| Joni-san01-22-05, 06:13 PM | I took a look at the Dragonshard Enclave and found THIS! (http://www.rpgplanet.com/dragonshard/Umbragen/Champions.html) :OMG! And if that wasn't enough you should take a look at the other races (Man, those jokes are killing me :D) And the official site (http://www.atari.com/dragonshard/home) is up too :mymy: "Thus showing bats are..." |
| polt01-22-05, 07:12 PM | Well, that's not very much info on the Umbargen as a race. I think those leaders are only leaders on the group of the Umbargen you see in the game, not the whole race. |
| Nos-4-A201-22-05, 09:39 PM | Wow, thats a terrible perversion of the setting. Why would the Deathless join under the banner of the Silver Flame? Where's Darguun in all this? Umbargen? Horrible, horrible stuff. |

Horrible, horrible stuff. Note that they are conjecturing about the nature of this unit. Most critically, it's a dwarf - so it has nothing to do with Aerenal. The Umbragen will be dealt with in detail in an upcoming issue of Dragon magazine. They are a subculture as opposed to a race - the Umbragen are to the Drow as the Valenar are to the Aereni. While information is coming out, there's still a lot of speculation involved here - so take everything with a grain of salt! |
| Mad M.01-23-05, 11:12 AM | Yeah, take it easy guys, most of the "information" on that site is speculation. I should know, having wrote it all. ;) The Umbragen are a sub-culture of drow who fled deep into Kyhber after the collapse of the Giants. They have developed a tie with the umbral plane. If you'd have read my introduction, you'd know that. :P By the way, Keith...what's up with that Deathless Dwarf, anyway? I noticed that he's got some kind of huge wooden symbol strapped to his back, and I figured that helps anchor him to the world of the living or something, but overall, that unit has confused me more than anything else I've seen for the game. |

I'm not sure what I can say without violating NDA, so I'm going to err on the side of caution. These dwarves are part of a small group that has no connection to the Mror Holds. There's good reason that they aren't known in Eberron as a whole and that they have chosen to ally with the Silver Flame. They have no connection to the Aerenal elves, but no one said that the Aereni have the absolute monopoly on the deathless; the deathless are spirits maintained beyond death by positive energy and reverence and devotion of their descendents, as opposed to the negative energy normally associated with undead. Just because there's a deathless unit, don't assume that it is similar in nature to the undying elves, or that there is anything like a dwarven Undying Court; it's simply a creature of the deathless type associated with this small and obscure dwarven culture. As a word to the wise, I'll say: consider the Ghaash'kala orcs. |
| Joni-san01-23-05, 01:59 PM | They say that hindsight is 20/20. This is not the case, it's more of a 17/20 if you ask me. I should have linked to the Official site first and then linked to the Enclave  Well now that we have that out of the way: Wasn't the Dwarf in the screenshot (The one next to the Hover dude art) a wizard? I read the Liquid version of Ask the Dev thread and there they said he was a wizard. The floating 'feller? I remember them mentioning that he had the best gathering skills and something else (IIRC something with spotting) In any case: Nice site and nice humor :D "Blind, stupid rage and blind, stupid lust" |
| Mad M.01-23-05, 03:48 PM | Thanks Hellcow! Fascinating tidbit there...I don't think they're allowed to break your legs for that one. Rough you up a bit, maybe. ;) Thanks for the compliments Joni-san. Means a lot coming from a fellow Eberron nut. Working on that website has partially pulled me from following the boards here, unfortunately. (I used to go as Mad Mac, Mad Miso...lets just say it's easier to change names than work out kinks with these boards) :D About the question and answer thread...it does seem, judging from developer comments, that the Deathless Dwarf serves as both a shard detector, fast gatherer, and de-buffer. Pretty versatile unit, although the idea of hardened dwarves using corpses for labour is different, to say the least. Now, if you'll excuse me, I got to read up on these Orcs Hellcow mentioned. Anything on them on these boards I might have missed? Edit: *Slaps Forehead* Of course! The savage Orcs who worship the Silver Flame! Thats perfect! Well, ok, not really, since nothing about them suggest the existance of an allied Dwarf clan, but as a concept, it works. One last note on the Deathless Guardian. Is it just me, or does that log on his back look kinda like the Egyptian symbol of "Life"? |
| Nos-4-A201-24-05, 02:19 PM | Sorry for jumping to conclusions Kieth, I was just really scared for a second. I would hate for this to be another game where "good" races and "bad" races are lumped together for the sake of familiarity. If you're behind it though, it'll be cool. |
| Dex The King01-24-05, 02:25 PM | Of course! The savage Orcs who worship the Silver Flame! Thats perfect! Well, ok, not really, since nothing about them suggest the existance of an allied Dwarf clan, but as a concept, it works.Remember that the Silver Flame is but a name given to the binding force of the couatls' spirits that keep the raksasha rajahs sealed away. Tira Miron inadvertanly founded a religion by answering the call of that force, but who is to say that the "Flame" only picks humans of Khorvaire? The Ghaash'kala orcs could have completely unrelated dwarven counterparts, or even drow ones (it's all up to your DM). |
| Nos-4-A201-24-05, 02:43 PM | I was reacting to the thought of Deathless (in this case Aereni) allying suddenly with the Silver Flame. That seemed odd to me. Now Deathless dwarves I have no problem with. |
| Mad M.01-24-05, 05:28 PM | Interesting thought, Dex. These Dwarves are very savage looking though. Their main fighting unit is a Barbarian, and their leader is barefoot, dressed in primitive clothes, and has warpaint on his face. I wouldn't be suprised is they are from the Demon Wastes. |
