Next session my PCs are going to be attending a private party on board a House Lyrandar Air Ship thrown by a few of the ir’Tain girls. Mostly Cyra and Cariana, however, Hass will also be there as will Daral.

Hass has a fair amount written about him; however, what I need to know is what Cyra and Cariana look like, how old, and just a bit of general information to make them memorable NPCs. Also Daral would be a good one too.

I envision all of them as young, and all very attractive individuals, each one popular for one reason or another within the Aristocracy of Sharn being that the ir’Tains are some of the richest members of Sharn.

Also, who else might be in attendance at a private party like this? I was thinking of people like Sava Kharisa, Savia Potellas, and heck, maybe even Helais ir’Lantar to spy on them all heh! Also I imagine a few Lyrandar people will be there, with them being Half-Elves too I can imagine that Dragonmark house and the ir’Tains have close ties?

Anyway, I would greately appreiciate any information anyone might have on these NPCs. I have scoured Sharn: City of Towers for more information on them all, I’m wondering if there are any other sources I might find them in? Or perhaps Hellcow will chime in with a quick word on this? I would so love that! (By the way Keith, this bit of my campaign was inspired by your description of the party in your first Novel, Loved that book!!...hope this thread doesn’t get closed for that… :(

Also what types of unique and exciting things might one witness at a party on a Lyrandar Air Ship?

Sure there would be drinking, maybe some House Phiarlan entertainers (dancing girls? Musicians? Something completely different and original?)

This party will be far above Sharn, so the view would be amazing.

Jon's Instant Party (Serves 23 noblemen, or 50 noblewomen)

1) Pick the type of party: Commoner, Wedding, Formal, Business-Formal, Royalty-Formal, Fancy Dress (costume), this sounds like a plain ol' Formal/BizFormal party to me.
2) Pick the music that will be played (it's a good idea to grab a CD of "examples") Personally, I'd go with something that sounds like Baroque style Minuets. See: Bach
3) Pick the food and drink. Is it prepared and served as entrees? Do people stand around and eat Hors d'ouvres? Make sure that there's enough room for dancing if you need it.
4) Pick the People who will be there. If it's business, expect to see a bunch of people talking in small groups. Otherwise, expect dancing and canoodling.
5) Come up with basic descriptions for Big People there. A sentence or two for what they're wearing and/or doing is fine.

While I can't give you unique things to do, because they're Rich Girls. Imagine them like Paris Hilton, striving to be the giggling/faux bashful center of attention. Or play them like ugly rich girls who own the finest things but are ugly on the outside(or just are mean). Or play them like nebbish librarians with expensive clothes.

The key here is: it's YOUR game. Make it up. Come up with an answer and Damn the torpedoes!

This is what I have so far, it still needs lots of fleshing out.

Notes for the Ir’Tain Party on the Lyrandar Sky Ship Silver Sparrow

Appearance of Venue: The Silver Sparrow floats amidst the clouds high over Skyway, Red and blue light from the massive galleons three giant elemental rings colors the surrounding clouds like a brilliant sunset. Long streamers and strands of light hang from the ships masts and rigging and delightful music with a sultry exotic beat greets guests as they arrive via air taxi. As each guest arrives they are announced to the throng of partiers on the main deck and then immediately offered expensive Champagne and exotic hors'doeuvres. All around the galleon, dancing through the air are House Phiarlan dancers, dressed in brilliantly glowing costumes that sparkle and glow with starlight. They dance to the subtle pulsating beat of the music from the band on the foc’sil. This is not your average ballroom party of prim and proper nobles; this is more a rebellious expression of the aristocratic chic that has been dominating the local nightclub scene of late.

Who is in attendance:

Hass ir’Tain: A roguishly handsome half-elf with lightly tanned skin and slate gray eyes partially obscured by wild strands of his long blond hair. His posture is very straight and proper; he almost comes off as the gentleman's gentleman, but he moves with the smooth confidence of someone trained to use the ornate rapier at his side. He is comfortably dressed in a simple light fitting white suit. He enjoys parties, but he is here to discuss matters of importance with the PCs.

Elaydren d’Cannith: is in attendance, she is friends with Sava Kharisa and turned to her for help after suffering a recent armed robbery where some very important items were taken from her. Kharisa in turn, turned to her best friend, the resourceful Hass ir’Tain who has a team of elite gladiators at his command (the PCs). The PCs will travel to Xen’drik on behalf of Elaydren to kick off the module “Grasp of the Emerald Claw.”

The meeting will be to discuss the details of what happened when Elaydren’s patterns were stolen and by whom (see module)

Appearance: Elaydren wears a blue velvet gown and a belt of star sapphires adorns her petite waist. She is a slender woman, with shoulder length raven black hair and blue eyes. She has a deep intelligence about her, accentuated by the delicate pair of silver rimmed glasses that rest on her aquiline nose that in a strange way makes her more attractive simply because it is such a unique nose. She wears a house d’Cannith signet ring.

Sava Kharisa: Councel member representing Lower Central (NG Female Human Expert 7/Wizard3) owns a trendy art gallery in Granite Hall and is extremely well connected with much of Sharns populace. She is very well liked and a good person to know. Appearance: Kharisa has a friendly smile, enhanced by her warm brown eyes and luxurious shoulder length brown hair that impishly frames her round face. She is attractive, and extremely likable. Her voice is clear and her laugh a joy to hear. She is dressed in a fun and slightly suggestive red flowing gown.
Recent News: Sava Kharisa recently survived an assassination attempt. She suspects the Boromar clan, or perhaps another member of the Councel. (May be another attempt on Sava’s life at the party).

