Pallis 05-18-05, 02:03 PM	...remember folks, we're a fan site run by Eberron fans for Eberron fans, and so if you have any articles that you'd like to see in a future issue, type 'em up as you would for submitting a quality piece of work and you never know..your PCs could be starring in the KC and it's always fun when that happens (and offers your players the opportunity to sit back and be smug)...and DMs just love smug players... ...makes us want to think ever harder about new ways to wipe the grins from their faces! :plotting:
stevelabny 05-24-05, 01:48 AM	Hi guys. I've been saving the Chronicles for future use for a while, but hadn't gotten around to reading them as I've been busy finishing my non-Eberron campaign. I'm hoping to get my Eberron campaign off the ground finally in July, and have started reading through the Chronicles. I read the first 7 (minus issue 3) last night. Here's my main question: I llike most of the articles. Others, not so much. But that's ok, as my intention would be to clip out certain articles and replace them with campaign-specific stuff. Along with other minor changes (I want to make the paper WEEKLY so I actually COULD have one every session, as opposed to three times a weaek, where I might need multiple issues in one session) The problem: I don't have the two imbedded fonts on my computer, nor was I sucessful last night in finding free versions of them. This means I can't edit the PDF. Is there a place to get the fonts? As for some comments, my favorite articles are ones that could easily provoke tiny adventure hooks or cute moments of recognition as the party realizes that theyve already read about something. I definitely didnt like the specific mention of GP amounts in the two "business" articles so far. D&D economy is iffy already. Some stories that I thought overstepped the boundaries of the "don't violate the campaign setting rule" included the druids in Droaam, and more noticeably the Brelish-Droaam alliance to send sea trolls with Brelish ships to Xen'drik. I also thought that mentioning things like "the cults of the dragon below" and "eldritch machines" is getting into the secrets of the world, things the PCs and the common folk shouldn't know. Ask Atgar (sp?) mightve been a fun page, but wasnt followed up. Principles of Magic had limited use. The gossip/fashion stuff has actually turned out better than I thought it would be. Definitely some fun stuff there. The food reviews are hit and miss, but definitely worth continuing. I loved the review of the prison food. Other stories I loved were the Soaring Flame story, the sinking of Shorefleet, Arcanix locked down, the Riders of Ruin (although if one Warforged is named Smith, I wouldn't be able to resist the urge of naming the other Wesson) and Sharn's dark defender. Keep up the good work, once my campaign starts, I might send a submission your way. And if anyone on staff can point me to the fonts so I can edit for my campaign, it would be much appreciated.

stevelabny 05-24-05, 06:49 AM	i actually found the fonts tonight, but now i'm having a different problem. if i try to edit something, it throws off the formatting. is this just cuz i haven't figured out how to use acrobat yet? is there an editing pdfs for dummies manual? :D
The Dreaming Duck 05-24-05, 01:16 PM	Great issue! However, one thing puzzles me. The cover story says that the inquisitors at Arcanix were sent by agents of the Brelish crown. Since Arcanix and the Arcane Congress are both located in Aundair, I'm left very curious as to what Aundair thinks of this magical siege of what it undoubtedly considers to be a valuable strategic asset. But perhaps that's a subject for a future story!
Save-vs-DM 05-24-05, 08:36 PM	stevelabny, Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. For future refernce, the two fonts we use are: Clairvaux and Wilhelm Klingspor Hopefully this will help. I use Clairvaux for all the body text and Wilhelm is only used for the subject headlings (like News From the Five Nations). As for actually laying out the Chronicle, I use Adobe InDesign to lay out the pages, and always keep a blank template handy. For those of you who have the program and would like a copy of our template for personal game use, please feel free to PM me about getting one. I havn't tried editing this thing in adobe...so I really can't give you much guidance on how to do that. I wasn't even aware that you could edit it (not that it bothers me, more power to you guys). If anyone else needs the font or a copy of our background or such, just drop me a message via the message system here, or an email. Cheers, Save vs DM
