Can artificers craft eternal wands, without the help of an arcane spellcaster? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I'm wondering: eternal wands specifically can only be made of arcane spells of 3rd level or lower. Artificers cannot supply arcane spells through their item creation ability: they only supply generic, neither-arcane-nor-divine spells. Does this mean that artificers can't craft eternal wands on their own, and that the spell component must be supplied by a wizard or somesuch?

Nothing about eternal wands makes me want to keep artificers from making them. I think they put the "arcane" there just so you couldn't have one of those long-duration divine buffs in your eternal wand.

an artificer can provide an arcane spell (with a scroll if neccessary)

but there useage of umd lets them fake the spells so they should be able to. The 'arcane spell only' means that you can't create with divine spells.

Does any one else feel that that is a bad rule and allows divine eternal wands in thier campaign?

The issue has never come up, honestly. Eternal wands haven't played any role in any of the campaigns I've ever run or any that I've played in. I can understand why an eternal wand that casts divine spells would be a bad idea though.

It takes away from the sense of awe in things religious when you can have a stick that essentially performs what would amount to a little miracle* on a daily basis. Eternal divine items would be more properly suited to articles of the faith. Things like altars cloths and candlesticks that act as divine versions of an Eternal wand would be more appropriate in regard to flavor.

*not to be confused with Miracle, the divine form of Wish.

Not that I am disagreeing with you but if you can make a cure-stick why not a eternal cure-stick?

Flavor aside, I don't see why you couldn't. Do I see a rule zero being levied against that restriction in your game?

You Can Infact Make A Cure Light Wounds Eternal Wand,
Because the spell appears on the bards Spell list so it would be concidered Arcane for the wand Preq.

Cleric has Craft Wondrous Item. Cleric wants to make an eternal wand of Protection from Evil. Cleric can't do it, because his Protection from Evil is a divine spell, and thus not an arcane spell.

Wizard has Craft Wondrous Item. Wizard wants to make an eternal wand of Protection from Evil. Wizard can do it, because his Protection from Evil is an arcane spell.

Artificer has Craft Wondrous Item. Artificer wants to make an eternal wand of Protection from Evil. Artificer... doesn't cast spells at all. He can, however, make a DC 21 use magic device check to emulate being able to cast Protection from Evil. However, he doesn't fake divine PfE or arcane PfE. He just fakes PfE without paying attention to any of that arcane/divine stuff. Doesn't it seem, then, that since the artificer's emulation isn't arcane, that the artificer can't actually craft an eternal wand?

Artificiers can craft anything they have the creation feats for their class level has to be twice the spell level to emulate it.
