Greetings

In about 2 hours, I will be running the Shadows of the Last War for my party. Im still a relatively new DM however and was if you all could help me scale the module up. My party consists of 5 players, all level 5 (im taking over from another DM to give him a break :-) ) I want it to be a challenging and somewhat difficult adventure for them. They went through the Forgotten forge module when they where level 1 and have gone on several other home made adventures after that.

I would really appreciate any help you all could give, sorry for the short notice :embarrass

Also, any advise for running this module would be very helpful :-) I want my players to have fun.

Thanks in advance,

Um...Do you mean Shadows of the Last War or Whispers of the Vampire's Blade?

In either case, 2 hours is 1/1000000 of the time you need to properly scale the adventure. But here's how I usually do it...

1. Take the group, add up all their levels, and divide by 4. 5x5 = 25. 25/4 = 5.25
2. See what the adventure asks for the same way. Shadows ask for 4 Lev 2, if I am not mistaken, so that score would be 2.

Find out how much experience would be gained throughout the adventure, and do this...

2/XP Gained = 5.25/New XP Gained (Algrebra is your friend.)

And then adjust the CRs of the challanges in the adventure to fit this new requirement.

2. Do the same with treasure. Level 2 needs to have already have about 900 each by the time they reached this... so that score is 4x900 = 3600.
Find out how much treasure your group has, and how much it's supposed to have. (DMG's entry on Treasure has a sidenote about how much you're supposed to have)

For the adventure, increase treasure rewards throughout the adventure (or even in one specific area) so that they each will have as much treasure as a 5th level character is supposed to have when they level up.

3. Realize that this is mad and that something should have been prepared sooner... :(

Greetings,

Thanks for your help, sounds like good advice.

I realize I should have started this sooner, but real life tends to get in the way.

I did indeed mean shadows of the last war. I want my party to go through the entire series.
