| twelvedrunkenmonkeyz11-27-05, 12:14 PM | Ok I just would like to get this out of the way and say this. This is a petition for WotC to maybe release maps (nothing descriptive, just location names) of the other continents of Eberron. This including Sarlona, Frostfell, and Argonessen. Please sign up, maybe wizards of the coast will hook us up. I just would like to see cities/named, regions/named, and features. No descriptive text or anything like that, but stuff like oh there is the desert of blah blah, and such. |
| Majorafire7711-27-05, 12:42 PM | I'd like to see a map of Khorvaire like the ECS web enhancement had but with the updated travel distances and lightning rail paths presented in the EH. Maps of the other continents would kind of suck because those places were put there for the DM to stick in whatever he wanted, and defining the regions by making an official map would be rather lame. |

| Edymnion11-27-05, 01:24 PM | Unlikely. Name one petition WotC actually followed through on.Wasn't officially a petition, but most of the 3.5 changes were fueled by what people on the boards here griped about. Hence why Haste got overly nerfed, and why hypnosis and astral projection were left untouched. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. |

I think the map in the EH doesn't have the travel distances on it, I got mine amonth ago, and it doesn't have any travel distances and such. There is a super high res map on the wizards site that has the travel distances. I don't care to find it at the moment. Also, I think a map of the other continents would be useful, even if it was just regions and no cities and such. Also, there is a book coming out in the summer, Secrets of Xen'drik, which should have maps (I WOULD HOPE) |
| Edymnion11-27-05, 08:26 PM | Personally, I don't want to see maps of places like Xen'Drik and the rest. I want to be able to say something is a certain way without having to fight a map to do so. For example, in my game, the broken portion of Xen'Drik is surrounded by a certain gray mist... and I'd like to keep it that way. I don't want some map to come out with the lable "Super Happy Giant Fun Town!" right in the middle of my Ancient Mourning local. |
| Azazyll11-28-05, 12:19 AM | Also, there is a book coming out in the summer, Secrets of Xen'drik, which should have maps (I WOULD HOPE) According to Keith, who is working on secrets of xen'drik, there can't be a map of the continent because the laws of space don't work there. He mentioned that part of what the cataclysm did was play havoc with the very fabric of the land, which is why new things are always popping up near stormreach. Two different times tryign to get to the same place would have to go different ways. Personally, I like this, it gives even more feel to xen'drik as the perfect "insert your own thing here" place. Some, of course, will see it as a cop out. But considering the amount of work keith has done, and his incredible creativity, this would be totally unfair. Got to give the guy credit for standing by what he thinks is the right atmosphere for his setting and balancing that with his control (or lack thereof) as a freelancer. I doubt we'll see argonessan anytime soon, it's supposed to be impossible to even get into. Keith has long hoped for a sarlona book, but it sounds like that's a not even in the picture yet. And cartography isn't free, nor is the time of developers. Right now, souther sarlona is adar is about all we're going to get. And as far as frostfell goes...how many people know what mountain ranges there are in antartica? how many maps show anything but a horribly distorted white blob at the bottom? Frankly, I hope we see stuff on the planes first, those are much more accessible than other continents. |
| PoeticJustice11-28-05, 01:47 AM | Personally I don't care what they come out with so long as it's BIG. The new Eberron books have a lot to cover and limited space, meaning that topics get skimmed when they're worthy of more. This is my chief complaint about Magic of Eberron, that they didn't give Dragon, Daelkyr, ect. Magic the coverage it deserved. Worse, this shallow treatment doesn't lend itself well to expansion; new writers won't be able to pull much out of Magic of Eberron to be expanded upon in further entries because all the juicy stuff that comes from 10 pages of writing gets left on the cutting room floor. A good standard is set by a boardmember. It takes at least 10 pages for TheFireBalledMage to cover a Dragonmarked House well. WotC should demand at least twice as much from someone who's actually being paid for their work. |
| DoveArrow11-28-05, 10:41 AM | And as far as frostfell goes...how many people know what mountain ranges there are in antartica? how many maps show anything but a horribly distorted white blob at the bottom? There aren't any mountain ranges in Antarctica. Well, at least none that are visible through the up to two mile thick glacier that covers the continent. |
| Azazyll11-28-05, 11:21 AM | There aren't any mountain ranges in Antarctica. Well, at least none that are visible through the up to two mile thick glacier that covers the continent. or because it has the highest elevation of any continent, an average of six thousand feet to north america's two thousand. the highest point, however, is Vinson Massif, sixteen thousand feet up, and is part of the sentinel range, part of the Ellsworth Range, which is a 200 mile long chain of mountains, one of several in antartica, including the horlick mountains which form part of the transartic range that divides the continent in half. And yes, it takes proffesional alpine climbers to climb them, most people just fly over them (check HP Lovecrafts' "At the Moutnains of Madness", his longest story, for early SciFi about them , he was wiriting at about the time they were discovered). The Bentley trench, just for the sake of argument, is covered by glacier but is still fascinating as the lowest point on earth not covered by ocean, two thousand feet below sea level and about as large as Mexico. Check your facts before you post, it would have taken you two seconds. The point is no one cares (as DoveArrow obviously didn't), so it's unlikely that it'll get coverage by WotC either. I think frostfell is fascinating, I would love to hear more about it, but I think the ridiculously bad story in EH is the only tidbit we'll get for a long time unless keith decides to write on it. and since I'm setting part of my campaing there, that gives me room to play :) |

