Anyone got a favourite nation of Khorvaire (or maybe even beyond) that seems to claim your sympathies from the Last War, or is p'raps the nation you have a tendency to have as the PC's birthplace? Maybe this nation or area is the place your DM frequently places your party...
If so...reveal all here...
...to start the ball rolling, I start PCs off in the games I DM within Aundair and specifically the environs in and around Fairhaven...after all that lush countryside, the group's going to get a shock when they decide to venture to Sharn, and from there...yep...Xen'drik....

Over to you fine folks...

I have had a tendency to have my characters hail from Cyre. That gives me the ability to claim a lot of interesting things about their background that won't necessarily affect that much in the game. What does it matter if the character was the son of one of the high social status whatevers if the society doesn't exist anymore?

If the character was a warforged, giving him a Cyran origin can make it easier to explain why it is that he's one of a limited production run of experimental models. Cyre was known for relying heavily on warforged and would perforce have been trying out a whole bunch of different models and types.

As to the cause of the Mourning, different characters have had different ideas, but several of them know to the very core of their being that Aundair done it. ;)

IIRC Aundair didn't actually have an army within Cyre's borders on the Day of Mourning, and was well known for their expertise in matters arcane. So, given that Aundair arguably had the means, most definitely had the motivation (confirmed by Aurala's antics during the negotiations leading to the Treaty of Thronehold) and didn't directly lose a chunk of their military as a result, I could see more than a few Cyrans reaching that conclusion.

Thrane gets my national sympathies.....I mean how could it not with an eleven year old girl left in charge??? She even has a crazy pet that she plays fetch with..how sweet. Anyway........
With our fairly political campaign, Thrane has been an ideal choice for a base. One of my pcs is a paladin of the silver flame, so this helps keeps us connected to Thrane as well.
More alluring features of Thrane include its internal conflict between the theocracy and royalty. While the queen in Thrane adores Jaela, she has her own goals involving the best way to be a leader to her people. Also, Thrane has surrounding tension with Karnnath(bad, bad undead armies :D ), Aundair (which is slighted because of Thrane getting some of its land after the Last War :weep: ). Not to mention more tension I have added with the gnomes of Zilargo by the way of a well known and loved and highly respected Zilargo gnome diplomat being assassinated via poison during a Silver Flame function.
This Thrane theocracy is so much fun to insert intrigue, deception, kidnap, assassinations etc. into.....it keeps my pcs busy, and tired. They have gallavanted (spelling?) all across Khorvaire to right wrongs for the Silver Flame, only to have more dangers occuring right in their own Flamekeep community. :angelhide

So you could say Thrane is my 'baby'......and for now my definite favorite!!

I, for one, enjoy running adventures in Karrnath. While most of my PCs follow the inevitable Brelish/Cyran background (why not, when they get so much more coverage than the other nations) I enjoy the turmoil and combination of light and darkness within Karrnath.

A strong but slightly dated military tradition strikes a chord deep within me, and the idea of a strong, stalwart people tempered by loss and weather make for excellent. The Bone Knights make excellent NPCs, allies, and especially enemies, as they are an inherent contradiction; an honorable, mounted warrior commanding undead.

There are plenty of established warlords who have the resources and motivation to either employ the party, war with each other, or implement some doomsday scheme in the hope of accomplishing some nefarious goal.

For other purposes, there are the Corpse Collectors and their undead research labs that are about as shut down as Merrix d'Cannith's creation forge... the home bases of the Order of the Emerald Claw and the Blood of Vol... the prejudice against warforged... the mentality of the soldiers... all make for excellent adventures, plot points, and even little asides that add color to the region.

Here's a vote for the oldest nation on Khorvaire!

I agree with Temjinstrife, Karrnath is by far my favorite Nation. It allows for both undead hunting and undead helping campaigns. It also allows for Ravenloftesqe campaigns as well. And the Blood of Vol is full of wonderful condradictions. A religion that focuses on community AND undead? Not to mention they have a very big martyr complex. The Host is out to get us, the damned Flamers are out to get us... those wierd dream-people are out to get us, the Dark Six is out to get us... GAR!

The strong military tradition is also fun. I'd think that it would be hard to for a party to come in and keep a village under their thumb, since the entire population would have some martial training from their required military service.

Of the 5 Nations, I'd say I'd go with Breland.

I tend to play Bards, and with Brelands more cosmopolitican atmosphere, it fits better.

However, the Lhazzaer Principalities and Eldeen Reaches would be higher up on the list, if you included all nations.

I vote for Karrnath, too. Its got the most interesting setup of the nations, hands down.

I just started playing an Aundarian Warforged though, with ties to the Knights Arcane (part of the 314th Mithral Brigade... Silver Shield!), so we'll see how that goes

Whilst I like the climate of karnath, I tend to go for Cyrian characters. The fact that these people lost absolutely everything really hits a chord with me.
I mean, these people can never, ever go home, no matter what they do.
Can you imagine how lost they must feel?

Breland - Corrupt parliment strikes close to home :D

Overall? Lhazaar.

In a Brelish port:

"I'm a merchant from Lhazaar. Got these here bolts o'cloth & some gems to trade."

"Great! Uhh... wait, that brooch you're wearing..."

"What about it?"

"Nothing, just that there was a Captain I knew with the same style of brooch. Claimed it was original, no copies made."

"And you believed her?"

"No... but... hey, I never said that captain was a woman!"

*Looks at crew behind him*

"Weigh anchor! Now!"

From nameless sailor:

"Didn't this happen at the last port?"

For my characters I like Cyre/Mournlands the best. But for running adventures I prefer Breland because Sharn in the doorway to everywhere.

My Favorite is the Talenta plains, halflings riding dinosaurs is just too cool. though if i had to pick a nation Karrnath gets it. I just always thought it was a cool idea to summon undead to defend a city full of living people rather then besiege it.

I like Zilargo myself, although my favorite race happens to be dwarves so I keep on having to come up with ways to combine them. It really helps that Kundarak and Svis are on such good terms

Breland because of the Cheese who doesn’t like a nice round of Brie :)

But Really Every Nation Has something to draw you in to fight for or against
The only nation that does really tickle me is Aundair, I just get kind of a sleepy laid back feel from it. Seems like a nice place to live but I dont would want to adventure there :P

Well, uh, my campaign revolves around tasks from a retired gnome diplomat in Trolanport. So I guess Zilargo.

Let's see. My favorite character was from Aundair, my first DM experience with Eberron started in Aundair, and the group I am presently DMing for is on their way to Passage, so Aundair again. Guess I would say I prefer Aundair.

But my two favorite characters are from outside of that area. The first, a honor bound pirate captain gnoll from Droaam. The second is a loyalist necromancer from Karrnath who wants to learn to perform the ceremonies for raising Karrnathi undead. And he is Lawful Good. :)

Still, most every idea I have seems to revolve around Aundair, so maybe the Queen will get her wish one day and reunite Galifar under her rule.

Darguun. Why? Because the idea of a goblin civilisation intrigues me.
As for the other states, I'd say Karrnath and the Reaches. I'm partial to forests, I guess. Sharn is nice, but Breland would be to warm for my taste.
