Hiya all,

in my campaign, if you are unable to attend a session for whatever reason then you designate a proxy to run your Character for the evening.

Now, if you die under control of a proxy ... tough.

I felt this was a bit harsh so I was considering allowing a Character who has been killed whilst under control of a proxy to spend an Action Point to stabilize at -9 HP. This will obviously only come into play if the character goes form more than 1 HP to less than -9 in a single hit.

So, what do people think?

Cheers, Chris.

I think you should just be nice to your players and have their characters be "off doing something else" when they aren't present. It's really lame to have anything happen to your character because another player had him do something stupid to save his own character or what have you. Maybe I've just read too many horror stories on the forums, but that's my opinion.

Well, I don't see a problem with this, but I have one question.
What if the charcater was killed, you spent one of its AP and stabalized it at -9 and it was killed again? Could it spend naother AP to reach -9 stabalized again?

Except for that, I think it works pretty well. You have a rule that make sure that a missing player wont ruin the game for the rest. It's a good rule, and this new option makes it so that the player will have his charcater when he returns.

Hmm, good point.

I guess that as long as the PC had action points to spare their proxy could spend one each time they were 'killed' to remain at -9 HP.

Cheers, Chris.

Just don't have your PCs enemies attack the "dead" character. Why would they attack a fallen enemy anyway? Unless an area effect spell or other event catches the character, it should be quite alright at -9 HP. At least as long as his buddies are still standing. If they fall too, of course, his enemies can go make sure he's dead.

We usually do it like this: If an adventure is already started, the DM or one of the players plays the absent player's character. If a new adventure is about to start, the absent player's character is instead just left at home. Unless the DM knows that the group will be stuck far from home for several game sessions...

That's pretty much the way we play it, too. It strains plausiblity if a character is "off doing something else" in the middle of an adventure - though We usually hand control to another player, because the DM already has enough to worry about.
