Best Artificer Weapon? [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-14-07, 06:59 PM I probably should have asked my DM, but I felt in my heart that I didn't need to...

I used the Arbalester homunculi from Magic of Eberron, but instead of using a masterwork light crossbow, I used a masterwork double crossbow from some Dragon Magazine. My Arbalester uses his actions to reload the crossbw (a full round action, or two move actions... not sure).

If its legal, then its an awesome weapon, especially when combined with the Pesonal Weapon Augmentation "X Bane".

Thoughts?

It isn't. The arbalester fires on its own, so you're not enhancing a "personal" weapon.

06-15-07, 09:20 AM Yeah, you can't fire your Arbalester like a normal crossbow.

My artificer uses an Arbalester and a normal crossbow, which basically accomplishes the same thing you're trying here (firing two bolts per round). However, it costs more money and XP because he has to upgrade both his own crossbow and his Arbalester separately. Plus he has to use more infusions to infuse both crossbows with Bane X.

And shouldn't this thread be in the Combat, Arms & Armor section?

06-16-07, 07:54 PM Your heart lied to you. If it's not OK with your DM then it doesn't matter if it is legal by RAW. If the masterwork crossbow is not light it will take 2 full rounds to reload, and as stated above personal weapon augmentation only works on you. Not a bad weapon, unless it dies and you take damage for losing a humoniculis, but not even close to the best. A heavy repeating crossbow is much better.

02-07-08, 07:31 AM with the Improved Homunculus feat you can give the Arbalester the store infusion ability, then store the Personal Weapon Augmentation. Bam once per day your Arbalester can infuse its xbow with X Bane.

Stop building homonculi and Take Craft Construct and build Elder Eidilons from Lords of madness book. Its a template that allows you to turn almost any Creature with +2 your Artificer level in HD into a Golem. The earliest you can get it I believe is 6th level but the over all effect can make most Animal companions seem down right push overs. Nothing quite like building a creature that is effectively more powerful then any of the current members of the party. After your done with the first make another one. There is more then one kind of Construct that is like this I don't know all the sources though.
