It seems that one of my players might not be able to make it for the first session of my game tomorow night. Does anyone have any ideas for an intro adventure set in Sharn for the meeting between a Valenar Elven Ranger and a Warforged Wizard that would be good for a one night deal.

Any help would be great. Thanks a bunch.

Well, start them off as planned, just the two of them.
Then, they can meet up with the latecomer half-way in. They've got the same goal as the rest, or the party's employer sent him in as reinforcements, or the new guy is locked in a cell somewhere for trying to break in and he got caught...

Working somebody into the story isn't really that hard, especially not if its just the second session.

Have them both visit the same tavern (no, really, its not as cliche as it sounds!), at a rather quiet time of the day. Suddenly, have one of the patrons throw off his disguise, wave his hands, and blast the bartender wth a couple of magic missiles, shouting "No one escapes the Shadow's grasp!". His companions pull out wands and start hitting sections of the tavern with sleep spells while the first one searches the barkeep for whatever they killed him for.

Obviously, it won't be long before the bar is empty of wakeful patrons, other than the conspirators and the two people immune to sleep spells: the PCs.

You can have the crime be for whatever reason you wish. I like the idea of a small cult of the Shadow, making the wand-weilders magewrights and the ringleader an actual wizard. But you know your player's capabilities better than I do. Maybe it is a small group, or maybe it ties into some of Sharn's darker elements. Up to you how far it goes.

Thanks. I like that and can work with it. It will allow me to pull in some oher stuff that I have planned a little later.

Nice touch, Gurv! It takes an often-overlooked trait shared by both the characters and creates a nice hook and some player options: play "asleep", take on the well-armed foes, flee...? Once one of them acts, the other is likely to follow suit, and right there, a relationship is formed in the midst of a stressful situation.

Just had to give some props to a great suggestion. Have fun tomorrow, shadowpavement!

Here is an idea . . . . .

The player literally falls (thrown) off a tower and is caught by a Featherfall Spell, cast by one of the PC wizards, or from a Featherfall Ward on one of the bridges the PC’s are crossing.

The player either jumped or was pushed off one of the towers by either a prankster or the local thieves guild. Allow the player to come up with a reason he fell ¼ a mile from one of the towers. Maybe he fell (thrown out) from Skyway?

The player might be thankful someone was someone there to help him out, or he might know one of the PC’s.

Thanks chummer.

As it turns out if I end up having to use this it might actually work out better overall since I'll end up running my original intro adventure later with two other PC's who won't be there, One of whom is Favored In House of Denieth and will be anonoumously hired to guard the Elf without the elf knowing. This will put a nice dynamic between equal halves of the group instead of 3 against one.
