. Golem: Breccia
Iron Defenders: Geri and Freki
Filcher: Wisp? Mote? This one seems to beg for an object-name.
Expeditious Messenger: Skerner
Dedicated Wright: Heffis

Also, if you have use for it, I think "Maybe Susan Bristol" would be a rather Pratchett-ish name for a less serious character. (Her parents couldn't settle on a name... her mom said "Well, maybe 'Susan'..." and it stuck.)

First, I'd like to start by saying that its good to be once again living in the present times. I felt like I was thrown back into the early 1980s with my severe lack of internet for the past 3 months or so. Also, it's good to be back on the Eberron Boards. I see a lot of familiar names, and a lot of new ones; both of which warms my heart.

The point of all this is that once, long ago, in this thread, I helped the nomenclaturely challenged come up with names for people, places, and magical mcguffins. Due to my extended absense from the 21st century, the thread has faultered and died.

Now, I return to try to restart the great name machine. I offer my services to those in need of names for characters, items, towns, dungeons, ninja clans, demons, or pretty much anything D&D / Eberron / Roleplaying Game related.

(Note: I might not be able to check this thread every day, but it will probably be at least every other day; just thought I'd get that out now.)

I again apologize for my extended absense, but I hope to make it up to everyone. I leave it to the gathered peopleses on whether I start on the backlog of names, or just wait for new requests. I know some of the requests are over two months old, but we'll see what happens.

And I need a new Z one. That ones taken for livejournal. You don't think its odd in the slightest that a name he just made up has already been taken. Especially a name like "Zelinath"? Methinks he's using a name generator...
That, or he's pulling names from somewhere else. I just find it hard to believe that two people could both come up with a name like that at random.

In fact, googling it, there seem to be quite a few "Zelinath"s around.
That name definately came from somewhere else and he's just lifting it...

Wern't you the one who said Keith Baker named the city Sharn from a random 5 letters and not after the monster?
Edymnion

07-09-05, 01:14 AM
Wern't you the one who said Keith Baker named the city Sharn from a random 5 letters and not after the monster? It is exponentially harder to hit the same name by chance every letter that gets added.

And honestly, Sharn hasn't had it's own deviant art page for the past 2 years:
http://zelinath.deviantart.com/

Or given reviews of the food at Quiznos:
http://www.dfwmenu.com/reviews.asp?RestID=2086

It may be a coincidence, I just find it difficult to believe it was pure chance, however.

Although, Sharn is an anesthesia company:
http://www.sharn.com/

And a Vet service:
http://www.sharnvet.com/

So, who knows.
TheRedRobedWizard

07-09-05, 07:03 AM
Honestly, Edy, I might have subconsciously remembered Zelinath (or however I spelled it) from City of Towers. Who knows. Things of this nature are known to happen. I do have a list of "basic Elven name parts" in my brain somewhere, which does contain both "el" and "inath". The point is, I didn't consciously rip anyone off; at least I don't think I did.

I'll start work on the backlog tonight, we'll see how I get.

Also, a little heads up. For those of you who are attending GenCon Indy and are skeptical about my naming abilities, I will try to provide "on the spot" naming services. Just to show that I'm *not* using some random name generator. I know I'll be spending most of the day Friday at the WotC booth. A better description of myself and planned whereabouts will be provided at a later date.

and if you need a letter make it "L"

thanks.

ok, i must point something out.

first, the only actual vote with the 'backlog vs. new names' was for the backlog.
second, we are completely flooding TRRW with requests, in addition to the backlog.

the obvious conclusion is for no more requests for a while until TRRW is ready for our requests.

so everyone shut up, he's not a naming machine.

unless of course, TRRW likes it this way, in which case i apologize.

That is fine. I really don't mind if I have to wait like a year for a response. I thought that would at least ask. I am in no rush.

Alrighty, on to business. I blame, well, life. Stupid life. Guess it beats the alternative, though.

I'm going to get to the requests made since my last post first, as those seem to be a bit more pressing.

Pretty good there. The Changeling going by "Sin" is a bit overdone, but maybe not in your neck of the woods. We've had three show up at some point or another in my area. :P

I would like to offer forth to the great Red Robed Wizard my humble request:

A female tiefling warrior1/rogue1. She is the leader of a misfit gang of Kenku thieves, but unbeknownst to her followers, she is just one tiefling in a network of crime that goes high above the streets of Sharn.

I hope to use this character in a session this Thursday the 28th. My intent is not to rush, just that if you get to this request after then, move on to someone else's request.

Thanks in advance.

If it can be done by Sunday (7/31)...

I'd love a couple of name suggestions for an ancient (40,000 years old) Qabalrin vampire.

If you haven't read the Ring of Storms article, the Qabalrin are an ancient sect of elves who worshipped the Shadow and lived on Xen'drik back when the giants ruled that continent.

