Paladin Code of Conduct [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm playing a warforged Paladin of Dol Arrah, and I am trying to flesh out a meaningful, interesting, and at least partly unique Code of Conduct, since one is not specifically described in the ECS book.

So far what I have is this:

"The Shining Path"

1) The Shining Path is constructed of the precepts and will of Dol Arrah. These precepts are: (taken in part from the ECS)

- Conduct combat and war with honor; prevent harm to the innocent
- Be prepared to give all for the Shining Path; your sacrifice strengthens the Path for others to follow
- Bring light to the dark places of the world; Evil flourishes in the shadows, and fears the light of day

2) The Shining Path never ends, but has many forks; some of these forks may lead you off the Shining Path into darkness

3) The Shining Path is Eternal; if you lose the Path, you may find it again with contrition, attonement, and sacrifice

4) ?? (Some kind of pilgrimmage to holy sites representing honor and sacrifice? Where might such sites be located? Flamekeep?)

Still seems like I'm missing a few things. Any comments or suggestions?

What you have got here is more a bunch of precepts than any sort of code and then a few 'catch phrase' type riddle-based statements. These do not make up a code.

What exactly are you trying to make, a new code of conduct for your paladin/God, or design your own precepts/clauses to tac onto the existing code of conduct from the PHB?

Another thing that you may want to consider is what alignment your paladin is. Although the PHB says that paladin's must be LG, I have got a thread going in the classes/races board as to how the Eberron greyness of alignment might change this slightly to allow you to play one step away from LG, just a cleric can worship a God one step away from thier alignment.

I know this does not help much, but I hope it gets you thinking.

07-19-04, 10:03 PM Those are some interesting ideas, and I will definately think about them. I guess I am just trying to give Dol Arrah's Code a little more flavor than the rather vanilla version listed in the PHB.
The ECS has only a short description of Dol Arrah's precepts.

I don't think I favor the idea of a Paladin moving away from LG, not to mention, as you may know, the ECS states "Paladins are called to a strict and exalted life...mystically held to a higher standard than even clerics..." I might be interested in the alignment-based variants presented in Unearthed Arcana, however.
