In Shadows of the Last War, when the PCs find out where Whitehearth is, they also find out about several other Cannith bases.

What suggestions does everyone have for what's at the other locations?

Sure, some might be completely abandoned or looted already, or be inaccessable, but some would have interesting stuff.

Geoff.

In my campaign, one of the other secret forgeholds contains remnants of House Cannith research programs delving into necromancy (very grotesque and dubious research). The forgehold in question is now under the control of the Lord of Blades, and a warforged cleric of the Keeper is heading a research team in developing undead/construct hybrid technology.

I'm about to send in my War-Torn Open Call submission and I'd prefer that not to touch too much on the same subjects as one of the published adventures. I have ordered SotLW, but it won't arrive until the end of the week. From the quote above, it looks like the secret that's hidden in the Cannith base is NOT specifically connected to necromancy, despite the involvement of the Emerald Claw. Can someone confirm that for me? I don't need any specifics, just a simple yes or no whether the artifact involved in the adventure has anything to do with necromancy. A bunch of :cookie:'s and a :tiphat: if someone can help me out.

The secret weapon that they allude to on the back of SotLW has nothing to do with necromancy.

Cool, thanks. That saves me a night of feverish rewriting, that proposal has to go out the door tomorrow if I want to be sure I'l make the deadline

As for the original question, I'd say House Cannith has to have been experimenting with Elemental binding (since they developed the lightning rail and presumably the airships), even if the Zilargo gnomes apparently got the technique down pat first. That still leaves the interaction with the conduwtor stones though.I imagine that kind of research would need a facility with some serious resources.

One idea I had.

The Cannith research base of Cliff View was once used to research the artifacts of Xen'drik. Along with the typical artifacts the facility includes a massive Orrey room. Fourty feet on each side, the room is a perfect cube. Resting inside is an immense orrey that consumes most of it's volume. Four magical platforms used by the researchers their still hang in the heavy air; two still carry passengers, slumped over the sides.

The thirteen dull brass bands of the Orrey form a globe around a brass pyramid suspended at the center in the smallest band. On all of the bands and pyramid is engraved a jumbled arcane script. While it may resemble an orrey of the planes or moons it has actually been determined to be a mammoth creation schema.....
