| Rauric09-28-07, 09:32 AM | I remember Hellcow mentioning that there are other beings living in the Plane of Dreams. What beings could be living there and are they more powerful than the Quori? |
| The Ubbergeek09-28-07, 11:40 AM | Idea; Something like the Hordelings of the core D&D cosmology - basic,. mutable beings of the plane. If you wish, living dreams, chaotic, eerie, mutant. |
| Amaril09-28-07, 01:43 PM | Hellcow had suggested in his personal opinion that IF he were to place gem dragons in Eberron, he'd have them exist in Dal Quor. |
| JulesCARV09-28-07, 03:07 PM | Dreamfane (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psb/20070711a&page=1)? |
| Hellcow09-28-07, 05:53 PM | IF he were to place gem dragons in Eberron, he'd have them exist in Dal Quor. And Xoriat and Shavarath and Syrania... lest I be accused of "everything psionic goes in Dal Quor". |
| Amaril09-28-07, 05:57 PM | And Xoriat and Shavarath and Syrania... lest I be accused of "everything psionic goes in Dal Quor". Of course. ;) I was only addressing the plane in question. Instead I'll accuse you of making everything psionic extraplanar. :P |
| Hellcow09-28-07, 06:03 PM | Regarding the original poster's question, some non-quori inhabitants of DQ are provided in the "Living Nightmares" article I wrote for Dragon (I forget which issue, but you can find it on my website), and I'm sure people here will have other ideas. In terms of "Are they more powerful than the quori", the quori are supposed to be the dominant species of Dal Quor. The heart of Dal Quor is shaped by il-Lashtavar, and the quori are the extensions of il-Lashtavar - the angels of the spirit of the plane, if you will. So their dominance of the plane isn't in question: they are the first children of the plane itself. HOWEVER, it's the nature of Dal Quor that the fringes of the realm are shaped by mortal minds, both individual dreams and the collective unconsciousness of species. It's possible that in such a region you find a creature more powerful than a typical quori; one example already out there is the draconic eidolon in The Gates of Night. All sorts of things can be found in the fringes of Dal Quor. But the quori remain the dominant force of the plane as a whole, and as long as il-Lashtavar exists, that's not likely to change. |
| Hellcow09-28-07, 06:06 PM | Instead I'll accuse you of making everything psionic extraplanar. :P Ah, but that I'll accept - with the caveat that the planes in question are integrally tied to every living creature. That's essentially the point; "extraplanar" is all a matter of perspective. Xoriat is a source of aberrations - but it also touches every human, dwarf, and even warforged. |
| DragoonDarkfire09-28-07, 06:57 PM | So the planes are a mental manifestation of power? Like Fernia exists because people BELIEVE it exists or KNOW it exists? |
| Amaril09-28-07, 07:40 PM | Not quite. The planes are naturally tied to Eberron. Dal Quor is shaped, not created, by mortals' dreams. Thelanis, it is believed, is shaped by peoples' beliefs as well. But the planes are not created by those beliefs. If everyone suddenly stopped believing in them, they'd all still exist and would all still influence Eberron through manifest zones and planar cycles. |
| Amaril09-28-07, 07:45 PM | Regarding the original poster's question, some non-quori inhabitants of DQ are provided in the "Living Nightmares" article I wrote for Dragon (I forget which issue, but you can find it on my website), and I'm sure people here will have other ideas. I was going to mention that same article, but I was feeling lazy at the time. I actually liked the ideas presented there. They meshed well with some of the ideas presented in Heroes of Horror for adventuring in a dreamscape. Ah, but that I'll accept - with the caveat that the planes in question are integrally tied to every living creature. That's essentially the point; "extraplanar" is all a matter of perspective. Xoriat is a source of aberrations - but it also touches every human, dwarf, and even warforged. That's pretty much how I see it. Any word on the proposition for Planes of Eberron articles in Dragon or Dungeon? On a somewhat related note, has WotC written off Dragonshards as a free series of articles? Did they publish all of the articles you had submitted? If not, what can we expect to see in the future? |
| ZeroSD09-28-07, 09:43 PM | Eberron and the planes seem to affect each other in both direction about equally, they overlap and cross over a little but are still pretty seperate, unlike planescape where the material world decides everything. Any word on the proposition for Planes of Eberron articles in Dragon or Dungeon? Dungeon and Dragon ended last month. There's a digital replacement which might. |
| Amaril09-28-07, 10:01 PM | Dungeon and Dragon ended last month. There's a digital replacement which might. Yes, and the digital replacement is called Dragon and Dungeon respectively. Keith has mentioned the possibility of writing articles covering the planes of Eberron for those online articles. Trust me, I'm very in tune with what's going on with D&DI. In case you're wondering, next week will be the first article: Ecology of the Death Knight. |
| Hellcow09-28-07, 10:33 PM | So the planes are a mental manifestation of power? Like Fernia exists because people BELIEVE it exists or KNOW it exists? No. Shavarath is the purified principle of conflict. According to the lords of the Eternal Battle, any struggle touches Shavarath. Every flame is a spark of Fernia (which is why, during a coterminous phase, you can potentially move through flame TO Fernia). All those who dream do so on Dal Quor. The planes are pure concepts; Eberron is the plane where all of these forces come together. And most living creatures have innate connections to Xoriat, Dal Quor, Shavarath, and others - which is stronger among those who are especially creative, inspired (or Inspired), or otherwise have a strong connection to the concept of the plane. As for DI planar articles, no news yet. |
| Kreistor209-29-07, 08:57 AM | I think one of the most disappointing oversights is the lack of a Planar Guide for Eberron. It is the one sourcebook I have seen the most calls for. Unlike the nations, which all have decent multi-page descriptions, and in the end really aren't much different from any other nations in fantasy, the Planes of Eberron are significantly different and have very little written about them. A few are pathetically populated, and are in need of major creature creations to make them a challenge. I held off sending my PC's to the planes for as long as possible. Now I have had to, and risk any further refinements from disagreeing with what I have had to do. |
| ZeroSD09-29-07, 10:25 PM | Trust me, I'm very in tune with what's going on with D&DI. I stand corrected, I hadn't heard all of that. |

| DestinyNova10-01-07, 12:24 PM | I remember Hellcow mentioning that there are other beings living in the Plane of Dreams. What beings could be living there and are they more powerful than the Quori? The Dream of a Perfect Tomorrow? The Silver Flame Utopia? That missing charge from a Ring of Wishes that a PC wore to sleep because he was afraid that thieves might steal it? |
