Hi to all of you,

First of all, please apologise for my poor english. I write from Paris (France), and I'm not used to post in English (if there are some french speaking reader, "salut à tous")

I just bought the basic book of Eberron universe because of a DM who wanted to test it. I must say I am quite afraid with that kind of universe, for me who like the medieval hardcore universe (when you get a long sword +1 around the 12nd level).

That's for an introduction. Next step, chat about the new race FERAL... (don't know the name in english...)

Eberron is very different to traditional medieval fantasy, but its a terrific world, so don't be put off by first impressions. If you haven't played much high fantasy, it might take some getting used to, but its worth it.
By 'feral', I think you mean the shifter race. They aren't a particularly deep race, but plenty of good roleplaying opportunities.

I thought to play a shifter barbarian. That's sound like a very dangerous fighter. Reading the Player Handbook, I realized I never played a fighter. Does one of you played a character like this ?

I have played a fighter a lot of times.
It is really not that easy to play as many think. A fighter has all his bonus feats, and with these he has to decide witch figthing style he wants. a fighter can actually be as good with a bow, og with two weapons, as a ranger can, he just have to choose the right feats. A fighter is the "tank" of the party along with the barbarian. He is the onew who has to battle the enemy first on, and be caple of taking lots of damage. The times i hacve played a fighter, it was mainly because i wanted to play simple (i failed on that one), and because i like to fight hard. If you are playing the shifter barbarian, i would recommend to you to play the partys scout, (if you do not have a ranger or rouge) and i would recommend you to play the hardcore fightertype. (If anyone disagrees with me on the stereotypes i have presented, they are free to recorrect me ;) )

I'm absolutly sure that playing a fighter is not as easy as it seems to be. That's why I want to try this character today. I used to play Bards or Druids, with Nature's affinities.
I'll try, this time, to play my fighter as a weapon expert and a strategy master. My question is : can he be a schifter barbarian ? I'll check that with the DM.

Thanks for your answers.

Well, barbarians are not commonly known as expert tacticians, they're more of the "rush in and smash stuff really well" sort of class.

Yet, that begin said, there is absolutely no reason you couldn't play a barbarian tactician. However, I really think that you'd be better off playing a fighter if you want to play a tactician.

I think you might be aiming for a more precise type of fighter, am I correct?

In that case, I would recommend the following skills.

Sense Motive: So you can determine if someone is bluffing you in combat.
Knowledge (History): So you know about past battles.
Knowledge (Nobility and Royalty): So you know about heraldry and the armies of other nations.
Knowledge (Architecture and Engineering): So you know about castles and other fortifications.

I also recommend the following feats.
Combat Expertise
Improved Trip
Improved Disarm
Weapon Focus

Now, if you really want to go for the "battle tactician" I'd recommend playing a warforged. They have a very tactical mindset and make good tacticians.

I hope this was helpful and welcome to the message boards!

To try and help you, I've used babelfish to repeat this post in french. Apologies if it doesn't make sense, but I don't know french. This is also the doing of babelfish :)

L'Expertise De Combat
A amélioré Le Voyage Amélioré

Bienvenue à Eberron! Si ça vous interesse, je dirige un campaign de Eberron à Paris;
pour tous les details il suffit de suivre ce lien:

...et joindre le group.

On joue en anglais, mais j'ai trois joueurs français en ce moment.

And to answer your question, shifter barbarians are an excellent choice; the bonuses from shifting and raging stack, and both are a free action to activate.

Whouaou. Is it an email campaign ? Because otherwise, I do not have an english level to play in english, but thanks much for your invitation.

For the schifter barbarian, my choice is done and I'll play this character. No more tactics. Just blood :D

No, it's a tabletop campaign that runs every 2-3 weeks near Odeon. Feel free to join the list anyway if you want--the organizer is starting up a new campaign soon that will accomodate people who just want to play occasionally as well as dedicated gamers.
