| OgreBane9905-31-07, 02:23 PM | I just finished up reading the "Aberrant Mark" and "War of the Mark" sections in the Dragonmarked supplemental book, and it described truly powerful Aberrant Marked people (Tarkanan and the Lady of the Plague) as having the power to "destroy a city" (as they did in Sharn). So I was thinking.... Could one take the Heir of Siberys prestige class and apply it to an aberrant mark? The way I see it so far is that the Greater Dragonmark (aberrant or normal) usually manifest 4th - 5th level spells, and the siberys marks manifest 7th - 8th level spells. Would 7th or 8th level offensive spells be broken if they were gained as spell-like abilities of a Heir of Siberys Aberrant Mark? Anyone tried this out or made a class themself? I found a recent Dragonshard article by Keith Baker here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20070416a), but it only goes to the Greater Aberrant Mark. I'm looking more for a Siberys-power level Aberrant Mark. :plotting: |
| Ukkic05-31-07, 04:16 PM | Being as the aberrant marks are supposedly tied to more sinister forces, how bout calling it a khyber mark, or the Heir of Khyber (if its a PrC). Sounds like a good idea to me, but it would be really rare after the war of the mark. ~Ukkic |

Seems like as good a name as could be. I do like the idea, and it's no more "broken" than the original PrC. All you'd be doing is swapping the spell-like ability. I agree with Ukkic that it should be a very rare (perhaps unique) individual that manifests this type of mark, whether a PC or NPC. It's probably best left for an NPC, unless you have a player who's really up to the challenge of doing this justice. (That's just my opinion, though). An NPC with an Aberrant Mark this powerful would be a great BBEG--a potentially great threat. |
| Darakhoranon05-31-07, 05:41 PM | So I was thinking.... Could one take the Heir of Siberys prestige class and apply it to an aberrant mark? By RAW: no. But I, like Ukkic and tallric_kruush, donīt see any real problems with changing a few details of the Heir of Syberis PrC (and renaming it, of course). Just make sure that your "new" PrC is rare - and be prepared for the "WANTED DEAD, NOT ALIVE" posted practically everywhere on Khorvaire (and donīt forget the Dreaming Dark and Daelkyr whoīd certainly like to "talk" to you or the "SWAT"-Teams from Argonessen hunting you)... |
| Rekko05-31-07, 07:44 PM | As everyone yet has said, the Aberrants are a great adventuring string, so I'd likely see some rare and powerful heirs of Tarkanan. The Child of Khyber is already a great PrC based on the Dragonmark Heir. To tap in the power of the "Siberys" Mark, you could either add a few levels to add the Improved Greater Aberrant Mark class ability, the Khyber Mark ability and the Improved Khyber Mark ability. I know that the Heir of Siberys is forbidden to dragonmarked heirs, but you could see the Khyber Mark as the fully developped Aberrant Mark. As already said, you could also twist the Heir of Siberys PrC into the Heir of Khyber PrC. ------ donīt forget the Dreaming Dark and Daelkyr whoīd certainly like to "talk" to you or the "SWAT"-Teams from Argonessen hunting you... Why would all these characters want to seek the children of Khyber? I don't see the links between them. ------ You know, I always wanted to see the come back of the Mark of Death, so I've always thought it would be cool that the elves bearing an aberrant dragonmark would be distant relatives of the Vol and Phiarlan families. I'd see Erandis d'Vol interested in the Aberrants. Maybe she would be able to revive her lineage or maybe the Khyber Mark, or one of them, would be the all-powerful Mark of Death reborned. |

