About a month ago I started the thread Adventure: Schemas of the Dragonmarks (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=844942) which is the backstory of an adventure I drive my players through.

To make it short, it's kind of The Rod in Seven Parts. My players are tracking down 13 schemas, for 13 dragonmarks, once combined together allow to craft an artifact of important power.

The Artifact is a project of the Twelve that would grant dragonmarked characters great power, and extend the reach of possibilities for the Dragonmarked Houses.

Each schema could do a different thing, and adding them up would provide additional powers to a dragonmarked character. Once all thirteen schemas are combined, they form some sort of plan to create an Artifact. I have no clue what sort of power the schemas could individually do and what powers they could accumulate when you add them up.

The Artifact would naturally do something greater than the schemas.

The only idea I have is that the Artifact could produce upon creation a magical location similar to the Spellward of Arcane Might (DMG2 p.247). The Spellward enables caster that draw power from it to cast once per day a 3rd level or lower spell that normally has a casting time of 1 standard action as a swift action instead (a swift action is like a free action but you are only allowed one free action per round) The magical location created by the artifact could enable dragonmarked characters to improve the use of their dragonmark abilities, either by giving additional uses of the spell-like abilities or by appliying some metamagic feat on them (either Empower or Maximize).

Anyone cares to help?

Thank you!

I would say double all numerical qualities of the dragon marks ofanyone the artifact effects (whether that be by wearing it or being near it.

IF you had a siberys mark of making, it would double the times you could use it per day, the amount of stuff you could make with one casting, caster level, range (If the range is touch make it short).

This artifact could be a wearable item, or an item that effects all allies within X feet, or all people with the same dragonbmark within X feet, ect.

So, generally a magic location grants a feat or feat equivilant.

I'd do the following.

If the character is a non-dragon marked race, it attunes them to the power of the dragon marks, allowing them to constantly detect dragonmarks withing a certain distance, and by concentrating determine the exact type (abberant, making, warding, etc) and power level.

If the character is from a dragon marked race, and has no dragon mark, they can choose the previous power, or gain a true dragonmark they qualify for of thier choice. (see plot point below)

If the character has a dragonmark (true or abberant), it upgrades one step.
Least -> Lesser -> Greater -> Siberys(possibly)
If you already have a siberys dragon mark, you gain a single use of a different spell (something new, but themed appropriately for the dragon mark)

Plot point ANY dragonmark the qualify for. Including allowing elves to take the MoD. This could be used as a lead in to a new adventure set, as the reward from the previous quest becomes a problem. As Erandis d'Vol figues out it's a method to restore her bloodlines mark, and suddenly you are beset from all sides by high power undead and emerald claw operatives.
