Per pound value for special substances [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-31-05, 10:46 AM OK, this is a tough one.

Recently my group encountered a small (very small) branch of the Lords of Dust.

In an anticlimactic battle, we manged to kill an Ak'Chazar (Align weapon, true strike, arrow of demon slaying, the Ak'Chazar rolled a 2 on his save).

In one of the vaults, there was a large collection of coins crafted from different rare metals.

I'm pretty sure my DM put them there for the Artificer to craft into items for the group.

Unfortunately, our artificer was 'taken' in the first round (Trap the Soul). So now our group just wants to sell off the metals for maximum cash value.

The problem is our DM doesn't know the price per pound value of any of these metals and says if he can't locate a source for the prices, we just won't be able to sell them.

Any ideas?

Here are the things we found:

200lbs of Byeshk
500lbs of Adamantine
300lbs of Star Metal
100lbs of Targath
75lbs of Thinaun
and enough Deep Crystal to fashion 3 weapons.

Any help would be deeply appreciated

10-31-05, 11:00 AM Do you have a 9th-level Wizard with ranks in Craft skills (or a decent untrained bonus to same?) The best way to get top value out of those raw materials is via the Fabricate spell.

10-31-05, 12:51 PM There's an argument about whether adamantine has value by weight, or by the craftsmanship required to turn it into a weapon. This is because an adamantine greatsword and a dagger are very similar in price, but very different in weight.

Your DM probably has to just make something up. From the DMG, a CR 15 encounter (the rakshasa) should provide treasure of 22,000 gp. That's something to start with.