With Sava Kharisa:
Gear (LN Male Warforged Fighter 5) Hammer (LN Male Warforged Fighter 6) Sava’s bodyguards. She had previously hired d’Deneith bodyguards but then became suspicious that they were up to something and fired them.

Savia Potellas: Councel member representing Lower Menthis (NE Female Human Expert2/Bard1) Owns Savia’s Brothel
Appearance: Beautiful and mysterious, her cold blue eyes hide a great intelligence and sharp wit. She wears her white blond hair pulled back in a tight bun and she is dressed in an elegant white sequined gown, that flows and trails behind her yet still shows off her ample curves.
Recent News: Is talking to Kharisa about her recent assassination attempt and speculating about it. Is very tired of paying tribute to the Boromar clan and would like to figure out some solution.

With Savia: Gus: (N Male Goliath Monk8), Gus is a mute, but he is huge and strong and a deadly combatant. He is Savia’s bodyguard and man servant.
Sylphina: (CN Half-Nymph) Savia’s top prostitute. Appearance: Irresistably Seductive in a perhaps too revealing gown of shimmering star silk that hugs her slinky yet amply curved body in an entirely too suggestive way, yet somehow Sylphina manages to look absolutely sophisticated and ladylike. A night with her would cost an astronomical sum.

Cariana ir'Tain: (LN Female Half-Elf Aristocrat1) The youngest ir’Tain daughters Cariana likes to have fun. She is also a huge fan of Cypress Caspian (a PC) as he saved her life.

Cyra ir'Tain: (N Female Half-Elf Aristocrat 3)

Daral ir’Tain: (N Male Half-Elf Aristocrat1)

Helais ir’Lantar: Ambassador from Aundair (in reality he is an agent working for the Lords of Dust, and in his true form a Rakshasa).

Servants:

Gabrielle: (NG Female Human Commoner 1): A gentle eyed girl with wheat colored hair. Long eye lashes feather over her green eyes. She is dressed in an elegant servants dress and has a small apron tied around her slender waist. Her smile comes easily causing dimples to form in her cheeks.

What I need are more descriptions of nobles, more conspiracy and recent news items, ideas for mini events at this party, and more descriptions of servants and other people.

Also, what the heck is Helais ir’Lantar doing there? Perhaps spying on the PCs?

Any ideas you guys have would be great!

Don't forget to make the Airship as opulant looking as possible. Keith's Book described a Lyrandar Prince's yacht, and I still rmember it even two months afterward.
The aft was a normal airchip, though the hull is gleaming white, but the fore was carved to resemble a great, jet-black Kraken that was devouring the ship. It's tentacles wrapped the front and rear, forming the elemental bound rings that provided propulsion. It really stood out.

Also, remember that there should be a definite REASON for the PCs to be at the party. They're not going to go up to each and every nobleman and chew the fat for a few minutes. They're not going to dance with every beautiful woman, and if they do, then what are they odds that they'll remember all of them?

I'd say about 50% of the Ball will end up being ad-libbed anyway (or 90%, if the PCs decide that tactical nukes are their only option), so make sure that you have the generalities covered, more than the specifics.

You could always look to steal plots from your average Teenage Romance Drama TV series, like the OC or the equivalent.

If you're looking for side-plots, chances are many of the people at the party are specifically there to see and be seen, and make connections (which may or may not include actually "hooking up," as it were). Maybe they're looking for business deals, or trying to get in good with someone influential.

Depending on your party, it might be rather interesting to throw in a random "encounter" where an attractive young woman, in a very exaggerated and melodramatic fashion, starts hitting on one of the PC's...all just to spite her (ex-)boyfriend. But perhaps he's the jealous type, and threatens to throw the PC off the ship. But the PC's can't exactly draw steel and cut the guy down (even if it'd be all too easy)...he's the son of someone important.

Similarly, you could have someone intentionally spill food or wine on someone else, and again, causing an altercation. Or just a very drunk-and-belligerent person makes a very large nuisance of themselves (again, because they're the Heir of Someone Important, defusing the situation requires a little bit of additional care).

If they're particularly politically-savvy, guests may play a subtle game of chess, using the PC's as pawns, by either setting them up to cause a disturbance, or by trying to earn the PC's favor in order to use them later. Ideally, you'd want to give the PC's the impression that they're fresh meat that's been dropped into the shark tank. Everyone is subtly (or not-so-subtly) sizing them up...

And hey, you can always have someone just die. OD'd on Dreamlily, or some such. And naturally, as everyone else on the ship is wealthy and powerful and pretty...and the PC's aren't exactly...guess who the cops come look at?

A party on an airship should be like the harbor cruise parties they have in any major port city. Remember that your party doesn't have to just float in the air over Sharn, wouldn't the ship move once the party gets underway showing off the sights and sounds of the brelish countryside?

You've already started, obviously, but I would look to S:CoT for inspiration on who to have in attendance, though you could also pull some from 5N surely, both of these are going to be good for plots. Check out any relevant "power groups" in the ECS too. Of course, the most important source for these should be the future of your campaign. What do you want to happen next? Who should the players meet or get to know?
