If so do they work like the regular planes? I was thinking maybe they could orbit like the regular ones but when they are counterminous it would only affect a limited area of Eberron rather than the whole planet

I'm not sure what a demiplane is, but I've never read the term in Eberron books, so officially no, but do what you want. :)

It's been mentioned that Khyber acts as a demiplane.

The venerated HellCow did posit the idea of various Demi-planes being in existence within Khyber. A mix of Eberron Underdark with various floating "worlds" that aren't out there with the planes, but aren't truly part of Eberron either.

But that was in a "converting a generic adventure to Eberron" and more of a "Abyssal layer" then an out-n-out demiplane.

But there's nothing official been said that I've seen.

And of course, any old 17th level Psion (Or certain clerics) can wander by with a Genesis power/spell to make one.

Though given the rarity of such high level characters, created demiplanes are probably similarly rare.

Here's a fun idea. Just as the planes wax and wane around Eberron, sometimes demiplanes from other cosmologies come close to the etherial/astral plane.

Though few to none stay for more than a few years, you can still visit them if you know how.

If the 13 planes are planets around the sun of Eberron, these things could be compared to comets.

(Or big dinosaur destroying asteroids if that's your gig.)

Well, if the major planes orbit Eberron similarly to planets orbiting a star, then maybe demiplanes are like smaller celestial bodies. Larger ones, such as an outsider's personal domain, may act like moons that orbit a specific plane. If you like the idea of them becoming coterminous, then say that once out of every X times the plane becomes coterminous, so does the demiplane (for example, a demiplane created and ruled by a powerful balor becomes coterminous with Eberron every fifth time Fernia does).

Smaller ones (pocket planes, like those created by rope trick) could be like asteroids or comets. They might never have any impact on the material plane. If you want, however, you could have them collide with Eberron like meteors. The death of a demiplane, even just a pocket plane, could have serious effects.
