| Aeros_of_Cupid05-26-07, 02:29 PM | I got an idea from another thread that maybe the changlings could have a Dragonmark. I have been trying to put it to Eberron's Setting. It has few issues, but now I want some comments & Feedback. |
| gelalshawr05-26-07, 02:34 PM | My first response to the idea as a whole would be don't. KB didn't give the new races dragonmarks for a reason. But that being said, it's your game, do with it what you like. I will look at the idea and try to be objective in my responses. |

There's also the Cabinet of Faces. Both are changeling and doppelganger organizations. The former is a crime organization in featured in S:CoT. The latter is a more mysterious group that even featured a PrC (the Cabinet Trickster) in RoE. Either of these groups may fill your needs. Adding a dragonmarked house of changelings would involve some serious changes to both the setting and the race's flavor. |
| Toloran05-26-07, 05:10 PM | Also, by adding another dragonmark house, you would upset the balance of the current ones (since then there would be 13). If that were to happen, one of the houses would disappear/be-destroyed/merge-with-another house. |

| (Psi)SeveredHead05-26-07, 06:07 PM | There are 13 dragonmark houses now, as the mark of shadow is represented by Phiarlan and Thuranni. There are, however, only 12 dragonmarks. Couldn't you make a changeling power group instead? |
| tallric_kruush05-26-07, 06:15 PM | Couldn't you make a changeling power group instead? If neither the Cabinet of Faces nor the Tyrants fit the bill.;) |
| Paulon05-27-07, 01:11 AM | Just slotting in a new Dragonmarked house as part of the setting doesn't sound a great idea, but having a changeling family appear in the campaign, apparently with consistent dragonmarks, and claiming status as a Dragonmarked house has a heck of a lot of potential for plots and investigation. The current Dragonmarked houses would be investigating them to try to find out if they're for real, the Chamber would be interested in anything that might involve dragonmarks, there's the interplay with the Changeling groups already in existance... And that's just assuming that they are what they claim, and since when is that ever the case in Eberron? Finding out that they're for real would lead to a whole lot of questions about the Dragonmarks themselves and interaction with say the Chamber or Vol's forces, while finding that they're fakes leaves all the possibilities about who or what they really are and what they really want... For a really scary thought, how about the changelings being a consistant 'family' of, for want of a better term, aberrant marks, resembling the random aberrant marks in colour but being consistant in powers? How would the 'true' houses react to that? |
| elbrop05-27-07, 06:24 AM | I’m playing around with having rumours of a new dragonmark appear in my game, but on the warforged not changelings. The mark will be the Mark of Life – nothing to do with healing, it’s all about bringing life to the lifeless. Powers like animate object and so on. As the rumours spread they get more amazing – a warfoged made a house grow legs and walk off. An angry mob chasing a warforged suddenly had their clothes come to life and were strangled to death. There’s a boulder in Thrane that screams if you sit on it… Ultimately it will be revealed to be a practical joke started by a few warforged wizards that got way out of hand and now the dragonmarked houses are investigating the matter and are not amused. |

