Welcome!

Dragonmarks are a big part of Eberron so I have a few questions:

1. What dragonmark do you like/have at the moment

2. What level? (Least, Lesser, Greater, or Siberys)

3. Where is it on your body? Arm? Leg? Chest? Back?

and why!

Let the dragonmarks begin!

Im a 15lvl artificer! I wanted other feats then I decided take the PrC to make me much better in my field

Aberrant Mark of Produce Flame
Least
Left palm
First Level Human Rogue. And my feats were to give me extra uses per day, and extra ways to use it. It sounded like fun.

I've got a couple of characters with Marks, currently one with the Aberrant Mark of Cause Fear, and one with the Least and Lesser Orien marks. I tend to favor the back for location.

1. Orien
2. Least
3. Just over his heart
The house just seemed so cool to me. And the PrC from Dragonmarked makes it a GREAT ability to have (Dimentional Leap).

The Greater Mark of Making, upper right arm. (http://www.bossythecow.com/tattoo2.htm)
Moody Loner

Aberrant Least Mark of Shield, left palm - the infamous (in our group) "Cursed Hand".

Second-level Warlock, in case you're wondering what the big deal with shield is.

Left hand seems to be pretty popular for Aberrants so far.
Subtle Knife

My Character - Lucius d'Cannith ir'Wynarn
1. Mark of Making
2. Least
3. Left Hand/Wrist
I picked it because I want my Rogue/Artificer to be able to take the Cannith Wand Adept prestige class.

My Wife's character - Maryah d'Lyrandar
1. Mark of Storm
2. Currently Least, but intend to progress to Greater Mark
3. Right Ankle
Her Ranger/Bard is planning on really exploring the full extent of her dragonmark, taking the Dragonmarked Heir, Windwright Captain, and Storm Sentry prestige classes. But in truth, it is our baby son who holds patent on the "Gust of Wind" ability...

Of these tattoos (http://www.bossythecow.com/tattoos.htm), most are real. The only one I'm not sure about is C.A. Suleiman's tattoo, which may be one of the temporary tattoos handed our at GenCon '03. If you set aside CAS's tattoo, that means that of the six known people with actual dragonmarks, half have the Mark of Making.

If anyone else reading this has a Dragonmark tattoo, send a picture to us at Bossy the Cow!

I once played a wizard from Phirlan (sp?) She had lesser, least, and greater (She took the Dragonmark PrC). Her mark was on her chest, she would always wear low cut shirts to show it off.

In the game I am running, we have a rogue with the least mark of Finding, on the character's back. (New game, so everyone is level one) When someone else runs, I am probably going to do a swashbuckler with the mark of storm over one of her eyes. (Think Fox from Gargoyles) Why? Because I like the concept of flying ships and the Storm Sentry prestige class looked like it would be a lot of fun. That one will go at least to lesser, (with extra feats) possibly to greater.

Because teleporting is always useful? Another reason might be the truely kick-ass PRC for Orien marks in Dragonmarked - the Blade of Orien.

True, but is that JUST why? I would think people would want to choose more on flavor then just being useful.

Well, speaking only for myself, I like house Orien because of the western flavor they have. If you think about it, what with the lightening rail, horse couriers, and wagon trains, house Orien are the cowboys of Eberron. That's just me though.

That's the same reason I like House Lyrandar. The whole airship thing inspires both images of Errol Flynn and the red line growing on the map from the Indiana Jones movies. Which is always followed by either a really awesome fight or breathtaking location.

Least Aberrant Mark (mage hand)
Left upper torso (easily hidden)

I wanted a mark, but didn't want to be tied to any house. None of the ECS aberrant marks were quite what I wanted for my rogue, so I begged my DM for mage hand, and he allowed it. Turned out to be a good choice, as I used my mark in the first session! I used mage hand to press a pressure plate as I removed the McGuffin that was weighing it down and replaced it with an equally heavy fake. :D

Anywho. I don't have any dragonmarks, as I am not a crazy that thinks D&D is real. I leave that to those Mazes and Monsters guys. ;)

My characters though, lets see, there has been one with an abberant mark of flaming hands, one with the mark of the sentinal, one with an abberant mark of cause fear, one I'm working on will have the mark of storms, and one thats on the back burner would have the mark of warding.

The spot above the primary knot of the pattern looks a bit like the least mark of sentinal, But the outline more closely resembles a greater mark of storm...

Level of complexety points to a lesser mark...

I've double checked the book a few times. I have to say the lesser mark of death.

