With my goblin druid I would make him a wolf rider and use a longspear. Has anyone else done this? Eberron seems the perfect place to play monster races that are not normally looked at favorably in other game worlds. With all of the monsters used as bodyguards and such, how far fetched would it be to see orc barbarians in Sharn? DM's have you had this come up? Players would you be willing to try this idea? I only ask because I have not seen this idea on the boards. |
| Raziel_Brokodar06-03-05, 10:49 AM | Of course people have played as them! :P (hah!) One of my players played a Hobgoblin Ranger/Fighter, I've had a Blue Psion NPC, and a Bugbear Mobster/Ticket Scalper for the Lightning rail. |
| Orion Polaris06-03-05, 11:13 AM | One of my players played a Goblin Ninja(really was a Monk/Rogue, not the Ninja base class) he had a lot of fun playing it. As for Orc Barbarians in Sharn, I wouldn't say it was that farfetched. We saw something like that in the novel. My players seem to like Goblins and Kobolds, but none of them will play an Orc. |
| DwelleroftheDeep06-03-05, 11:28 AM | Personally I would not allow an orc, just out of balance reasons, +4 strength is to much for LA+0, no matter the penalties. The other main reason is that it completly devalues the already weak half orc. |
| chimpman06-03-05, 11:32 AM | One of my characters is a goblin rogue/druid that joined the Aundairan army (set 30 years before the Last War ended). I'm also the DM for a group of Dhakaani goblinoids. Yay goblins! I love that this setting allows you to do so much with them. |

I'm building a Gatekeeper Druid at the moment, debating whether to go for Orc or Half-Orc, and the Orc is definitely not the more optimum choice. |
| Master of shaarat'khesh06-03-05, 12:09 PM | My first Eberron PC was a Shaarat'khesh goblin rogue/monk (archtypical ninja/Assassin) in a party of other Dhakaani goblinoids. I had a great time playing him. Ironically enough in another campaign we were playing I had a Valenar monk I was playing that I based his fighting style of double scimitar martial arts on Wushu kung fu and the way Darth Maul fights. That PC ended up killing my Goblin (Master of Shaarat'Khesh). The DM had us doing recon on a Valenar camp. In the Valenar campaign a week earlier we had set up camp for a raid into Goblin lands. Long story short, our goblin recon group was sloppy and we were caught by a patrol of Valenar. A battle ensued and a DM played Valenar warrior with a describedly unique double scimitar fighting style took my Master of Shaarat'khesh out. :thinks: It was kind of dissapointing to know he was palying our Valenar PC's as NPC's because the Goblin party got wiped out but at the same time it was very cool and inventive to do it that way. We were winding down on the Goblins anyway with PC retirement in mind but death of those particular PC's was the better way to go, and at the hand of our new PC's made it kind of sweet. |

I dissagree! Half-orcs don't have the -2 wisdom penalty that Orcs have, half-orcs are better, because they only have the -2 int, and cha... An Orc Druid or even any nature class would be at a slight disadvantage, the -2 wisdom can be a pain. My two cents... :D |
| Radkres06-03-05, 01:00 PM | A Game during the War had the PC Join the Army sent them through boot with an Orc Drill Sergeant also had a Warforged Drill sergeant too. Both chewed cigars. |
| Damien_Hiro06-03-05, 04:22 PM | I am actually surprised how many montrous PCs there are. I have a Chainmail Orc druid and a goblin sneak that I would like to see as PCs. The sculpts are well made and I like my paint job on them. For those that use monstrous PCs, do you get penalties for daling with the common races? I think the penalties are built in with the charisma penalty, but how do you fare with commoners and such? |
| Logophylia06-03-05, 05:06 PM | I have desperately wanted to play a Goblin Artificer/Rouge since I picked up the ECS - unfortunately the last time I actually played rather than GMed was several years ago .... I haven't been able to get a player to play a Goblin yet ...... |

Currently playing a Dhakaani Hobgoblin Fighter myself, and while I don't care much for the Barbarian class, I wouldn't mind playing a Orc. |
| Raziel_Brokodar06-03-05, 11:34 PM | I want a Bugbear... or a Goblin Arificier or something... I need my Goblinoids... :weep: :weep: :weep: :weep: (but I gotta remember to stick to my current campaign...) :( |
| Gunrock06-03-05, 11:47 PM | I'm fond of Thorp, my Ogre Cleric. Yes, Ogre Cleric. He's weak on the spells (silly ECL +6) but is a blast to RP, especially with his fine diplomatic abilities. The Brelish citizenship always gets funny looks from the City Watch, too. :dancin: Yeah, monstrous PCs are fun. And they don't face any more racism than any other player race in Eberron (just look at all the anti- Warforged, Elf, Khalashtar, Half-Orc, and Gnome posts that get made on these threads). |
