Ok, I don't think this has been brought up before, but I apologize in advance if it has. Ditto for if it's in the wrong place...I'm new here, so please bear with me.

The Campaign Setting book says that members of dragonmarked houses can add a d' to their surname- d'Medani, d'Orien, and so forth. What I'd like to know is whether this only applies to high-ranking members of the house, or if anyone with house blood can do it.

Members with dragonmarks have d', ones without dragonmarks just have the house name was their last name.

So if someone acquires a mark, they can take the d' name?

if you were for example named Jon Smith (lol) and you got a mark, then no... but if you were a member of a house Jon Cannith for example and you got a mark at level 3 as your feat for that level, then yeah you can become Jon d'Cannith... :D Plan to be in the house if you want to adopt the name... I guess... lol

if you have a mark and are not a member of the house beforehand, then I'd imagine that you would just be a non-member who carries a mark. ok you're Medani well... keep then base name until you possess a mark..