RIGHT ON THE MONEY DRAGOM GOOD JOB
i figured someone would get it
i actually choose that mark cause i like the design of it, not because of what it is otherwise id have chosen the greater or syberis mark
i also thought about an aberrant mark, i kind of like the red & black color a little better, but i prefer the MOD design, hell i even thougth about coloring this in like an aberant mark then decided not to, i figured i might as well stay true to it

1. What dragonmark do you like/have at the moment

Mark of Passage

2. What level? (Least, Lesser, Greater, or Siberys)

Current:
Least: Dimention Leap, and Dragonmarked Prodigy: Benign Teleport.

Planned:
Lesser: Dimention Door
Greater: Teleport

Also Orien Battle Stride, and Mighty Dragonmark...

3. Where is it on your body? Arm? Leg? Chest? Back?

Left shoulderblade.

Why?
I'l admite part of it is because of the Blade of Orien, but that's not the entire reason.

I had ignored House Orien for awhile not really giving them a lot of thought, mostly because I just plain don't play human characters I tend to play dwarves, gnomes, halflings, and such. However when I read their section in Dragonmarked I really came to like them, they seemed like generally good people. This is also why I came to like Ghallanda, and Valadis while reading Dragonmarked, but they didn't capture my imagination like Orien did.

They're a business, sure, but they seemed in a way more open. Part of this probably stems from the passage in Dragonmarked about them accepting half-elven and half-orcs as full members of the family even though they'll never possess a mark. House O isn't concerned about 'keeping the blood pure. Outside of Lyrander they may be the most traveled house, but instead of creating factions reading Dragonmarked made it seem like one big extended family. In my mind I pictured House Enclaves being orderly and businesslike in the front... but in the back there being a bunkhouse full of teamsters, couriors, railmen, etc swapping stories, getting news from one another about the well being and health of various family members, playing cards, goofing off, and probably a lot of kids running around. A sense that even though everyone is so disconnected that there's still a family cohesion. Even more remarkable after the day of mourning when the continant (and the rail lines) were literally divided.

Another part of it might have been the resonance with my own life. I love to travel in real life and I love being places I've never been before, and while my family is geographically spread apart we keep track of one another fairly well. I don't know it just resonated with me.

The Blade of Orien, being as badass as it is (kudos Keith) was just icing on the cake. I whipped up a d'marked Human Scout who will eventually be less of a 'Blade' and more of a Bow of Orien.

I think I answered that one in a little too much detail but eh.

Two Characters:

Greater Mark of Handling, augmented by Feral Mark and the feat that gives an additional Greater Dragonmark ability - On his face - for purely intimidation purposes. For when the Magebred, Warbeast, Flying, Dragonbreed, Tiger he rides to battle on isn't enough.

Greater Abberant Dragonmark, augmented by Powerful Dragonmark - Chill Touch, Vampiric Touch, and Slay Living are the powers. On top of that he's a beguiller/warlock so nobody trusts him BEFORE they learn about the mark on his back.
Sivis

03-14-07, 06:47 PM
I think mine is PRETTY easy to find out.

Why?:

1. You cant do anything without a Sivis's Arcane Mark. ID papers? Yep you need one. Letters of Credit? You bet'cha! ect...

2. Gnomes are smart, sly, and they can get anything....even if it invovles BLACKMAIL! MWHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

3. BECAUSE GNOMES ARE KOOL WITH A CAPITAL KA!

lesser dragonmark (lesser globe), least (mage armor & prot. f/m arrows)

mark is located on his chest

i became a dragonmarked character because when we started the campaign no one was doing anything w/ an Eberron flavor.... so i did. At the start of the game, we ended up with 3 dragonmarked characters (me being one of them), i'm the only one who progressed his dragonmark. The rest are a bunch of sorry ass powergamers.....that's all i got to say about that!!!!

My most recent marked character is a halfling inn inspector with a Lesser Mark of Hospitality.
About a year ago I ran a few session in which the players based their group around a Cyran inn that had been destroyed in the Last War. As such, you had the marked Ghallanda innkeeper, determined to raise enough money to buy a new inn; the warforged former bouncer; the formally drunken priest in search of redemption; the independent Phiarlan wizard seeking to build his own network of contacts; and a few others.

Lesser Mark of Shadow on the right forearm.

The character is a Cyran elf (Ranger 6)not tied to either elf DM house. He kept his Least Mark covered, but is finding it harder to do now that it has increased. Another member of the party is from House Phiarlan, but does not yet know. He wil probably join Phiarlan and go for the Shadow Hunter prestige class in Dragonmarked.

I am running a game with all 'marked characters.

