Need assistance convincing a DM that Tome of Battle fits Eberron [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-24-06, 05:12 PM Alright, a DM is starting an Eberron game soon and I recently bought the Tome of Battle. Jade Phoenix Mage is just about the coolest thing I've ever seen in a D&D book. I had an awesome image of a Warforged Warblade/Wizard/Jade Phoenix Mage named Viridian, and I know that I have to play it.

The problem is that the DM said "the Book of Nine Swords will be an option later on, but at this point it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Could be a character’s personal quest to find a master to teach them a particular discipline, but they are few and far between (may take a while)."

Tome of Battle characters are like alot of other classes, if they are entered into after 4th or so level they aren't worth taking.

I had some ideas for a background for Viridian but I need to convince the DM that Tome of Battle DOES fit into Eberron. So I'm looking for some help.

08-24-06, 05:17 PM Well, it sounds like he's made his decision.

It isn't always a resistance to the book, it's often a resistance to simply too many books. Creating a world is overwhelming. He's likely just trying to absorb all the Eberron stuff and just doesn't have time to decide on the Tomb of Battle.

Start Wizard and ask him to make Warblade available to you during the campaign.

08-24-06, 05:21 PM You have a point, I could start with Wizard and hope it comes along soon, but I think with some good background he might be convinced.

08-24-06, 05:24 PM Well, from your quote, he sounds like a very reasonable man who has thought this one through to some extent. It almost sounds like if you don't press he'll make it part of the storyline, and those sort of things usually work out if you can handle the anticipation.

Basically, impatience may cost you more than you think.

08-24-06, 09:35 PM There's nothing wrong, flavorwise or mechanically with going into JPM as a Wizard 5/Warblade 1, you'd just be a bit more casting focused than combat. That gives you ample time to find your trainer, or whatever, while not being gimped. Also, have you considered going into JPM as a Duskblade/Warblade?

Makes sense to me.. Wouldn't most masters be likely to have died during the Last War?