I did not act like a total jerk to you, so you don't have to do it to me! And don't treat me like I didn't at least try to check my facts! The site I checked said that Vinson Massif was the highest point, but it talked about it like it was a glacier, not a mountain. Just because you know something I don't, doesn't make you smarter, or better, or anything else, so don't treat me like I'm some sort of uninformed idiot! |
| MrFilthyIke11-28-05, 12:32 PM | Unlikely. Name one petition WotC actually followed through on. Well, it WAS odd that after a year of "No map" gripes one showed up in the Eberron DM's screen... ;) |
| Majorafire7711-28-05, 04:15 PM | I think the map in the EH doesn't have the travel distances on it, I got mine amonth ago, and it doesn't have any travel distances and such. There is a super high res map on the wizards site that has the travel distances. I don't care to find it at the moment. Also, I think a map of the other continents would be useful, even if it was just regions and no cities and such. Dude, there are travel distances in the first chapter of the book. If your book doesn't have them, then it's defective, return it and get another copy. I know that there's a map on the site that has the travel distances (the ECS enhancement, which I had mentioned in my post). The problem is that the distances on the site's map are not the same as those on the EH map, and the locations of lighting rail lines on the map is inconsistant with those on the chart in the EH. Therefore, I said in my post that I wanted a map like the one we have on the site currently but with the EH lighting rail lines and travel distances, as well as Orien trade road distances that make sense when paired with the updated lighting rail ones. Also, there is a book coming out in the summer, Secrets of Xen'drik, which should have maps (I WOULD HOPE) That would suck. There should be no complete map of the "DM's playground" in Eberron. Maps of adventure sites EH-style would be fine though. |
| Brastan11-28-05, 06:00 PM | Why doesn't someone just geo-code Eberron and save some effort? Oh wait I haven't had time to make up fantasy data for a GIS. I don't know if Wizards would be happy with an Eberron IMS(internet map server). I would like to create one but I'm still learning the programs and the semester is coming to a crazed finish. A few details would have to be settled first such as how is Khorvaire projected and other fun stuff. Considering that there is no Dragonmark dedicated to cartography I can see why there are inconsistencies in the published maps. ;) |
| DoveArrow11-28-05, 10:12 PM | Well, it WAS odd that after a year of "No map" gripes one showed up in the Eberron DM's screen... ;) Those people at WotC are brilliant, by the way. I mean sure, the screen is cool and all, but how many more people bought the screen simply because the map was included? I know I did. Brilliant! |
| mhacdebhandia11-28-05, 11:03 PM | Unlikely. Name one petition WotC actually followed through on. They added the errata to the Deluxe Player's Handbook, which they originally stated they wouldn't do. Guess the people upset about paying US$75 for an unerrataed product were more vocal than those complaining about the prospect of having to buy a deluxe book to get the errata in printed form. |