The party I currently DM (not names I came up with):

Khalas Windrazor: Male Shifter Ranger (Wildhunt)
Jyn: Male Changeling Rogue
Anavakri: Female Kalashtar Psion / Telepath
Ciro Imaradi: Male Half-Elf Cleric (Silver Flame)
Sunder: Male-Personality Warforged Fighter
Natalia d'Cannith: Female Human Artificer

Some of My NPC's:

Kuroi d'Thuranni (Male Elf Rogue / Assassin)
Omari d'Thuranni (Female Elf Sorcerer)

The above are a brother & sister strike team.

Rafael of the Winding Way: Male Human Wizard / Cataclysm Mage.

A bumbling, naive, young Cataclysm Mage I made for comedy relief.

I like Rafael: One part Merlin, one part Linus Van Pelt (from the cartoon strip, Peanuts), and one part Inspector Clousseau.

In a book of famous sayings, his picture would be beside, "The road to oblivion is paved with good intentions."

He is a caring, likeable, genuine soul, but he has no grasp on just how potent his magic actually is... and he is accident prone...

Shael - Female Changeling Bard / Expert.

A "made to order" courtesan, as it were *ahem* & a contact of Jyn's.

Shael's "unique" services are in high demand in the Firelight district. Any interesting "pillow talk" usually reaches Jyn's ears within minutes, provided he's prowling around Sharn.

Cameron ir'Siddiq - Male Human Favored Soul

By day, a pampered Brelish noble. By night, he is "The Mouth that Screams," a Favored Soul prophet of the Cult of the Dragon Below.

Veskus the Sayer: Male Dreamsight Shifter Druid / Moonspeaker

The tribal elder who presides over Khalas's home village near Wolf's Paw. Veskus is patterned after my grandfather: his sage-advice is usually brutally honest.

Plato he ain't, but still a fountain of practical wisdom.

Redfang: Male Longtooth Shifter Barbarian.

Friendly rival of Khalas.

Komog Kan - Male Hobgoblin Monk

A Shaarat'khesh I haven't done anything with yet. Primarly made to playtest the Flensing Strike feat from the ECS. As per the feat, Komog dual-wields a pair of kama.

Grey'chre - Female Bugbear Fighter

A Daask "tribute collector." Usually accompanied by a pair of Gnoll rangers (whom I haven't named yet. :tantrum: )

Solon Kinvarrah - Male Elf Ranger.

Some guy I made up for an "on the road" adventure. A generic Valenar War Chief.

Greek first names & Gaelic last names combine very well sometimes.

Lelorinel Siannodel - Female Elf Cleric (Aerenal)

Another NPC I haven't done much with. I'll probably make her a friendly antagonist should the PC's ever find themselves in Aerenal.

I totally ripped this name off from constant Googling 'til I found a combination I liked. Her name sounds very melodic when it rolls off of the tongue, so I decided to give her a faint facial tattoo in the shape of a skull.

The tattoo does not take away from her beauty, but it is a nice, brutal contrast to the way her name sounds.

She's also completely shaved bald with the exception of a sable braid of platinum blonde hair that runs the length of her back. I really should use her soon, as she has a fetish-like potential that is uncanny.

I should ask DMAC to make a custom illio of her one of these days.

Kalasahshe (cal-uh-sah-shay) - Female Inspired (vessel) Psion / Seer

A villain I'm tinkering with. I sure wish that Keith would post some Inspired naming conventions. The girl that plays Anavakri in my campaign has a really good grasp on how the XPH psionics rules work.

Anavakri used a well-timed, augmented Mind Thrust to turn Sabre (from Forgotten Forge) into a catatonic paperweight. Sabre was pretty close to killing the party at the time, so she deserves a lot of credit for coming through in the clutch

I had my misgivings about the lack of magical firepower in the party, but now I have a renewed respect for psionics.

Kala is my attempt to become better acquainted with psionics & strategy.

Taraka: Naztharune Rakshasa

A spy for the Lords of Dust I develped for a friend's campaign. His name is taken from a demon-lord in Hindu mythology.

He serves a lesser Lord of Dust named Raktabija (an Ak'chazar Rakshasa) who's name is also taken from Hindu mythology. Roughly translated, Raktabija means "seed of blood."

Renamed NPC's:

Scalpel - (Male-Personality WF Rogue)
Neveah - (Female Razorclaw Shifter)
Jobal'jah - (Male Razorclaw Shifter)

These 3 are the WF and the 2 Shifters encountered in the sewers in the Forgotten Forge. I made the Shifters a matched pair instead of two males.

Upscale Magic Shoppe in Skyway, Sharn: The Syranian Skymage

(The irony of a neutral evil person with a shop named after the home of angels is just delicious.)

...have I shown you my character's bio? That name seems to be too much of a coincidence. Jorakane has had intentions of treveling to Syrania to himself become "the Syranian Skymage." Look below for the bio (which was written months before you named the shop).

Appearance: Jorakane, except for his magnificent clothes, is a short unassuming creature with a slightly hunched posture, large dull-black beak, smooth black feathers, and beady black eyes.

Clothing: Landou wears luxurious clothing such as courtier’s outfits made from fine silks. However, he prefers simple elegant designs, as they generally give him the more freedom of movement, rather than complicated and restricting suits.

