| KashGarinn02-23-06, 09:30 AM | Greetings. I'm creating a character for a roleplay session in the eberron campaign setting, and I'm in a bit of a fix. I'm creating a halfling druid from the talenta plains.. a 2nd lvl druid, who has a bond to nature, and delights in it's beauty as well as its aberrants. I'm still developing his mindset, but I was thinking that his first reaction to any violence is to get to a safe/hidden place where he can bond with the nature around him to combat the opposing danger and/or summon natures' allies, and later come out in a hard-to-hit forms, something even smaller than a halfling for instance, a bird or a fly (later on) to heal friends while in combat. Only when trapped should he wildshape into something which can serve as a tank and deal damage in close-combat. So avoid close and personal danger until absolutely necessary, then open the fruitbasket of whoopass.. what do you think? But I was wondering what limits should there be on creatures available to being summoned by natures ally? Should I go for a knowledge nature check? Should the local environment I'm fighting in be a factor (only summon polar bears when in winter-like weather)? or should I keep it local to the talente plains and regions around it? What's the benefit of being attached to a house? was wondering about perhaps mark of healing.. Any help or comments from experienced druids or experienced eberronians appreciated.. K. |
| Fabian02-23-06, 09:48 AM | Hey K, I have a 4th level halfling druid in my PBEM, and we came up with the following lists for Summon Nature's Ally spells. Summon animals: 1st level: eagle, coyote, badger, owl, hawk, snake (small viper), wolf , fastieth, and dire rat 2nd level: black bear, dire badger, dire bat, snake (medium viper), wolverine, clawfoot, and glidewing. I hope this helps. L8r, |

Using appropriate dinosaurs for the level of the spell as the creatures called by summon nature's ally (or summon monster, for that matter) on the Plains makes the most sense to me. 4. House Jorasco is not really welcome among the halflings of the Talenta Plains; however, House Ghallanda (the Mark of Hospitality) is. |

Btw, what's a good way to organise the creatures and critters for when you need their stats in combat (or other checks)? I'd like to reduce the number of A4 papers I have with me below a dozen if at all possible :p K. |

The halflings of House Jorasco are "civilized" halflings who live side-by-side with the other urban races of the Five Nations and beyond. This is also true of House Ghallanda, but they maintain a much stronger connection to their roots on the Talenta Plains, even maintaining and overseeing the only permanent settlement on the plains, Gatherhold. This isn't to say that there aren't halflings with the Mark of Healing among the Talenta halflings, it's just that they are most likely foundlings whose blood connection to Jorasco is several generations in the past. From a choice of feats standpoint, I'd be more inclined to take one of the "dinosaur" feats or a "boomerang" feats from RoE, a "Talenta" feat (from PGtE), the Track or Self-Sufficient feat, or a druid-specific feat rather than the Least Mark of Healing feat (especially when druids already are pretty good at healing). The bottom line: there's just a lot of feats that only Talenta halflings can take, so I'd be more inclined to stick with them. Edit: however, from a story standpoint, if you see your character as one who has to deal with the stigma/challenges of manifesting the more unpopular halfling dragonmark, go for it and have fun! |
