| OgreBane9906-16-07, 01:49 PM | I've searched all over for a post on this and couldn't find anything, so if it's been done (and I can't imagine it hasn't), some links would be cool. I'm looking for some ideas on a new dragonshard. Colors? What it's called? Powers associated with it? Where it comes from? Where you can harvest it? What type of magic items it's used in? Etc. I'm thinking on the lines of a green dragonshard (don't think that's been done) associated with planar powers that can only be found near manifest zones.... any other ideas? |
| Syltorian06-16-07, 02:05 PM | I would reconsider making it a dragonshard. Nobody has created any other type because the shards are linked to the Progenitor Dragons, of which there were only three - Siberys, Eberron and Khyber. If you created a fourth type, you would be forced to rewrite the entire creation myth as well... or at least shake up the links of the shards to mythology. Faiths of Eberron already has Eberron shards incorporated into a holy symbol that grants powers over denizens of other planes. If you want to go ahead with a plane-linked dragonshard, I'd suggest you do not create a new type, but something more akin to a mutation of an Eberron dragonshard. It could be a different colour, if you wanted it to; but at least this would get around the problem of there only being three progenitor dragons. As for what powers this could have, that would probably depend on the plane. Perhaps they could be used for warding against planar incursions, essential parts of Gatekeeper seals, that kind of thing; or they could be 'containing' parts of the manifest zone, the powers of which got absorbed into the Eberron shard and caused its mutation, and can be accessed with the right knowledge and tools. |

Not that I've given it any thought, but how about combining different types of shard? (Eberron/Siberys etc.) Perhaps one of the Houses is trying to come up with a way to combine them to get a new effect. Just an idea. |

Which would be a world shaking discovery, probably a bit more severe than even adding new dragon marks. So, not to say you CAN'T do it, but it's a big change. |

Y'know, it always says "the three *most powerful* progenitor dragons". Which implies there were others. Prolly the draconic gods, or the dragon forms of the Sovereigns. |