Personality: Jorakane is very much a typical representative of his kind. He, like other Kenku, isn’t very sociable unless speaking up has the potential to benefit him in some way. Otherwise, he stays true to his friends and works hard to do good things for those he cares about. He happens to be very fond of animals in general, flying creatures in particular, and birds specifically. He often fantasizes about flying like a bird all the way up to the heavens to greet the mighty celestials in Syrania. For this very reason, he long ago apprenticed himself to a powerful transmuter in a far off war-torn land in hopes of making his impossible dream a reality some day.

Region of Origin: Jorakane grew up in Breland within the city of Sharn, traveling elsewhere only to train as a transmuter and to uncover lost artifacts in foreign lands. Due to his formal education within Sharn, Jorakane receives a +1 bonus on all Climb and Knowledge (The Planes) skill checks. However, he takes a -1 penalty to all Handle Animal and Knowledge (Geography) skill checks due to the cloistered nature of urban life. These modifiers are included in the above statistics.

History/Background: As a chick Landou grew up with the Nightswift, an organization of Kenku spies, amidst the high towers of Sharn. As a young adult, he left his eyrie to apprentice under a powerful transmuter with the hopes of gaining back what his ancestors had lost: flight. Soon after his initial studies began however, his mentor left to fight in the Last War never to return. The abandoned apprentice took up an avid adventuring career in order to gain more experience with his magical powers and, after many a harrowing adventure with his friends, he gained the ability to fly through his spellcasting. Now that he has achieved his first dream, he now works on a second—crossing the barrier between Sharn and Syrania.
___When not adventuring, he spends most of his time aiding members of the Nightswift, socializing with the upper class in Sharn, or tending to his upscale magic shop in Skyway (which doubles as his living quarters and is sometimes also used as a Nightswift meeting hall). Jorakane also has connections within the Boromar Clan, and is currently serving a probationary period before officially joining as a member of the organization. He does this solely to help his friend Shugo find his sister and to further the interests of the Nightswift. He doesn’t have any real loyalty for the Boromar Clan.

Character Hook: I can fly faster, harder, and longer than any other!

Hey there, phenomenal work so far. Red, both the quality of your work and the dedication you've shown are phenomenal. The sucking up done, I could use some help... :)

My particular needs today are (half-)orcish. Three character ideas have utterly stumped me on names.

1) A Barbarian/Scout from House Tharashk, bearing the Least Mark of Finding. His name could easily be more human-sounding than the other two, but I'm not sure.

2) A Druid. A member of House Tharashk by birth, he never exhibited a dragonmark. His mother was married into the house as a deal brokered by by her father, head of a large and fairly powerful orc clan. The boy spent a lot of time with his mother's people, and eventaully "went native," learning the beginnings of the Gatekeeper traditions from his great-aunt Jhaaka.

2a) Clan name for his mother's clan.

2b) His animal companion is a viper, with iridescent red and black scales, slightly reminiscent of a Gila monster. I think ignorant Khorks just call them "Shadow vipers." A name for this particular "little" fellow, and if one comes to you, the name for the species of snake.

3) A cleric of Kalok Shash, native to the Ghaash'kala. Personal and tribal/clan names.

Thanks in advance for the help, my fantasy naming lately has been a "dry hole."

Later on,
Ghorrin

Read the bio below and give Mr.X a unique name befitting his tragic character. He is a human cleric with the Life & Death domains who researches the science and philosphy of life and death almost as if it were a religion. :)

Thanks again Mr. Name Maker!

Appearance: Mr.X is dark in both appearance and mood. With his long dark hair, pale skin, chiseled features, and intense gaze, he has an air of power about him that few others can match. He would be considered handsome if only it weren’t for his scars, gaunt physique, greased hair, grim expression, and hooked nose.

Clothing: Mr.X prefers expensive black clothes designed by some of the finest tailors (the so-called Mourningwear worn by so many Cyran refugees). He disdains the typical robes common to spellcasters, realizing that such garments would only make him an obvious target to enemies. He also favors sets of clothing that allow him to easily hide material components and devices that may not be socially acceptable, such as humanoid finger bones, poison, and the like.

Personality: Mr.X was touched by Xoriat in his grief. Despite his intermittent madness, he is very cunning and keenly aware of his surroundings. He has become a masochist of sorts, scarring his arms with sharp instruments in order to keep his mind clear from thoughts of his lost past. It is only through the blurred redness of this pain that he can escape his own tormented thoughts of his children. Like the Children of Winter, be believes that death is a part of the natural order and that only the strong will survive the coming of the end of the current age. To this end, he seeks out violent jobs, both to make himself stronger and to further study the nature of life and death.

Region of Origin: Mr.X grew up in Eston, Cyre as a cleric of the Sovereign Host up until the Day of Mourning. Having lost everything, he now travels the world taking on the most violent jobs he can find.

