I recently picked up a copy of the original Temple of Elemental Evil (I’m a sucker for modules written before I was born) planning on using it as a stand-alone type thing, unrelated to any campaign. But then I started thinking about my upcoming Eberron game, and a strange thought popped into my head – Put the Temple in Eberron! Ok, I’m weird, and most likely didn’t need to write a paragraph on the process involved in wanting to put X module into Y setting. Originality oozes from my pores.
So, now that I’ve both set up this thread and sufficiently defamed myself, I’d like to pose some questions. Firstly, the general; is anyone else planning on retrofitting older adventures to the Eberron setting (or a similar situation)? How much work was involved?
Secondly, the specific; Where would you place the ToEE in Eberron? Two suggestions I got from #Eberron were Northern Droaam, near the Byeshk mountains, and Xen’drik. Droaam was picked because of the lawlessness of the area and proximity to both the Shadow Marches and Demon Wastes. These give ample explanations for the various denizens of the Temple and need for adventurers.
If I were to use Xen’drik on the other hand I would have to make a few more potent modifications. Perhaps super-sizing the dungeon itself into a giant-built shrine, and replacing Hommlet with either a coastal outpost or as a large expeditionary camp (if the Xen’drik option is used the PC’s will most likely be under contract with Morgrave University.)
After choosing a location my next step would be to swap out monsters that fit the new setting a little better and then rewriting most NPC’s for the same reason.
I haven’t yet finished reading through the module so there will undoubtedly be a lot more modifications after this. Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated, as I have never done something like this before.

Also, as a side note, after this project I’d like to do the same to other first edition modules like the Slavers series.

TOEE in Eberron would be cool. If I do this and I may. I think I would use the Blood of Vol and the Order of the Emerald Claw. I guess it would have to be called the TOEC in my Eberron. In fact the Order of the Emerald Claw would use the temple as a place to work on toughening up their recruits in preparation to take over and control the continent.

You know that you could set it the Eldeen Reaches, it's pastoral and doesn't have a significant military presence. There's also the Shadow Marches. In these alternatives the ToEE could hold a seal binding the demons of Xoriat. Or you could set it on the borders of any nation bordering the Mournland.
