ThanisKartaleon 10-26-04, 08:19 AM	Sneeze. Write down what you think the sneeze sounded like. Sneeze again. Append that. (For goblinoid characters I recommend loogies) Okay... Like the book says. Three to five syllables in length. Contains a prefix and a suffix. The suffix to your character's name is the name of his quori ancestral spirit. (It says there's just the 8, but there's actually 67 in total, so feel free to make up one). The name should be hissing, guttural, and hard sounding.
SpellMaster 10-26-04, 02:49 PM	Look at the Welsh language. Very gutteral, yet fluent and somewhat elegant. I am currently playing a Kalashtar Psion Shaper who's name is Creadigaeth, spoken with Welsh accents (taught to me by a friend). It means Create in Welsh, and fits my character perfectly. He goes by Creed to those who cannot speak his language. But yes, make a name that means something similar to your character concept, then create a suffix to add to the end of it. I'd suggest latin, welsh, or possibly german or russian for the concept-equivalent.

Flack Jack 10-26-04, 10:34 PM	Two thumbs up Lehatharat. By the way for future naming I recomend scrambling words and exchanging letters till they sound cool. Example Telekinis + other stuff = Litserol the Psion.

And Lehatharat sounds very cool. I'd suggest finding a nickname to go with your character, as exotic names are often forgotten by other party members. I'd suggest Hath, or make Thar, depending how you want to pronounce the name.

Listerol does sound alot like Listerine (a mouth wash brand), and Tugorauth sounds kinda like a Mongolian toothpaste. I could see Ghengis Khan using Tugorauth to clean the teeth of his beheaded victims. As for names, avoid latin it tends to create names that sound latin, while fun for most stuff can be hard to avoid. Fun word to rearrange can be stuff like palindrome, or enigma. Find a common english word (or you own native language) and then find a synonym, a long one. Rearrange to your hearts content. If you want some long, and vaguely pronouncable in English, I'd recommend German. A goodly number of German words are just really long descriptions of an object or location. The word of the German national police for for example is over 20 letters long! Lehatharat by the way is a super name, consider it yoinked. ;)
SahinTC 10-27-04, 06:50 PM	I always assumed that Kalashtar who have lived in the city have adopted first and possibly middle names for formal purposes (paperwork), and have had their names moved to their last names (so it sticks in any situation where a full name is needed). Thashil Kashar Shanidathyr <-- My Sharn-inhabiting kalashtar's name. Shanidathyr (Sha-ni-dah-thyr) being his actual given name as a kalashtar, and the other two he prefixated to it for the purpose of having a full name in all legal matters. As for how I derived his name? Honestly, I picked a bunch of random letters and strung them in together. :). I figured it would need a sound harding suffix for one of the 67 existing quori spirits, so I formed dathyr, and then played with my remaining letters. If nothing else works, pick 8-12 letters and have fun with them, adding or removing as you see fit.

These guys can be as hard to name as Warforged. Feh, the dreaded yoink. Just know that I'm naming my Kalashtar bounty hunter (see sig) Lehatharat. I would imagine that a Kalashtar immigrant might keep their name as either a first or last name, and then replace the other with a Khorvaian name. Exampled, Robert Hastalir, or maybe if they wanted to be named after their place of landing on Khorvaire, Hemnoterah Lhazaar.
