Hey.

A 1. level artificer wants to create a scroll. He wants to have several version of the same spell on a scrolls. Do you have to roll two UMD checks for each spell on the scroll or just 2 for the entire scroll?

If you have to roll for each spell can you make a scroll with 5 working spells and 2 non working or is the entire effort wasted if 1 spell fails to be written correctly.

As far as I understand it, the ability to have multiple spells on a single scroll is just a convienence and device for bumping the value of treasure. You still pay the same amount of XP & material costs no matter how many spells you cram onto a single scroll. So I'd treat each spell as a separate scroll when crafting, meaning that it's possible to have a section of a multi-spell scroll covered in white-out. ;)

Personally, I never put more than one spell per scroll anyway. Smacks too much of putting your eggs all in one basket (I'm paranoid about sunders and failing saves with a natural 1). The only advantage that I can think of is that is saves you the move action of drawing the next scroll. Because any artificer worth his salt has all his scrolls in a bandoleer or similar item for easy access. :)

I've always assumed 1 roll per neccessary spell, per day, on any item creation as an artificer.

So, assuming he could scribe all three spells onto the scroll in one day, he would make three UMD checks (one for each spell) and each successful check would result in scribing a working spell. If he failed a roll, he'd get the last ditch roll for that spell, if that also fails, then that specific spell would not work, and the cost of materials and xp for that spell would be lost.
