Well, my group recently split up after half of us left to separate Universities, and the other half had to stay in High School, so I've found a new group who is interested in Eberron. I got pinned with being the DM.

The party is turning out like this:

Aaron, Brelish Halfling Monk 1
Lorall D'Sivis, Thranish(Formerly of Breland) Gnome Rogue 1
???? Valenar Elf Wu Jen 1
Zil Gnome Artificer 1
Karhsk D'Tharask Brelish Half-Orc Swashbuckler 1
???? Thrane Human Favored Soul 1

Fairly big party, but I don't have time to run two sessions, and I'm the only one who has any passion for DMing.

Anyways, most of the group has played in Eberron before, and have played through the Forgotten Forge, so running it now would be kind of redundant, so I'm attempting to make an original adventure.

Why am I posting this here? Because this is my first time DMing in front of an entirely new group, two of whom are new to the setting, so I want to make a big impact, and one that will show the two new guys why Eberron rocks so much.

So it needs to emphasize a lot of what Eberron is. Action, Intrigue, Pulp, as well as the newer mechanics that Eberron has to offer, specifically Action Points and any others I can't remember right now.

For the most part, the party has fought alongside one another during the last war, and the other two were met during the time between the end of the War and the present. Party cohesion shouldn't be much of an issue...for now. The Favored Soul and Lorall want to join the Argentum, so that may cause a schism of sorts in the party.

Anyways, I had an idea when I started creating this thread, then I realized that it wouldn't really work.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a 1st level adventure in Wroat?

Wroat? Get an early murder mystery going on with House Medani (that's where they're based after all). Turn that into a conspiracy involving the DD, Chamber, Lords of Dust, or other creepy organization of your choice and you've got a decent plot going, with opportunities to insert pulp action in many places.

BTW, how did that background with the Valenar Wu Jen turn out? I'm interested.

I can't think of one within Wroat just now, but if travel sounds good to you, remember that Wroat is the home of Breland's governance. Have a special surprise gift for Queen Aurala that needs covert delivery to the Brelish ambassador to Aundair. Plenty of room for surprise encounters on the way.

Random bandits, suspicious Aundairan guards and maybe a Karrn intercept group trying to find out what the present is so they won't be upstaged.

How does a Indiana Jones or James Bond movie start out? Right in the middle of the action. You could have them start in the middle of action sequence and then fill in the details as the mooks scatter.

The old d6 Star Wars game used to use "scripts" that did the same thing, but upped the stakes by providing written dialouge that players would read out loud and do the exposition of the crew got in the mess in the first place. e.g. ...

The mission starts with the party's rebellion members hiding behind boxes and taking fire from storm troopers. The air is cool from the height of the giant vine bridge that stages the shootout. A winged lizard flies high above.

Generic Rebel 1: "Now we'll never get those medical supplies to the secret base in time."
Smugger: "Don't blame me. We were making good time until romeo here had to romance that green princess back at the village."
Generic Rebel 2: "I wasn't romancing her. How was I supposed to know accepting a flower and meal from her was tantamout to saying 'I do?!?'"
Veteran: "Well you can explain it all to them soon. It seems they're coming up our only escape route and their armed!"
.......

You can see easy it would be to put in some Eberron villians on the other side of the bridge and go to town. ... Oh, an actual adventure? I think if you just start out like that and have them do a simple courier mission, you have a fun night.

Well, the player is currently working on it, so I'll have to get back to you on that tomorrow. The Wu Jenn does fit a bit though, IIRC, at first level it gets a guardian spirit, which could easily represent the spirit of the Valenar's ancestor.

Thanks for the other suggestions. For the adventure type, I was thinking more along the lines of an urban adventure, where the players had to track down someone.

A lot like the COT novel, but with some sort of dark twist. Definately a lower level though, as I don't think my party could take on what the novels characters did.

A Courier mission could work I guess. I'm not entirely sure how that would play out though.
