Is it just me or does there seem to be a distinct lack of the wizard class represented in Eberron? Lots of artificers (duh) and quite a few sorcerers that I have seen mentioned, but not much on wizards...

You mean apart from the Twelve and the Arcane Congress, Khorvaire's premier magical research establishments, run largely by wizards? So far as I can see, wizards are about equally as common as sorcerers.

It could be they're just not as common.

Really, in a normal setting I'd expect to see less monks than fighters. Less paladins than either probably.

Magewrights take up most of the slack for the lack of wizards, and artificers fill in the role of the guys who make all those potions of CLW you need.

Odds are, what wizards there are probably have few a levels and spend most of their time cooped up in libraries.

Is it really too plausible that wizards, who are generally wimpy and like staying indoors with a book, would go out for long journies and blow up goblins on a regular basis?
Adventuring wizards are the exception to the rule of wizards, who are the exception to the rule of "magewrights deal with pretty much all the spellcasting in general."

Well there's Aundair with the Flying Mage Corps and the magic universities like Arcanix.
Morgrave Uni in Sharn has education for wizards if I'm not mistaken.
Karrnath has a great amount of necromancers and so does the Blood of Vol.
And then there's Mordain the Flesh-weaver.

And these are just on the tip of my tongue

what it probably is,

Wizards need spell books and pouches full of components and hours of study and practice, for which a tiny recompense they get ULTIMATE POWERS OF DOOOOOOOM!

Now let us say i am evil karrnathi general and im at war with you, im going to assassinate your wizards to deprive you of ULTIMATE POWERS OF DOOM, meanwhile you are going to do the same thing to me,

Now fast forward to the end of the war most of the Wizards who took part, (and most anyone with more than a handfull of levels) have been taken out as priority targets, and they arnt feeling too happy about advertising the existence of the survivors incase someone decides to get some early work done before the next war,

So there are probably quite a few wizards out there, they just dont think its such a great idea to advertise it to people who might look at them as soft targets,
