Aberrant or Not? [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-06-07, 09:23 PM I was in the elevator at my work today when an idea came to mind. What does the rest of the online DnD community like better, aberrant dragonmarks or "regular"? SO, if you could say which one and what kind. House of Sivis or aberrant dragonmark: burning hands? ect.. You can pick the higher level ones out of Dragonmarked. :)

Cause fear & feather fall were the only two I used. Cause fear I used with my Kalashtar cleric of the Keeper. Feather fall I used with my human samurai.

I like both Cannith and Orien the best of the 'true' dragonmarks.

I also love Abberant marks. I like to create new abberant marks, by allowing pretty much any spell of the correct level.

I've been working on a campaign centered around a False Dragonmarked house. "House" Varashk with it's "Mark" of Flame, is comprised of Orcs and Half-Orcs with Either Abberant marks with flame powers disguised by magic, or magic tattoos enchanted to give a false aura like a dragonmark.

09-08-07, 12:30 AM In my humble opinion, Aberrant marks simply look cooler. I love the red motif. Also the idea of being a combatant of any class and casting Confusion on my enemies is great hilarity for me. "Oh, he's simply a Fighter. Never mind. Confusion!" Bam! Pure awesomeness. The true dragonmarks lack the punch adventurers need.

09-11-07, 09:01 PM It depends, is the game oldschool eberron where having an abberant mark means you're a marked man (and not in a good way) where people are going to shun you for having an abberant mark, or is it a post-dragonmarked game where suddenly nobody really gives a damn about abberant marks anymore?

Never again shall my character be held responsible for his misdemeanors (though felonies will take some effort.) Also, we run your message services. Attacking me is like punching a phone operator, everyone wants to, but watch when my cousin drops your calls. (If I'm going to abuse power, I want you to legitimately fear it. orien? It's called walking. Lyrandar is close, but sivis is underestimated. Tharask would be a good one. "If you mess with me, I WILL find you.")

09-12-07, 05:38 PM I thought that the Dragonmark of Scribing was the worst until I recently started a Sivis gnome wizard. I chose arcane mark 2/day as the power for my Least Dragonmark (a prereq for a PrC it turns out my character will not be joining). I thought I would always regret it.

But it's a hoot. I am currently arcane marking skulls on the side of my crossbow for every enemy I kill with it. I can mark people and it will stay for about a month.

My group now jokes about my "seal of approval."

09-12-07, 06:27 PM I love Dragonmarks in general. I've come up with many many MANY builds that I'll never find an oportunity to play. Like my Phiarlan Bard/Jester (prc from an April issue of Dragon).

I also have many Aberrant ideas, but again, rarely get an oportunity to play.

My favorite? Hard to say, but it you absolutely pressed me I'd say Orien. Today anyway.

Of course, it might be the GM in me speaking, but a Thuranni assassin is just too intimidating for words. (or at least the way I portray one; courtesy Rich Wulf and Heirs of Ash!)

Specifically, I think the Least Mark options are pretty fantastic. To a one, quite useful.

09-17-07, 05:11 PM I love it for that splash of magic. In a short-lived game I made an Orien fighter, made all the more useful by otherwise being a slow-moving tanker type. In the one combat we did, a goblin was about to get away with a kidnapping target while two more blocked the players.

*Bamf!* KO-ed the kidnapper while the other two goblins were shocked and now trapped between a fighter in full plate on one side and the rest of the PCs in other.

The houses are too Feudalistic for my tastes. I will call them the downpressers.

Lucian, my hexblade started with Cause Fear. After he took the Child of Khyber PrC, he moved on to Summon Swarm.
He wears a greatcoat, and the swarm just kind of crawls out from underneath it, children of the night style. It was either that or vomit it out.

I look at his Aberrant Mark as a power and an affliction. He has a love/hate...well, more of an 'it's useful/hate' relationship with it.

And he is getting used to being shunned/judged etc. by some people, and tolerated by others.
