| Takasi06-03-04, 05:48 PM | Here are some juicy tidbits: http://vault.ign.com/articles/520/520943p1.html Warforged are in, and the game will take place in Xen'drik. |
| JohnnyONeal06-03-04, 05:51 PM | Woo! Thanks for the scoop. Checking it out now. I thought Xen'drik would be the most obvious home for the game. Hopefully that will settled down some of the folks who worried that the game would be all about flying airships and riding the Lightning Rail. Xen'drik is basically one big dungeon. |
| Harmony's Sorrow06-03-04, 05:56 PM | Keep in mind, it ISN'T about airships and lighting rails... But they specifically said it IS NOT a jogging simulator  I love that expression for it! |
| Takasi06-03-04, 05:58 PM | Yes, an awesome article from a great interviewer I might add... ;) |
| JohnnyONeal06-03-04, 05:59 PM | Cool interview! Whoever conducted it was a lot more informed about the setting than the guy who wrote the RTS article. Some thoughts: Looks like the makers of the game know how to describe Eberron. It's cool that they emphasize the organizations. I like how they call the setting "neoclassical." Very fitting! Stormreach sounds badass. Are "The Coin Lords" the Aurum by another name, a group mentioned in the campaign setting book, or something entirely new in the game? Ha! An Indiana Jones reference. Nice. After reading this, I'm a lot more excited for the game than I was before. Looks like they're at least trying for more than an Everquest clone. |
| ieattrollsforbreakfast06-03-04, 06:11 PM | Thanks for the link Takasi, this could be the first MMO I continue after the first month! I like the way they are removing the long distance running, that was one aspect that always annoyed me about MMOs. Is Stormreach mentioned in the CSB? It sounds like a great place, sort of like Xen'drik's Sharn. It mentions the Aerenal elves being in Stormreach, I wonder if the Valenar will make an appearance too. |
| N'wah06-03-04, 06:53 PM | Sounds like they're fixing up a lot of the problems I've had with most MMORPGs- especially all that walking. Ugh. If I wanted to walk, I have my own two legs and there's no lag or zone loads, plus it's fun to run into a random building or place of residence yelling "TRAIN TO ZONE!". Keeps people on their toes. ;) |

One concern I have is that there seems to be very little emphasis on role playing, and more on combat. Which is fine, but misleading (it is D&D, afterall). It's still early though, I'm betting it will turn out decent. |
| Radazim06-03-04, 09:49 PM | My hope (and guess) for roleplaying in D&DO is that the in-game guild system will allow guilds to ally themselves with some of the power groups or dragonmarked houses, based on race, class, or alignment. Indirect PvP can be implemented by providing a "balance-of-power" gameplay based on the successful completion of quests that further the goals of your patron organization without requiring PvP combat (which D&D is simply not designed for). In town, where presumably combat will not be allowed (a la GuildWars), you could always roleplay with members of competing organizations. You could just not come to blows over it. Once the game is stable and mature, Turbine could always add "arena-style" PvP for duels, or even PvP dungeons where two teams compete. The more I read, the more excited I get. :) |
| Azzadar06-04-04, 12:03 AM | Turbine = Masters of the MMORPG I am so siked about this game. D&D Online is long over due. |
| Mad Miso06-04-04, 12:14 AM | When this game was first announced, I had zero interest in it at all. I don't like MMORPG's much to begin with, so I was very nonplussed about the whole thing. It's sounding more and more like a seriously nice piece of work though, and I do hope it turns into a big success. Who knows, even I might give a shot. |
