need adventuring group name [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-21-06, 08:55 PM My group is looking for a name for itself. We have:

Valenar Elf Ranger/Barbarian/Fighter/Revenant Blade/going for Dervish
Drow Scout
Aerenal Elf Cleric (Undying Court)
Warforged Warmage
Human Paladin (Silver Flame)
Half-giant Psychic Warrior/Fighter

Right now we are using The Ultimates, but that is lame. We are looking for a cool name. Suggestions?

06-22-06, 09:33 AM In the games that I've played in we've always called ourselves by some major event that we took part in or some signifying magic item the party carried, or some location that the party was from. For Example: The Company of the [magic item x], The Host of [location y].

Those always made for interesting or unique group names.

You have a lot of elf blood in the party so I used the elven one to translate The Ultimate into Si Lalostari

Since you have a psionic fellow I also used the Quor one for The Powerful and got Tha Kevalathir.

Feel free to use the actual word the. Otherwise poeple around town will redundantly throw "the" before it.

Perhaps the most realistic way to generate a name would be from their deeds.

06-24-06, 08:53 PM Kindles company, thats the name of my party, we travel with a gnome named Patrick kindle and he is the face and "leader" of our group. he is an npc so it doesnt lokk bias toward anyone
maybe just do what we did with the npc and use his last name

06-25-06, 01:01 AM Go for the backwards route, think of a cool acronym and make words out of it. It works in video games and comics, why not D&D?

For instance, some that I've used in the past.

(Arcana Evolved group): SPQR - Serathis Prospecting, Questing, and Reclaimation.
(Eberron group): SOLDIER - Sharn Office [for the] Looting [of] Delves, Intombments, Ensepulcherments, [and] Reliquaries.
(Star Wars group [Anti-Rebellion Mercenaries]): ORDER - Onderonian Republic, Department [of] Executing Rebels
(d20 Modern group): KATIE - Kithain And That Idiotic Entourage {Only the group's Smart hero used that acronym. The non-Kithain members of the party weren't too keen on it.}
(Forgotten Realms group): IDEA Co.- Icewind Dale Extreme Adventuring Company {Yeah, it was lame, but it was also back when things were simpler.}

Speaking seriously now. Look at companies from the past, like the English East India Company. The official name of the company was not as vulgar as 'English East India Company,' no, the real name was 'The Company of Merchants of London Trading into the East Indies.'

So I'd name your party along those lines, like: 'The Company of Adventurers from the City of XXX, Exploring/Saving/Trading/Venturing in/Around/Near/Vicinal XXX'. A full example would be 'The company of Adventurers from the City of Lessyk Venturing Near Whitecliff'. Personally I find this manner of naming to be much more in keeping with the relative era of the world. Also don't forget that you should have a shorter name that the common man refers to you as. OHH don't forget a catch phrase! ^_^ :D