History/Background: Mr.X and his young brother were visiting a sister church in Seaside, the City of Sails, when the dead gray mist appeared and engulfed the great port. With hundreds of others, the brothers huddled on the nearby docks only feet from the mist’s deadly touch. Fearful for the wellbeing of his friends, Mr.X’s brother ventured into the strange mist on the first day, only to collapse and die the moment he set foot upon the land. After seeing his brother fall, six burly sailors were forced to hold Mr.X back as the mist enveloped his brother’s corpse.

Survivors crazed with grief and desperate to see what happened to their kin, dared the mist on the second day…and were unharmed. The search of Seaside for survivors began. No bodies were found however, not even Mr.X’s younger brother. Worried for the rest of his family, Mr.X trekked across the blasted graveyard to his hometown of Eston. He found the remains of his old home, but found not but a nightmare that would torment him everlasting. His two young children had hidden themselves in a closet in fear. Their charred remains lay there still, the surrounding closet walls having protected them from the eldritch energies like so much parchment. The sight shattered Mr.X’s resolve and he had to be forcefully removed from the Mournlands. His wife was never found.

Like so many others that day, Mr.X’s life changed forever. He lost all faith in his church and fell into a deep depression which robbed him of his physical health. Mad with grief, Mr.X attempted to end his life by throwing himself bodily into the raging rocky river rapids of the Dagger River in Southern Breland. His body was broken, his blood washed the river red, and his will to live had long since shattered. Fate, however, simply refused to end his misery. A large grizzly bear wondered from the King’s Forest, dragged his body to safety, and licked his wounds clean as he rest upon the Eastern shore. His body was discovered by a pair of poachers who had been hunting illegally nearby. The strange bear that saved his life was put to death by the two poachers.

In the coming months after his attempted suicide, all that was left for his mutilated body was pain, an endless blur of throbbing agony and heartache. In the end, it was in this pain that he found clarity. On the first anniversary of the Day of Mourning he chose a new spiritual path, one he believed would grant him powers over life and death—the power, he hoped, to be with his family again.

Character Hook: “Where…where are you my beautiful children?” –Mr.X, moments before tripping over the bodies.

Wow you are the man!!

I was wondering if you could help me out. I need a name for a human male, 30ish who is a master blackmailer who has been blackmailing the upperclass of Sharn for the last 10 years. He lives on an Island 8 miles of the coast of Sharn on a mansion but frequently goes to Sharn for his "business".

Thanks in advance

Taros

Oh also, what about a gnome or human chef (level 9 expert chef)

Danke Sehr

Wow, you've caught up, didn't think it was ever possible.

How about these.

A male Kalashtar Psion (Egoist) who acts as a healer at times.

A female Elf Wizard/War Weaver bearing the mark of shadow but will not discuss anything about either Elven Dragonmarked House (Phiarlan and Thuranni).

A male Cyran Figher/Rogue/Dread Commando who just barely escaped the Day of Mourning and is tormented by feelings of guilt for those he left behind.

A Warforged Fighter, the one who alerted the Cyran above and helped him escape the Day of Mourning, who has discovered that he has some talent as an artificer. (so he is a Fighter/Artificer)

I keep a list of about 30 or so names for different races handy when I GM my game. I generally got them Cris Pounds Name Generator (http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~pound/#scripts) and Seventh Sanctum Generator (http://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php). In many cases I modified the names that game out to give it a more fantasy spin, some not. I intend to someday format it and post it to my site in case anyone finds it useful but for now am just pasting it here.

Some of these can be tongetwisters, what I basically did is generate a bunch of greek names then make a scritp to randomly join them with the Kalashtar name suffixes we know of from the book. I either just look down the list for one I can pronnounce or modify one to make it more pronnouncable, keeping in mind the end of the name has to stay intact. Stylistically I like that they are at least somewhat difficult to pronnounce.

I also need a name for his ship. The name should make it sound cooler than it really is.
Well, I don't know if it's a 'cool' name, but IMC there was a group of dreaded pirates... I decided to go with a Caribbean sort of feel and named the ship "Molly Harridan". (The figurehead was an angry woman with a distended, screaming mouth.) Your mileage may vary, of course, but I thought it was a nice break from the typical fantasy conventions--no offense, TRRW. :)

Alright TRRW, maybe you can help me out. Because I've located the greatest character portrait ever I'm afraid to make only one character who has it, in case he gets killed. So I'm making a identical triplets, each with a different class. This is what I've got so far:

-- Lucian (Half-elf Bard)
-- Adrian (Half-elf Fighter or Artificer, haven't decided yet)
-- Wednesday (Half-elf Rogue)
-- Parents: Silsaurion and Nina.

My predicament is in finding a good solid family name. They're Karrnathi. The two names I've been kicking around are Octithis and Aucleit (with a soft "c".) I want the name to sound cool with an ir' in front of it, should I be raised to the nobility. Please give me some alternate family names to ponder, and maybe suggest some names for additional family members--a couple sisters and an uncle maybe, all half-elves. Thanks.

