| Phaseroth09-23-05, 07:52 PM | I swear I read somewhere, either on this site or in one of the Eberron books, the "rules" for naming members of dragonmarked houses. Unfortunately, now I can't find where I read it. All I can remember is that a dragonmarked character gets the "d'" prefix in front of his/her last name. For example, Rurik d'Kundarak, the sample Heir of Siberys character from the ECS. So what about his non-marked wife, if he has one (or non-marked sister, for that matter)? Would she simply be Loda Kundarak? Or would she be Loda ir'Kundarak? I'm not sure whether or not all members of a dragonmarked house are considered nobles, so I don't know if the "ir" prefix would be out of place. Thanks. |
| Kid SixXx09-23-05, 07:59 PM | The suffix "ir" is only for noblemen (genetic or by appointment), so her last name would not be ir'Kundarak. The "d" only goes in front of your name if you are a blood member of a Dragonmarked house. If Loda were an outsider marrying a Dragonmarked member, I assume her last name would merely be "Kundarak," provided that she took her husband's last name. |

I guess most people just drop the other names when they get the d' or ir' status. I'd rather be ir'Wynarn or d'Sivis than some name nobody knows like Smith. |

See Nicolette d'Lyrandar EH p81 (But then again all the names in that book were screwy so I dunno). |
