| polt10-12-05, 08:36 AM | I'd like you guys to check this (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=7478675#post7478675) thread out. I made this with Eberron in mind, so please I need as much feedback as I can get :) Feel free to post there, or here. |
| Streamweaver10-12-05, 10:11 AM | Made that by yourself? Didn't base it on any other d20 combat system out there? |
| polt10-12-05, 10:14 AM | It's in the first line of the post :D It's converted from the True20 system. |
| Streamweaver10-12-05, 10:22 AM | It's in the first line of the post :D It's converted from the True20 system. Yea, just pointing out that disclaimer didn't follow over into this thread. Also I'm sorry but I don't see this as a conversion so much as almost summation of the true d20 rules. It's not a personal stab at you but those guys have done some very interesting work with True d20 and especially with the Blue Rose implementation and I hate to see authors works basically reprinted and called conversions. You could have just asked if someone were using the True d20 combat system for Ebberon. That aside, yea the True d20 combat system is very interesting and has a lot of potential for use with Eberron. I was debating going with a WP/VP system or the True D20 system for this new Eberron campaign of mine. In the end I didn't however since I just got my players, some of whom are fairly new to DnD, used to the system and switching would have been much more interesting to me than it would have been for them. I thought it may have been particularly confusing for some of my less rules minded players if we had to get into some conversion on the fly conversations, so I just went with standard 3.5. |

You could have just asked if someone were using the True d20 combat system for Ebberon. I only used conversion in lack of a better word. I haven't created anything, I know that. But True20 is Open Game, so it's all good in the hood, and I'm not trying to take away anything from the guys at Green Ronin. The Damage Save system first showed up in M&M IIRC. Fact is, you can't use the system in D&D without some adapting, and that's what I'm doing. I think this system is far superior to Hit Points, and I just want to get it to work as good as possible. |
| polt10-12-05, 10:30 AM | I've posted the rules for magic also. Took a little more work than the rest. |
| LuciferNietzsche10-12-05, 11:31 PM | I know those are an alteration of the true20 rules, but reading them has compelled me to take a crack at it myself. I don't have the books for that system, so I'll just have to wing it, but what you put up is inspiring. I'll give credit to both, since it's technically the true20 system that I'm adapting from, though I don't have access to it, and Polt's adaptation that inspired me. Anyway, I don't plan on posting my own adaptation anyway, unless anyone wants to see it. |

Fair enough by me then. I do think the combat system is very interesting, very smooth. My only real problem, and this comes from experience with it, is the way toughness saves work is they can be a bit arbitrary. I've harped on the whole varience on a D20 thing before, that applies here and when it goes bad the player is out of the whole encounter which I'm not keen on. Of course this can happen in regular DnD too but the instances are fewer, with True D20 system it can happen on any combat hit at all. I've tossed around the idea of using 3 or 4 D20s for the toughness save rather than the single D20 with increments of 5 on the failure. Each failure on the group of D20's rolled would be a would level. This would make for a smother and more sensible damage system. It's actually already a facet of D20 with crit threats and such. I've not tried it out yet though. |

| polt10-13-05, 10:22 AM | Seems like the post were deleted :( I'd like to know why, or a link to the rule I've broken if that is the case. |
