Hello all,
I need help for a player of mine. The set up is like this: the party of 4 is a Druid, Ranger, Fighter and Artificer. Both Druid and Ranger are Warden of the Wood and the fighter is really a much more outdoor person, the Gnome Artificer is much more city.
Well, many of the adventures have been happening outdoors or with a lot of Druid/nature stuff and now the Artificer wants to take a level of something to help show how much she has been working with nature. She was thinking a level of Druid, going Gatekeepers because she help them with repairing some dimensional seals. I just don't want her to "waist" an entire level just to feel more at home with the group.
We have talked about a prestige class but I can't think of one that would fit the bill. I was wondering if anyone out there might have any suggestions of what to do.
Thank in advance.

I am a fan of story awards, so sometimes I'll tweak rules as rewards. I've been known to award people misc bonuses to skills after in game events and other things.

You want to make the artificer something mechanically that wont adversely effect the build? Give them a discount on any magic item created based off the druid or ranger spell list, scrolls and wands of course but any magical item that uses a druid or ranger spell as a prerequisite. Give them something like a 5-10% discount on the XP and GP costs (I'd go with 5% myself) as they've made some sort of breakthrough understanding of how natural magic works.

Or you could do something with their gnome heritage. Remember they have the Speak with Animals as a spell like ability. Give them a situation where talking to a burrowing mammal would be a good thing... some extremely helpful information. This will let the Gnome have a nice "Whose one with nature now, huh!?" momment.

I agree with Nived try steering away from a class change. Almost any character can change the feel of their character through roleplaying. An artificer can make themselves at home in almost any situation by the kinds of infusions they use and magic items they create.
