| pegasuspaladin02-07-07, 10:12 AM | So here's what I need. I need to know first: IS IT POSSIBLE, WHY OR WHY NOT? second: IF IT IS POSSIBLE HOW DO I PLAY IT? So here's the setup. I have a DM who is starting an emerald claw campaign. Before I knew it was an emerald claw campaign I decided I wanted to be a druid, then I decided I wanted to be an elan druid (yes I know the power points get wasted, I have a reason for wanting to be an elan) I've figured out being an elan druid, in eberron elans are created volluntarially. It's a punishment. So this particular elan will have come to grips with it's earthly punishment and has decided to embrace it. Now I need to figure out how to deal with the fact that druids are supposed to detest undead and aberrations (seeing as the character itself would be an aberration). Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions and the like would be great. oh and btw, the party is going to have a dread necromancer in it. |
| Alex_02-07-07, 11:17 AM | When a Quori is bound into a mortal body, it loses all control. It can no longer influence or affect the host body, but just rides arround as a passenger. So even if it is punishmenet for the Quori, there's nothing they can really do to protest or change their situation. They have no choice BUT to accept their punishment. As far as the host is concerned, as a result of having a Quroi spirit in them, they gain the powerful psionics that make them Elan, but don't have to worry about some Quori controlling them, or even whispering ideas into their mind. The Quori is their power. However! That doesn't mean that the individual wants a Quori spirit in them. They could hate the Quori, and learning that they have one inside of them could be punishment to them as well. They don't want to use the power because they don't like the source. On the Eberron page, it suggests that trapping Quori in mortals to make Elan is a practiced used by the rebellion in their war on Reidra, so your character can be an individual who was part of the rebellion and found themselves infused with the very thing he/she swore their life to defeat. So they turn to the Gate Keeper traditions of Druisim- a practice that specializes in banishing extraplanar beings from the material plane. But why associate with the Emerald Claw? Desperation makes bedfellows of enemies and traitors of friends. They could have something you want or need as part of your training. You may not like undead, but you can tolerate them far more than extra-planar spirits. They're the lesser of 2 evils at this point. ........................................ ........................................ ...................... I'm kind of reaching with all of that though. Honestly, I think that when you found out the Campaign was going to involve playing a member/ally of the Emerald Claw, you should have changed your character's race/class combination to something else more compatible. You should make a note of always asking your DM what kind of campaign you'll be playing, and ask players what kinds of characters they'll be creating as part of your creation process. |
| pegasuspaladin02-07-07, 11:33 AM | oh i realize this and considered something else for the race/class but i only got to play a druid once and the dm was terrible and in one encounter leveled us SEVEN times. so i missed all the fun of growing with the character. |
| Alex_02-07-07, 11:39 AM | You should be able to play a Druid later. This time, however, it sounds better if you would play a more appropriate race/class combination. Sometimes the players have to compromise too. |

Sometimes the players have to compromise too. I would be inclined to agree. There are too many problems with that character concept in a party like that to make it even remotely posible to have fun with (IMO). There would simply be too much background "baggage" to deal with to get any real gaming done. I just dont think it would be any fun to try to deal with it all. |
| pegasuspaladin02-07-07, 05:21 PM | as sad as it is i feel you both are right. although i do still have another question. the PHB says that you can be a neutral evil druid. for the future, how does that get played? |

You do what must be done to succeed with no remorse or pity for anyone harmed or killed by your actions. It's the "survival of the fittest" mindset. |
| UnderworldLord02-07-07, 07:20 PM | I tend to think of neutral evil as being the guy who has no empathy for others. Like a psychopath. He's the guy who skinned his cat as a kid, and didn't feel a thing. He's not evil, he just doesn't have the warm fuzzy feeling other people have. The CoW are of course excellent in their own right, and I wish a dm would play berron so I could play one... along with alot of other combinations I've come up with that would be fun. |

| Cambian0002-08-07, 03:32 PM | Of course you dont have to be an ex-druid to be NE. Think about it this way.... A NE druid would be one that protects nature and natural things with a Ruthless Ferocity. He has no love for anything that is not natural and, in fact, care less if a person lived or died. He is willing to do whatever it takes - anything - to protects nature, including but not limited to, destroying whole villages (women and children alike) in his/her quest to protect all that is natural.. |

And in this case, the Ashbound sect would be an appropriate place to call home. |

All people die, all villages are eventually overtaken by the forests and grasslands, all things suffer at the hands of both winter and death in time, a Neutral Evil druid simply doesn't mind helping things along in that. |

This is the first time I've ever wanted to create a sig and put a quote therein. Wow. |
| pegasuspaladin02-12-07, 09:50 AM | thanks all. now i look forward to another campaign where i might actually get to play an evil druid, but for the campaign in question i'm going with a grey elf telepath. |
| UnderworldLord02-12-07, 12:21 PM | Well, neutral evil is evil. For, CE, check out Black Mage from 8-bit. I think he's a perfect example. |