And a name for his preffered human form (an old man who wanders the mountains, his existence thought to be an old wives tale because people have been reporting sightings of this man for centuries)

A Human Bard (male)-
3 Human Clerics of Heironeous (2 male, 1 female)-
A human female Cleric of Nerull-
A male Tiefling Spellsword bounty hunter-
The Half Orc leader of a band of thugs harrassing the town-
A female half-elf Summoner (TN Cleric/Thaumaturgist with the Creation and Summoner domains)-

These are all I can think of right now. I appreciate any help, and may ask for more later. Peace.

Thank you and I trust you all (especially you naming guru) are having a good day

Could I get three suggestions for an old, female gnome who is a professor at the Library of Korranberg in Zilargo? She is a wizard/loremaster. It is important that her name sound old. Also, if one suggestion could start with an "E" that would be cool.

Thanks!

I have a male Tuskar Ranger in a WarCraft campaign who fights with a net and trident as well as bolas and javelins. He is amazingly strong.

Here is the bio I have written up for him, but frankly, I want a better name than Al.

(A Tuskar looks like a an anthropomorphic humanoid walrus)

CHARACTER BACKGROUND

Appearance: Al is an extremely rotund humanoid with arms and legs as thick as tree trunks. His massive shoulders bear the head of a walrus complete with a pair of lengthy tusks. Despite his intimidating size, his deep brown eyes and fatty facial wrinkles give him the appearance of a knowledgeable old man more than a mighty monster.

Clothing: Al typically wears the traditional animal furs of his people when cold temperatures warrant. Otherwise, he wears explorer’s outfits specially sized to fit his massive girth. He is almost never seen without his tobacco jug or smoking pipe—without which he grows extremely cantankerous.

Personality: Al is an extraordinarily laid back individual who cares little for the rush of every day life or the massive events unfolding all around him. Like a true fisherman he prefers to take his time with things and is concerned only with the tasks at hand—as a result he exudes an almost palatable aura of comforting patience. Many people however, misconstrue these traits with laziness or apathy—a big point of consternation for Old Al.

He sees himself as a stalwart and honorable warrior and will readily prove it by stepping into a fight not his own (to his credit, he usually does so to protect an innocent). He also believes himself to be the physically strongest of his kind (a boast that may well be true) and is quick to remind those around him of that fact with constant challenges and contests of strength.

Old Al is akin to a kind old man in that he happens to be very wise and knowledgeable. Although he remains largely ignorant of major events around him, his simplistic wisdom and intuition allows him to continue leading an easy life.

History/Background: This Tuskar fisherman was one of eight who sailed from their homeland in search of better fishing locations to better feed their village. Sadly, he and his crew were dragged into a torrential hurricane in which only emerged in one piece (thanks in large part to his massive strength). The massive storm blew his small boat so far off the regular fishing lanes that he was completely unable to navigate his way back home. Without recourse, he sailed blindly for several weeks, using his skills as a fisherman to survive.

Eventually he was picked up by strange seafaring creatures unlike any he had ever seen. These strange creatures, calling themselves humans, were quickly identified as being fellow fishermen. Old Al, as the humans called the Tuskar, was brought onboard their ship and taken to their island. Since then, little has changed for Al. He adventures on occasion in order to learn about his new surroundings, but by and large, he continues doing what he did best in his old life—fishing.

Character Hook: Don’t think you can escape my nets. I’ve caught bigger fish than you before!

Okay, a few names for me, if you could...

Male Karrnathi Neutral necromancer, who's family was raised to get the ir' prefix during the Last War due to the contributions to Karrnath. Wizard/Cleric of the Blood of Vol, and eventually will go into True Necromancer from Libris Mortis. He dislikes the political asperations that he can see within the Blood of Vol, and is considering starting an offshoot cult that wouldn't interfere (as much) with the goings on of Karrnath, or at least fully support the King. Possible attempt to start the Blood of Kaius if he ever found out the king's true nature.
He has an arranged marrage with another noble house, but hasn't seen his fiance in years. There is a curse or something killing off his relatives that started a couple of years before The Mourning. His family used to be a very large land-owning family, sort of genteel landowners and farmers who fought fiercely in the last war for the King of Karrnath. About 50% of the family died in the war, and another 30% died from the curse. There are very few left, and in the course of the war the hereditary lands were burnt by forces from Cyre (mostly Valenar mercs), so there wasn't much pity when Cyre died.
His goals are to adventure and re-gain the status and prestige that his family used to have before the curse finished them off. (The poor souls, giving so much to the country, and then losing the rest to that horrible curse. Glad we're not them. Avoid them too, the curse might spread!) He wishes to restore the lands that his family had before, but it's now within the borders of another country (Probably Talenta). He also, above all, wishes to break the curse and punish with mighty vengance those who caused it. He basically cares for the community and doing what's right for the community (as is taught somewhat by the BoV), but if he ever had the chance to go after whoever caused the curse, there's a good chance he'd slip into Evil alightment, he'd be utterly ruthless.

Letter C.

Halfling Talenta Ranger with a clawfoot mount/animal companion. A very good hunter for his tribe.
Letter M.

Halfling Talenta Warrior with a Glidewing mount. Specializes in ranged and reach weapons.
Letter R.