Lesser Mark of Scribing - Gnome Archivist 7
Lesser Mark of Sentinal - Human Fighter 7
Least Mark of Handling - Human Ranger 6
Least Mark of Detection - Half-elf Sorcerer 6
Lesser Mark of Storm - Half-elf Bard 7
Least Mark of Shadow - Elf Rogue 7 (Thuranni)

Well I'm currently DMing a Sharn game and the PCs were targetted by a few House Tarkanan assassins. I had a really cool idea for one of the attacker's abberant mark however.

It's a least Aberrant mark of Burning Hands, but the mark is split in two, one half on each of his palms. When he puts his hands together so the "heel" of his palm and his thumbs are side by side, the pattern is complete. It's not technically necessary for him to activate it (spell-like abilities not needing somatic components) but I liked the imagery.

He actually survived the encounter and I think I might have him show up again with a bigger Abberant mark stretching down his forearms (which he'll activate by putting his forearms together side by side like in Constantine).

Actually they were required to have different marks. They are a hand-picked team for the Acquisitions Directorate of the Twelve. There were a number of restrictions I placed on thir character creation which I made up for by giving them the Least Mark and Favored in House for free at 1st level.
Salathiel

03-22-07, 12:27 AM
My character (like many others, apparently) has a Lesser Mark of Passage, which is located at the top of his breastbone/base of his throat. It's easy to undo a button or two when he wants the mark seen, or to button up all the way and hide it when necessary as well.

I picked Orien for many of the reasons already named. Teleportation is *very* useful, and it gives the character a nice gimmick that no one else in the party can match. Also, I liked the feel of the house; they seem to see themselves as honest service providers with a healthy respect for wanderlust. When I first created the character, I didn't know a lot about what direction the DM would be taking the campaign. I felt that Orien gave me the most flexibility in tying in whatever came up back into house business. (That is, everything that an adventurer faces somehow relates to getting someone or something from Point A to Point B, and my job is to be in place so that Orien can capitalize off of it as much as possible.)

How about the 15 ranks in the skills? Ranks, not bonuses to rolls, meaning you need to be level 12 in order to be able to pour 12+3 ranks into any skill.

1. What dragonmark do you like/have at the moment
I'm about to start running a Savage Tide Adventure Path campaign which includes a PC who bears the Mark of Passage and his unmarked elder brother, also a PC.

2. What level? (Least, Lesser, Greater, or Siberys)
Least, since we're starting at first level.

3. Where is it on your body? Arm? Leg? Chest? Back?
The palm of his hand. If he takes the Lesser and Greater Marks of Passage, the mark will expand up over the rest of his hand and up the arm.

and why!
The brothers have a backstory conflict - their parents were unmarked members of House Orien who managed to establish their own business providing services to members of the house, a business based on the father's sorcerous abilities.

The elder brother never demonstrated any talent for sorcery or magic of any kind, while the younger brother did - and when the younger brother manifested the Least Mark of Passage, that sealed the deal; he became the all-but-open favourite of their parents, which eventually drove the elder brother to leave home and seek an independent career as a mercenary.

The younger brother, meanwhile, had been so coddled by his parents that he never learned to accept responsibility, so when their expectations that he would take on the family business got to be too much for him, he decided to follow his brother's example and become an adventurer. The brothers have just run into each other again in the city of Sasserine, the point of origin for the Savage Tide Adventure Path, when the campaign begins.

The players in question decided together that their characters would come from House Orien because the teleportation abilities of the Mark of Passage are thematically symbolic of the conflict between the PCs - teleportation is a flashy, powerful ability which clearly sets you apart from the people around you, and it's also symbolic of the relative freedom that the younger brother was granted as a result of his sorcerous talents and having manifested a dragonmark.

The elder brother, in contrast, felt stifled by the expectations of his parents that, without magic or a dragonmark, he could never be anything other than a bureaucrat or other functionary within House Orien.

So, that's why they chose the Mark of Passage.

If I got a dragonmark tattoo - and I'm thinking about it - it would be the Lesser Mark of Sentinel. I like the look, and what it signifies.

Least Mark of Storm (planning on adding Lesser and Greater)
half-elf swashbuckler 4/storm sentry 1

Why? Because swashbuckling is awesome and I really like the feel of House Lyrandar, and oh yeah, because being able to electrify the warforged monk's hands as weapons is kinda really neat. :D

The Greater Mark of Making, upper right arm. (http://www.bossythecow.com/tattoo2.htm)
That is too cool.

Hmmm... I'll prolly get called a heretic or worse(fangirl) for this, but I'll do it in memory of my last dragonmarked character.

1. The Mark of Death
2. Greater
3. Left side of face(covers most of it)

Why?
Cause the DM wanted to try out his homebrew Mark of Death and I was the only elf.
