| Rolzup09-16-04, 02:01 PM | The following is not, of course, canon. I don't think that any of this will ever be addressed by any official material, and that's all for the good. That said, I'd like to run some ideas past a couple of new eyes, and see if people think that this meshes reasonably well with Eberron history as it's known thus far. This is a followup, by the way, to a thread I started a few weeks back: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=301160 So. It starts with Coatl, fighting the good fight against the forces of Evil, on the continent of Xen'Drik. Overwhelmed, and in need of assistance, the Coatl created a race of servants: the creatures that would eventually come to be known as the Yuan Ti. Now, originally the Yuan Ti were a noble bunch, as you would expect of a race spawned by the Coatl. Human in appearance, with some subtle differences, they proved to be invaluable to the Coatl in their struggle. The Yuan Ti were brilliant artificers, and in fact it was they who created the first Warforged. (The Warforged, as living constructs, could not be possessed by the Fiends that the Coatl were battling.) Given the task of imprisoning a particularly powerful Fiend that the Coatl had managed to defeat, the Yuan Ti created a sort of living prison to hold him: a Warforged the size (and shape) of an entire city. And, being a pragmatic bunch, they moved in. Time passed. The Yuan Ti continued to serve the Coatl, and work many wonders in their name. Eventually, though.... The Fiend imprisoned beneath their city was able to free itself. Not entirely; just enough for it to possess a particular Yuan Ti. This unfortunate creature became the centerpiece of a revolution, whipping his fellows into a frenzy of hatred against their "cruel Coatl masters". The Fiend's goal was to convince the Yuan Ti to free him. Fortunately for all, the City intervened personally. It rose up against its masters, crushing many of them by animating portions of itself, and took control of the Warforged within its boundries. A slaughter ensued, with most of the Yuan Ti being killed. The survivors fled into the jungle. Cursed by their creators, the Yuan Ti have been the degenerate race of evil mutants that we all know and love ever since. Hungry for revenge, of couse, and my! Do they hate the Warforged. Thoughts? |