Great names. I was hoping I could get some ideas as well.

My character was a former prisoner. He was released only to be used in the Duke's special squad of suicide troops, made up of criminals, bums, and anyone else he didn't like. Basically, their job was to die, without him risking his own men.

And die they did. Many of them fell over the months, to be replaced with others. My character learned to survive by being quicker than his opponent, but he had a number of close calls. One day the squad was sent against a large band of squaters who were actually refugees from a barbarian raid. There were too many, and he fell but did not die.

He was found by two nobles/knights and their men, and nursed to life for questioning. After some time travelling with them, he began to improve with his short sword, and eventually carried two.

Over the years and many travels across the world, he became a competent fighter with the twin short swords. He is tall and lanky, but musculor with wiry black hair that hangs infront of his face. He tries to keep it in a ponytail but it always looks messy. He wears a suit of dark plate and chain, and is known to be a deadly, but honorable fighter. He is a hero to the opressed, bullied, enslaved and subjugated.

I have no ideas yet for a name, and I'm having a hard time. He generally uses sabotage and subterfuge to help others, but is deadly when he attacks.

Rogue/Fighter - Human. No letters in mind yet. Maybe a C or K. Any ideas?

Hello oh great keeper of names!

I hope you could help me with a very special challenge: I seek a name for a NPC seer (plot device).

He is a tengu-blooded (human with a tengu from Oriental Adventurers as a long ago ancestor) which means he has black hair, the sound mimic ability and a long nose ;) He always wears a long black cloak covered with black feathers around the neck and his familiar is a raven, of course.

He is a mystery - noone knows where he comes from or what his goals are. The only things known are that he lives in one of the lower districts of Sharn, that he could often be met in a special tavern (I need a name for this one, too) and that he has an apprentice - a femal goblin called Jhala (maybe not a good goblin name but I like it).

If we played in english, I would simply call him the "raven seer" or "the raven" but the translation "Rabenseher"/"der Rabe" doesn't sound very well (and it would be a bit curious if he would speak of himself as the raven seer). I'd like something with M or K (or both one for the first and one for the last name).

In addition, I need two names for a changeling rogue from Aundair who likes dancing and changing (is going to take the chameleon PrC) - one true name and one he's using for adventuring.

Thanks in advance!

Also, for a Male halfling(Khorvaire, so non tribal) sniper(uses a great x-bow sized for a med creature, and will eventually be able to shoot someone from 3262 feet away, with no penalty(go cragtop archer).

My requests:

Thranish male human, foundling ward of the church, sorcerer/paladin/pyromancer, his surname is definitely "de Argenessos", and he has a penchant for archery.

Thranish female human, dispossessed noble who lost her ancestral lands to the Aundair early on in the War, two-weapon-fighting ranger, and decorated veteran of the Last War.

Special Request: I'd like the two thranes to have a spanish/portuguese flair to their names, please.

Cyran male elf, fought for Cyre for the entirety of the Last War, warlock/archer, and an air of mystery.

Zil male gnome, artificer, mad gadgeteer, and certified nutjob.

A clan of kobold sailors and their druid matron.

Thanks in advance

I really like your suggestion for the changelings real name. It's great!

But the name for the seer is not what I expected. Sorry, this was my fault. Yes, his race was inspired by the Tengus in Oriental Adventures, but I find (at least) some aspect of the asian cultures to strange to use them in my game, so an oriental name wouldn't really fit to him :-/

Hello Deity of Truenames,

Could you come up with a cool name for my Demon Wastes Barbarian. He has an intricate brand of the Binding Flame tattooed on his left upper arm. He used to reside in the Labyrinth although originally he was born a member of a tribe that worshipped the Rajah Lord of Blood. He has rejected the evil of the rajahs.

Feh, just move to Toronto, Ontario. It's close enough, we'll take you.

NOW FOR THE COMPLICATED AND SURELY IRRITATING NAME REQUEST:
Oh great Wizard in Scarlet, I seek the name of a samurai, a man who has wandered far from home. His lord is a great scholar, and often sends servants out to seek the artifacts and history of lost empires. One such artifact, a sword of great power, has brought this lord so many enemies that he has entrusted it to this samurai, whom he then sent out to travel far from home. The samurai wanders foreign lands, keeping the sword safe until he is sent for. The blade itself is not actually steel, but crystal of the hardest and most carefully tempered quality, and in our tongue the sword is known as the Glass-Pearl Elephant's Tusk.

Technical Description: I've got a human Psychic Weapon Master (needs a Japanese-ish name) sent far from home by his lord (another Japanese-ish name). The Glass-Pearl Elephant's Tusk needs three names in different languages.
First name: it's original name in the language of a now-dead empire (the language and culture is very much Indian and Thai in its inspiration, for an idea of what it sounds like). Has a good deal more syllables than you and I would consider practical in everyday speech.
Second name: the Japanese-ish name by which the samurai would officially refer to the sword in his homeland. Not as long as the original name but still quite big. Should resemble the first name somehow (see if you can't fit the phoneme Ranga in this one; I tried thinking these names up myself and those two syllables was all that came to mind).
Third name: the Japanese-ish shortened title for quick reference. Pretty much a smaller version of the second name.

