IF you're in my Eberron Campaign and reading this, you're only hurting yourself. So leave now and hit yourself with something hard.

Ok, now that we got that taken care of.
I'm in the middle of creating my second mission idea which is just a continuation of the first and elaborates more deeply on the overall plot. However, I ended up creating a place where the PCs will be interested in and drawn to. The only thing is: I have no idea what to make it so attractive! On top of that, I have a band of thieves and a rogue thief also interested in this place. And to make my troubles even worse, there's a goblin tribe that is afraid to enter this place.

So, this place works really well for a catch in my campaign and fit in perfectly, I just don't know why it is a significant place. The PCs won't either until after completing it. However, the other two factions [Thief and Bandits] will know beforehand and be searching it out. The goblins can always have some insensible reason for not entering. Perhaps they believe it is haunted or sacred ground or there are just "bad guys that eat goblins" in eat.

Thus, I need to ask for ideas. Anyone have any ideas on what the PCs, Bandits, and a Thief would all be interested in. Oh and on a side note, these Bandits are major league. They prolly wouldn't be down there for just some gold. Also, it's under Sharn. In the Depths, so it couldn't really before a Forge, because it's not deep enough.

But some ideas, other than cold, hard gold could be a book on something, a map to something, minor artifact, perhaps still a forge, and perhaps something with political intrigue. Now keep in mind the PCs are still going to be low levels when they explore this area. So it can't be excalibur or the holy grail.

It could also be nothing. It's all from a ripped map, so perhaps it was some ancient treasure [it is ruins] that was long lost and replaced with vile and deadly traps.

So I come to you guys for help. Any ideas? As of now, anything is better than what I have.

A magical crowbar that adds a +10 to strength checks involving the opening of doors, chests and other shut objects. Whats more, its an intelligent crowbar, name of Jimmy, and reportedly knows a few locations of other valuable items.

The irony is that he's currently safely locked away (organised by an LE warrior-type whose stuff Jimmy knows about), but without a user, he can't escape.

Jimmy is Chaotic Neutral in alignment.

Wow. That is...well Splendid! I love it!

Honestly, it seems like such a funny idea and just a plain ol' joke, but it makes perfect sense and fits into everything. I might not use the name Jimmy, even tho it's good, and I don't think it's that of a Black Guards. But instead, that of a little Gnome Rogue [brother to the Gnome you got the map corner from]. And locked away tightly in a chest in this place where this Rogue left all his loot. Not only is it a useful item for the group, but it will catalyze a series of treasure hunts to the various locations this Crowbar knows about. I love it! Thanks, Splendide!

Well guys, keep 'em coming. So far, so good.

Have you done Forgotten Forge or looked at December's Dungeon? If you have been there done that or just want some other ideas here you go: I think partial plans to an eldritch machine or perhaps even a minor dragonshard item for 1st or 2nd levels, hired out by the Town Watch to explore. (Lvls 3-5) A treasure map to Xen' drik along with a long abandoned dragon hoard(CR2) protected by hoard scarabs(Draconomicon pg 167). After the PC's recover the hoard enter the thieves and goblins to ambush them. Thieves and goblins don't have much of a chance vs. scarabs because AOE spells or alchemical items are about all that work against them. They can thank the PC's for doing the dirty work. After they conquer their foes they find out that the map leads to some ancient texts concerning the Draconic Prophecy. If your players could care less about history have a polymorphed dragon hire them out to scout for info concerning the Prophecy. That's two hooks for the price of one, flesh it out!

P.S. let me know how it goes if you decide to use this

I am totally hooked on Eberron. Most of the PCs in my group are really enjoying it. We spent our first session rolling characters and coming up with some background material. Even though not all the PCs are comfortable role playing, I really wanted everyone to at least have a basic back story. I wasnted the PCs back ground to explain why they would be together as a group.

The next step was probably the most time consuming for me. I set up a one-on-one gaming session with each of the PCs based on their individual back stories. Each of these sessions took about an hour. It was more story telling than anything else. Once the sessions were over, I combined the notes from each session detailing the PCs' pasts and the circumstances that brought them together.

Before Eberron, we had done a couple of dungeon crawls, but for this I really wanted to try an urban adventure. All of the PCs had some level of involvement in the 100 year war. I wrote into the back story that there was a soldier who had some level of impact on each of the PCs. I went so far as to make the NPC and older brother to one of the PCs.

The adventure started off with a bang. The NPC soldier invites the PCs to a bar in the red light district of Lower Methis Pleateau. The PCs arrived to find a racaus party already in full swing. However, before they have a chance to take their first drink a group of thugs crash the scene and a fight ensues. Almost from the onset of the encounter, the NPC is wounded which later proves to be fatal. His somewhat cryptic last words are what sets the PC on an adventure that is taking them through the streets of Sharn and eventually beyond. I created additional adventure paths by having the PCs brought in for questioning once the authorities arrived on the scene only to find several dead bodies. The PCs were driven by revenge and intrigue.

The bar fight was a blast. As I was setting up the scenario, I was envisioning the bar fight from the Raiders of the Lost Arc. The PCs really enjoyed the way it played out.

Sure, having an npc summon the players is not the most original way to start an adventure, but everyone really enjoyed the way I tied their backgrounds together.