If that were to happen, one of the houses would disappear/be-destroyed/merge-with-another house. Well there was a 13th mark...it got wiped out. So isn't the balance upset right now? Couldn't a new mark appear in one of the 'younger' races to put things back into balance? Just saying that it is possible for either the old 13th mark to reappear or for a new one to appear and replace it. |
| Aeros_of_Cupid05-29-07, 12:37 PM | By the way I named the House Umbrix. They bear the Mark of Society, which gives abilities of interaction, empathy, and emotion. Here is how I have come up with some ways to adapt it to Eberron. 1.The House has only existed for about 25 years and has not achieved D'marked official status yet. 2.The changlings come from all walks of life, but when they manifest their d'mark they immediatly undergo a change in mindset. They see this as their chance to finally be treated as equals. 3.Due to their empathitic nature they don't like making enemies. In fact they are so empathitic of others they almost find it hard to intentionally harm innocent people. |
| Logos705-29-07, 12:45 PM | Nice Fluff, but what if a PC wants to play one? Sorry mr Monster i don't like hurting things and taking their treasure it's just peer preasure and all, Tally ho. If you look at the other houses it seems like the mark influenced the people not directly but threw it's application. The Dwarves are not particularly suited for banking ( especially not with their tendancy to horde, imagine the shinanigans of a bank that goes on a run every thurday cause the dwarfs can't overcome their greed) But the Mark of Warding makes them very proficient at guarding stuff, and banking kind of comes with territory. Look at the difference between Phairlain and Thuranni all from the same mark. The Skill Boost should be enough to guide PC's without crippling fluff. Myself would love to see everyone's faces, but i would make it a hox. A worst Abberrant Marks Loos |
| Aeros_of_Cupid05-29-07, 12:50 PM | Also, by adding another dragonmark house, you would upset the balance of the current ones (since then there would be 13). If that were to happen, one of the houses would disappear/be-destroyed/merge-with-another house. A possible reason could be that there are more d'marks yet to be 12 was never the exact limit permently. Look at the 13th house it has gone inactive and when it did so did the 13th moon. also Dal Quor has become Remote (just like Death d'mark.) Which would also mean there needs to be more moons but what if an alternative is what if one of the current moons are slightly changed only slightly like a keyhole shaped shadow is faintly appearing on Olarune(the Sentinel moon). |
| Aeros_of_Cupid05-29-07, 12:54 PM | They make an Unofficial location in Sharn's Firelight. also the mark would impose a negative on their disguise because it is constantly there. like a -2 or -4. |
| Cifer05-29-07, 01:15 PM | Meh. I prefer to stick with the existing houses - what need is there for a new one? By the way, the mark of death is not wiped out, since there is still one carrier... |
| Aeros_of_Cupid05-29-07, 03:32 PM | Well if you guys don't like the Changling house Idea how about another human or half-elf house with the mark of society. info for mark below. Mark of Society info least: Empathy 2/day, Attraction 1/day, or Discern lies 1/day. +2 sense motive checks lesser: Detect Thoughts 1/day, False Sensory Input*1/day, or Modify Memory 1/day greater:Sympathy 1/day, Precognition 1/day, or Mindprobe 1/day siberys:Microcosm 1/day, Foresight 1/day, or Mind Blank 1/day Some abilities are from Psionic and some others I found another site *"False Senory Input" allows you to alter one sense of subject and alter it by 50%. can't make a castle look like a shack or make acid taste like a lobster dinner, but it can make something like a silver piece look like a platinum piece or gruel taste like an average meal |
| tallric_kruush05-29-07, 07:05 PM | Meh. I prefer to stick with the existing houses - what need is there for a new one? By the way, the mark of death is not wiped out, since there is still one carrier... Do you refer to Erandis d'Vol? If so, her mark's as dead as she is. Maybe you refer to the young elf in the Marked for Death series? If so, not everyone incorporates the novels, since they aren't official canon. As I didn't like that series, I'd likely not incorporate it anyway. I was just curious. If there's another bearer of that mark that I don't know about, that's definitely something I'd like to hear about. |
| Cifer05-30-07, 05:08 AM | Do you refer to Erandis d'Vol? If so, her mark's as dead as she is. Exactly - and she's not quite dead yet. Her mark is inactive, but it's still on her skin and may still be connected to the prophecy. |
| Aeros_of_Cupid05-30-07, 07:43 PM | I don't read/incorporate novels into the campaign. So Erandis d'Vol is the only D'Mark of Death. And might not even become active (by the DM's discretion.) |
| realdm06-01-07, 04:42 PM | hi all.. almost 6 months without posting. in my campaign, after one year of struggling, one of the PC, a rogue, assassin changeling, manifest a new mark , the mark of Morphing, while fighting with beggar daine, who in truth comes out as a fairy dragon (key npc also) who was looking to untap his power.. bla bla.. in my campaign the theory is that all the marks are a succession leading to the perfect mark (the 15th mark, which untaps the power of eberron itself), and the aberrant dragonmarks are just a failure of the prophecy to create the 15th (that explains why Halas Tarkanan was so powerful, his mark was very close to be a true 15th). The 14th mark leads to House Loir, from the family name of the pc, but is also known as the "equalizer" because it announces to the dragons that all the races are the same in front of the prophecy. Now that I'm starting to play a second part of my campaign, set 20 years after, House Loir has been recognized by the houses, and it basically does what the race is good to do: -secret -information -spying -entertainement/prostitution It goes against the 2 elven houses, but that adds some fun to the plot. The mark gives spell like abilities related to polimorphing (Dont have them here now). I know in your campaigns it doesnt make sense probably, but dont start the usual "ah you cant do this you cant do that", be tolerant, in my campaign , which is all involved around the prophecy and its meaning, it has been a smash hit. hope it has been useful. |
| Aeros_of_Cupid06-01-07, 05:18 PM | Did you come up with that or is that in a book. If you did come up with it, nice!! If you didn't which book is it in cause thats very well thought out. And how does the mark interact with the minor shape change? Does it change shape, color, or does it disappear in total? If it doesn't change does it give negative on disguise checks? or just a negative if the spotter first makes a spellcraft check to see if it is of the changling house? |
| realdm06-01-07, 10:57 PM | all of what i say comes from my sick mind and its part of my campaign ("The angel and the gambler", may remind something to metal fans). The mark disappear when used, and can be found through magical detection. In my campaign house Loir is very young and relatively small, mainly lives through the offspring of the founder, who had has many kids as possible. However it is very powerful because the founder PC was connected with all sort of power group and very influent (it was a saga more than a campaign, with several PCs per player and this changeling ended up in being the one who was kinda shaping the plot with its intrigues and influences). Anyway, he sacrificed all of New Sharn (Sharn had been destroyed and instead we have a huge deep abyss , a sort of inverted city of tower which he ruled) to become a daelkyr (still this is some extra thing connected to its past. ) and it mantains its mark.. so the teory that I want to emphasize in my plot is that everybody can manifest the prophecy on itself, (thats why he became a daelkyr, to prove this to all ). This hasnt much to do with your post maybe , but its to explain you the way I think you can exploit the mark/prophecy plotline. Uff.. and by the way.. in my campaign this seemed to be all forecasted by some luminaires of the past.. when this changeling and another PC (which is Baron of house Cannith- mind, we are talking about an 60 session campaign here with PCs of level 18-20), played a mini adventure and got in the misterious 13th floor of the floating piramid in Korth, they released some machinery which shoot a beam into the sky... a new floor of the piramid appears, and a 14th moon manifests in the nightsky.. |
| polt06-02-07, 02:07 PM | KB didn't give the new races dragonmarks for a reason. But since none of us know that reason, I don't see why not. Actually, I think giving the Changeling a house would help the race gain some flavour, right now I don't think the changelings really have a personality, a dragonmark and a house might give them that. |
| Aeros_of_Cupid06-05-07, 02:57 PM | The house Loir sounds pretty cool. and gives me hope for my own campaign thx:thumbsup: |
| Cifer06-05-07, 06:51 PM | Actually, I think giving the Changeling a house would help the race gain some flavour, right now I don't think the changelings really have a personality Please define what you call a "personality" of a race. What are the personalities of the shifters, the half-elves and the warforged? Generally, changelings have personalities by the dozen, although I suspect you're referring to something else... |