| Cifer06-02-07, 08:45 AM | Why would all these characters want to seek the children of Khyber? I don't see the links between them. Dreaming Dark: Because they're somewhat interested in Dragonmarks - they don't exist in Sarlona. Further, powerful abberants with their often... disorganized minds might be a great asset in the destabilization of Khorvaire or a great hindrance in establishing the rule of the Inspired there. Argonessen: The dragons are the specialists on the draconic prophecy. Funny thing is, I don't recall anything being said on their precise relationship with aberrant marks. I could easily imagine they're considered an abomination like Vol was. Daelkyr: Because the warm fishes eat yellow bicycles when the shoe fins skin rooftops. 'Nuff said. |
| OgreBane9906-02-07, 03:43 PM | Thanks for the replies folks. I'm gonna work on the PrC today. The Child of Khyber: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20070416a If you would have read my OP, you'd notice that I already had a link to this class. As I said above, I wanted aberrant marks that verged on the power of Siberys. The Child of Khyber only goes to the Greater Aberrant Mark. |
| OgreBane9906-02-07, 05:05 PM | Posted the class here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=12585084#post12585084). Let me know what you think. :lightbulb |
| tallric_kruush06-02-07, 10:44 PM | At a glance, I like it. I don't really have the time right now to review all the spell-like options, but it looks good. I'm also glad you went with "Heir of Tarkanan" for the name; but perhaps I'm just biased to my own recommendation.:P It makes much more sense for the role you wanted the PrC to play. |
| Darakhoranon06-03-07, 01:07 PM | Not too bad - but where did you get different strengths of SYBERIS-marks? As far as I know, least, lesser and greater marks are only the "normal" dragonmarks - the syberis-marks are the ultimate expression of the true marks. |
| OgreBane9906-03-07, 01:30 PM | They are the ultimate true dragonmark. The only thing I was saying was that the Siberys marks spell-like abilities varied in range from 8th - 9th, where as the Tarkanan marks vary in strength fromm 7th - 8th. I was saying that the Siberys marks are much more restrictive on what you can "choose", so I lowered the spell-like ability level by one for the Tarkanan marks cause you can choose what you want instead of being restricted on your race. |
| Darakhoranon06-03-07, 01:49 PM | * Special: A character who has the Least, Lesser, Greater or Siberys Dragonmark feat cannot enter this prestige class. Also, once a character gains any levels in this class, he can't adopt the dragonmark heir PrC. The bold part is the one I donīt understand. IS there a "Greater Mark of Syberis"? The only marks with differing strengths I know of are the "normal" dragonmarks (and maybe Aberrant marks, but I donīt have that book). Doesnīt really matter. That PrC looks fine - but every being that takes it should better be prepared to be on top of the "Hunt down"-list of several power groups (as I already mentioned). |

Are you missing the or part in the description? Basically you can't take the class if you have the least, lesser, greater dragonmark or the siberys dragonmark. You can't manifest two or more dragonmarks. Make sense now? I understand there isn't a "siberys dragonmark" feat, but I thought it was understood that you couldn't have another dragonmark already and take the class. |
| Darakhoranon06-06-07, 06:05 AM | Ah, now I see. I seem to have completely overlooked this little word "or"... Yes, now it makes perfect sense. But still, every being that takes levels in this class will almost certainly be hunted by several power groups. |
| TiwazTyrsfist06-16-07, 08:37 PM | My personal plan for the eberron game I'm getting ready to run is a bit odd, but here it is. Aberrant marks aren't the marks of Khyber, that's a lie perpetrated by the dragon marked houses during the war of the mark. The twelve basic dragon marks (least to greater) are the marks of Eberron. The twelve marks of Syberis are truely marks of Syberis, empowered by that dragon. Servants of Khyber have recently started a campaign to empower their mortal servants with the power of their draconic lord. Khyber Mark is both a feat AND a fiendish graft. Through a difficult, and increadibly painful, process, fiendish servants of Khyber first remove a portion of the subjects skin, in the patern of the appropriate syberis mark, then graft on a section of dark purple green skin taken from some unknown type of fiend. Amoung the few who even know of the Khyber marks, there is speculation that the skin comes from Khyber itself, still surviving, trapped beneath Eberron. A Khyber mark grants the use of a single powerful spell, related to the dragon mark it is associated with/parodies. Examples, A Khyber Mark of 'Healing' grants either Mass Harm (like mass heal, only damage rather than healing) or Power Word Kill. A Khyber Mark of Protection could grant Imprison. Things like that. |
