If you are playing this adventure, respect your DM and do not read any further. You have been warned. . . . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Okay. Here's my problem. I've been reading through the adventure at the end of the book, and I like it, but there seems to be a major flaw in it unless I'm overlooking something, and if I am, I encourage any of you to point it out to me. it has to do with the final messengers that the warforged carry. Now for the tension of the adventure to continue, each of the first two warforged encounters need to be able to release their final messengers, to get word to the next one. The final messengers are of course very small and hard to kill for a low-level party considering their AC. That's all fine. Here's where the problem comes in. 1) According to p. 269, the final messenger activates automatically "should a warforged be destroyed while bearing a final messenger" 2) According to p. 268, "embedded or attached components can be removed from a disabled warforged." 3) According to page 23, a warforged is disabled when below 0 hit points and above -10 hit points, but destroyed only when it reaches -10 hit points or lower. So what this adds up to, as far as I can see, is that once you disable the warforged, any party member can quite easily just remove the final messenger from the warforged and prevent it from going anywhere and causing further danger later in the adventure. Of course, if they destroy the warforged, they won't have a choice, but level 1-2 adventurers are highly likely to be able to disable the warforged without dealing enough damage in a single hit to destroy it completely. What are the thoughts of others on this? |

| Stouthammer06-29-04, 06:04 PM | oops. thanks White Sorcerer. I missed that. My appreciation. Shouldn't it be like that for all Final Messengers though? Or at least let the Warforged decide whether it should take off when it's disabled or when it's destroyed (before it happens of course). Does the information on p. 269 deserve errata? |