Please and thank you very much!

My feeble attmept:

Psychic Weapon Master Isazen (E-sa-zen) (combination of Stone and meditate)
His lord: Lord Kenma (Iron Horse)

Ancient Sword's name: Athmansthogaba (Ath-man-stho-ga-ba)
Second Name: Amashogeba (A-ma-sho-ge-ba) A - glass, ma - crystal sho - elephant geba - tusk
Third Name: Yomigiba (yo-mee-gee-ba) or even Yomiba (yo-mee-ba) (When spoken it sounds like 'Hell's Fang (tooth)' But Yo is a different reading of the character for 'A' and Mi is a different reading of the character for 'ma'.

Can I have names for the following please:

A gestalt rogue/ranger/assassin Naztharune Rakshasa who's name can begin with either an

I need a name for a Chaotic Good, Male Human Battle Sorcerer from Cyre. Must be pronounceable, and not too modern-sounding. I'd like another name for the same character if he were from Breland (Haven't decided on his origin yet)

I also need a name for his Owl familiar (The last owl familiar I had was named Owly... I suck at names).

Nice little thread you have here. If it isn't too much to ask I need three names for an Eberron game I am dming.

Male Dwarf Barbarian, first letter R (current name is Magni Thurkrast which is in my oppinion a fine name for standard dnd but it loses something in Eberron).

Female Khorvair Elf Rogue/Fighter, first letter A.

Female Sharn born Spellscale Water Shugenja (Order of the Gentle Rain)/Sorcerer/Mystic Theurge, first letter M.

Oh well, back to work.

Myth Master Jr.

- Female Elf Ranger (Sharn): [No R, S, T, L, N, E] Cadami (Kah-dah-me), Dahoim (Dah-oh-eem), Avami (Ah-vah-me).

(When I first saw this challenge, I thought, "Why doesn't he want his character to include any of the consonants of Raistlin?". Then I got the Price is Right reference. Too early for pop-culture.)

-----

- Male Dwarf Barbarian: Ruric (Roo-rick) Bloodstained, Riadoc (Ree-ah-dock) Fiendkiller, Rodrin (Roh-dreen) Manyaxes. (The last names are kinda placeholders, or they can be used easily. Whatever works for you.)

- Female Khorvair Elf Rogue/Fighter: Avenitha Ollin (Ah-ven-ee-tha Oh-lin), Asanati Edrithas (Ah-sah-nah-tee Ed-re-thas).

- Female Sharn born Spellscale Water Shugenja (Order of the Gentle Rain)/Sorcerer/Mystic Theurge: Medridos (Med-re-doss), Magrodol (Mah-grow-doll), Milidreden (Mill-ee-dray-den).

(Not too well versed in Spellscale naming conventions, sorry. Did the best I could.)

Two male personality warforged that are disticntly differnt and are both gestalt artificer/fighter.

Thank you very kindly Wizard. For spellscale naming conventions just use the rules the race of origin uses (Half Elf in the case of the specific one I noted) or use a Draconic naming convention, just for future reference should anybody bring that race up again.

One human male

And if you feel like it, toss in a female half-elf lyrandar artificer. My current one constitutes a copyright violation.

Don't know if TRRW is still kicking around, but I've got a halfling rogue that needs a name...

He's an unmarked scion of a dragonmarked house (haven't decided which one yet) who worked as an "Aquisitions Specialist" but has decided he needs to go out and see the world. He must have a non- d' last name as he is travelling incognito. Is very cosmopolitan and hold little if any regard for his Talenta brethren.

Thanks in advance!

How about a male half-orc from the Shadow Marches. He's a 3rd generation half-orc (paternal grandfather was a half-orc everyone else was human -depending on who you ask genetics smiled on/hosed him). Our boy grew up in one of the largely human settlements but had plenty of contact with orcs.

First name starts with a D.

Don't know where to start with the family name.

I need a name for an inspired and their Quori.

letters and gender don't matter, but I would like the inspired's name to be exotic, but pronouncable (going to be nemisis in a campain I'm running - probably going to be aying it often).

11-20-06, 10:58 AM
It's not Eberron in this case, probably actually Greyhawk for the setting, but hopefully that won't make any real difference.

Male human warblade. He's going to be a mobile melee bruiser with a bit of stealth thrown in. The build I designed for him I've named "Stalking Panther", and I somewhat hope he manages to acquire that as a title of sorts. Hoping for a Conan-esque name, but in skimming through all my Conan books nothing caught my eye to use or adapt.

Got a list of names I might use or adapt, and building that further. Need to finalize it tomorrow, though.

Is TRRW still kicking around on the boards? If so, are you willing to generate some more names?
TheRedRobedWizard

Well, well, well. I figured this thread'd been totally destroyed by the board wipe last summer. Guess I was wrong. Beyond that, I haven't posted here on the WotC boards in who knows how long. I blame EN World for stealing most of my attention. Sorry kids.

