| Ma'ElKoth08-15-04, 01:58 AM | I just finished reading the Eberron book, and have a few questions for anyone with experience in the setting: 1) Are goblins, hobgoblins, bugbears, and full-blooded orcs "playable" races in Eberron. It seems like they would be, since the goblinoids are mentioned as city-dwelling, and the Orcs are no where near as savage and antithetical to civilization as they are in other settings. Has there been any official word? If not, how would you rule? 2) Drow are mentioned several times in passing. First (IIRC) as being enslaved to the Giants along with the other elves, and once or twice after that. Are they considered a playable race? Also, is there any setting information on them (how they became a distinct sub-race, where they live, who they worship, etc.)? 3) Which prestige classes fit well in the Eberron setting, and which do not? Are there any that are particularly abusive, either to the tone or the mechanics? Thanks |
| Save_vs_DM08-15-04, 02:08 AM | In my game, I allow goblin, orc, hobgoblin and bugbear as playable races. Goblin and Orc don't have a level adjustment. Information on playing them as a PC can be found in the Monster Manual. http://www.coveworld.net/eberron/index2.html That site has some excellent information on prestige classes. Cheers, Save vs DM |

If you want to leave the LA (which exists only because they have 'unbalanced stats' - as though a half-dozen special abilities and/or immunities aren't much more 'unbalancing'), you might want to give them some extra special abilities ('Weapon Familiarity' with a few good Exotic Weapons would be a good place to start, particularly the ever-popular Bastard Sword). Other than that, yes, the goblinoid and orc races are playable, and great fun, in Eberron. |

Most people (and even scholars) in Khorvaire don't even know what a Drow is, since they live on the mystery continent of Xen'drik and keep very much to themselves. They exist to fill the niche of "mystical lost jungle civilization" in the pulp flavor of the setting. |
