| thodin11-08-04, 05:18 PM | We have been playing Eberron for three weeks now, and my DM will not be around this weekend. I am to run a side quest off of the Core Shadow of the Last War Quest, any suggestions of what to do using the new setting races and environment. I am just new to this realm and am looking for some suggestions you out there may have allready used. |
| Raffadus11-09-04, 01:13 AM | If you are only Dming for one session then you need to make your adventure short and not dealing with the main story line your other DM has going. So make it seem rather random and make it something that can be resolved in one game session. Hmm let me think. If your are done with the shadows of the last war adventure then you should be back in Sharn. Have them be caught up in a gang war. As they are walking down a side street they notice that no one else is on the street with them even though it is still peak hours. Just as they are about to ask what is going on have bow men start shooting at eachother from the windows on adajacent houses, then have combants emerge from the buildings that are around the party. The combants engage eachother and the party. Make sure the part is immediatly caught up in the thick of it and is impossible for them to leave. Also everytime they kill a combant have another one attack that party member. During the fight have the pc's kill a combant with a nice very vaulable looking piece of equipment, maybe a sword or an amulet. The pc's will want to take it with them as they fight their way through. What the pc's dont know is that the item is what the gangs are really fighting over and now that they have it both gangs will be hunting them down to get it back,at least until the party loses the item, or kills both gang leaders. There you go I am sure you can take it from there. Make sure the item is valuable and something that the pc's will be loathed to relinquish. |

| ThanisKartaleon11-09-04, 04:59 AM | [warning: psionics included, and throws a fairly high level challenge at the party] The party is walking through the streets of Middle Dura (the Marketplace) when an old woman at a seemingly empty stall gets the attention of one of the PCs. It seems this crone is a dealer in mystic arts and fortune telling. This should intrigue one of the PCs (or all of them) enough to shill a few coins (cheap, like a couple sovereigns). You can make this scene even better if you use a loaded tarot deck or some other "destiny prognostication device" that you can manipulate. If you don't have a deck, you can always google one and print out the applicable cards. Anyway, she fortells some stuff, seems normal and alright, except for the last card. (I'm using tarot as an example) As she turns it over, a sudden gust of wind blows it off of the table and to the ground behind the party. When they look they see: the Ten of Swords. This card predicts ruin, desolation, and disruption for the whole group. They hear the old woman gasp and say, "Beware." But when they turn to look at her, she is gone and there is no evidence of her being there save the tarot deck. Bad luck befalls the party at this point, until they figure things out. Stray cats almost trip them, it seems to rain harder on just them, sky coaches are too full to stop, things fall from higher in the towers and nearly strike them.... If a party member looks through the cards (if they left it at the stall, or throw it away even, it'll be there if they check again), something very strange will happen. All of the cards are the Tower. How is this happening? The deck does not radiate magic. The truth? It is a psionic item. (In my games, I use magic-psionic transparency, but detect magic does not detect psionics, and vice versa). If they examine the card closer, they see that the tower depicted is a broken glass one. A few gather information checks should reveal that it is a perfect depiction of the Glass Tower which fell some 80 years ago. (Oh, and this adventure seed would work well in conjunction with the Fallen Angel adventure in Dungeon 117) The journey to the Glass Tower takes them through the less savory parts of town. Insert your urban barbarians, ghosts, mongrelfolk, and anything else you want here. When they finally stand in front of the remains of the tower, the tarot deck acts up again, sliding a card out and floating it in front of the characters: the Hermit. After the card has been viewed, it drops. The characters who were looking at the card have their heads tilted in a way as to see a light in the lower-now-upper reaches of the tower. (the tower is completely upside-down, which means that there's a good foot or two lip for each door, and instead of stairs there are stone ramps. Also there is broken remains of furniture and such on the new "floor", save for what was connected to the "ceiling.") The party makes its way to the mysterious light, and when they finally kick down the wedged door, they see... a skeleton in rags trapped beneath a huge pile or rubble. There's probably some other stuff in this room, as well as a lot of broken glass (as throughout the whole tower, it wasn't called the Glass Tower for nothing). At this point, if anyone attempts to detect evil, the skeleton does radiate strong evil. Otherwise, assuming the party unearths the remains, they can make an Intelligence check (say DC 15). If they pass, they realize that the rags this skeleton is draped in look very familiar. If they pass by 5 or more, they realize that the old woman who sold them the deck wore the exact same garments (only less ruined). Once the skeleton is fully removed, it animates. This is Khavakri, a kalashtar telepath who became a psionic lich moments before the tower fell (though she is sure she was not the cause of the fall) [Female kalashtar psionic-lich psion(telepath)12]. Now, depending on your party's level, Khavakri may be wounded, and her body may be impaired. (to make a psionic lich, just change all the lich stuff from magic to psionic) Khavakri thanks the party for at last freeing her from her long imprisonment. However, she cannot let them live, because she does not want others to know of her existance. She tells them that she has a gift for them, before attempting to manifest crisis of breath on them. Now, lacking a Constitution score, Khavakri will find it harder to gain psionic focus, and she has used a lot of her power point reserve (depending on the party's level, again) to get them to come free her. This should be a hard battle that will have the PCs using lots of action points. The room is large, but half covered in rubble. There're plenty of broken tables and such to duck behind, and there should be at least one broken window. Also, as Khavakri did not have very long to enjoy her lichdom, her phylactery is in this room. It is her psicrystal, which is hidden among the glass shards. If threatened, the crystal will sprout legs and scuttle toward its mistress. After the fight is over, assuming the party was not wasted, they can dig through the rest of the rubble to find whatever other goodies you wish to bestow upon them. Well, that's the idea, have fun! |