Ok, back on track. I'll try to keep an eye on this thing here, and I'll try to post as much as I can.

Now, beins' though the last specific request was in November, I figure I'll start fresh.

Who needs some nameses?

05-04-07, 05:04 PM
Well, I'll get the ball rolling:

I have a level one Human Beguiler from the Halruaan region on Faerun. Specifically he is from the Nath region which faces frequent raids from Crinti and Were-gnomes. His family are breeders and herders of various animal types which they sell at market. They use some special mage-breeding techniques on a few of their choicest stock and train others to perform various other tasks (animals sold by the family include both warbeast and magebred templates as well as a wide variety of normal animals to be used as pets, oddities and herd animals for the slaughter).

He has just learned that he has the gift but unfortunately it is spontaneous (beguiler) so he will quickly move into Wizard at level two and eventually into Ultimate Magus to conceal his aptitude while still learning in private on his own. Eventually he will most likely take levels both in Archmage and Incantatar.

I initially came up with naming him after a long lost Netherese chronomancer named Jeriah with the family name of Gael but I would like to hear what TRRW could come up with as well.
TheRedRobedWizard

05-05-07, 05:58 PM
Male Human (Beguiler/Wizard/Ultimate Magus): Jariah Geal (Jar-ee-ah Geel), Vadalis Jeriah (Vah-dah-liss Jeh-rye-ah), Gabor Tsir (Gah'bor Seer).

I like the sound of Jeriah Gael, but it needed some spicing up (plus, Gael makes you sound like an old woman). Took some inspiration from Eberron on the second one. The last one is just something that sprang to mind at the last moment.

Lot of sources to get names or make them.

The old historical sourcebooks of D&D suggested names, and somes modern books do so - look by example when they offer races, they gives sample names.

There is also books of names, and such ressources - I can suggest you the Everchanging Book of Names, a free shareware with many 'books' addon for cultures and races offered. It's free to download at http://ebon.pyorre.net/.

Also, one fdorgotten ressource are videogames - somes have incorporated name makers in their codes, for npc or even pc. Like ogre Battle or Neverwinter Nights. You can try at Neverwinter Nights to make names at random and see what it offers. :)

2. male half-elf, midlevel warlock, NN – Lyrandar heir, also sinister member of Storm Front
3. name of a ruined fortress, now used as a temporary residence by a Valenar warclan

Evening all,

I've just started playing in a new Eberron game, and while I've no trouble naming my character, we're having a trouble naming the group :)

The idea is that we were all part of a small task force in the Breland army during the Last War - a special unit composed of talented but highly disposable individuals, who could be sent on "Black Op" missions with no-one complaining if they didn't come back. Post-war, the socially malajusted group remained together for lack of anywhere else to go, and took up as mercenaries. The game is set in Sharn and we've yet to develop a serious name for ourselves.

But as I say, we've no idea what would be a good & suitable name for such a bunch? Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks,
Morrigan

Oh great giver of NAMES, I do call thee forth and I do bind thee to do MY bidding.

Sorry couldn't help myself...:D

Redrobe,

Please Help.

Here's what I need.

Female Elven Gatekeeper Druid of the Reaches (5th Generation Elf) Give me Aerenal and Tairnadal Flavor. (separate if you would, I don't know what type of ancestry I am going to give the PC yet. Question, aren't the Valenar descended from the Tairnadal?) Also if an elven family were 5th generation elves in the Eldeen Reaches would there not be some Reacher influence in the name? Don't know, just asking. I would like your opinion. (PS: If you need a letter for the names use whichever you think works best for the coolest names.)

I need maybe 5 to 7 names for different towns, villages, cities, hamlets, and thorpe's near GreenHeart or the Gloaming, not currently listed or existing in the Eberron universe as we know it.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Sincerely,

Dawn of an Age

Hail great name givers, I seek names for figures destined to play important parts in my imminent campaign.

An Aurum Lord, a human, middle-aged, ruthless, noble born native of Thronehold who took advantage of Throneport's effective neutrality during the Last War to turn his family's dwindling coffers into an immense fortune.

A Lord of Dust. Not one of the imprisoned greater lords, but a free rakshasa general, at large and plotting to destabilise Khorvaire and increase his own power.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Usually, I will create a name either by taking a real foreign word based on the culture I am using, and twist it to sound name-y.

Sometimes, I look at the sample names that are given for races in Campaign Settings and look for conventions (Such as Two Elks, or Running Brook), or if there are none, then I look for phonological rules (Sound schemes).

Then I just throw them together, until I find something that I like.

This site (http://nine.frenchboys.net/gnome.php) is good for gnome name generation. What actor/charicter is your gnome artificer based upon?
Rekko

09-15-07, 08:11 AM
The gnome artificer will be a mix between blastificer and buffificer, he's the party's tool box, but never say it out loud or he'll point out to you that he's more like a weapon locker than a tool box, though he enjoys being handy to everyone. Of course, he'll be crafting items for the party (mainly melee characters) and a bit enjoy his place as one of the few magic user of the group. alignment: LN
