Would you let your cleric players take the hunger domain if they revere the Blood of Vol? Why? Thank you for your contributions. Rekko |
| Neutronium_Dragon07-01-07, 11:50 PM | The Hunger domain fits with the Keeper's general greed and "hunger for souls" in the common portrayals. (Dark Six adherents of the Keeper have a different take on things, of course.) It doesn't really seem to fit with the Blood of Vol, at least not with the common worshipper or priest. It might be more appropriate for one of the higher ups though, like a vampire or a Thief of Life who has more of an appreciation of that sort of "hunger". |
| OctaviusIII07-02-07, 02:52 AM | I'm actually somewhat surprised it's not granted to the Devourer too, given that he shares the hunger portfolio with the Keeper. Edit: And to answer your question, which I now realize I didn't do, I wouldn't give it to Blood of Vol Seekers. BoV's portfolio is undeath, immortality, blood, destiny, and obedience, without any mention of hunger, greed, or any sort of desperate striving, so I'd rule that the domain is inappropriate. |
| Darakhoranon07-02-07, 04:56 AM | The Hunger domain also available for clerics of the Devourer, OctaviusIII? Yeah, sounds logical. Similar portfolio, similar domains... On topic: Neutronium_Dragon already said what Iīd answer to your question, Rekko. The "normal" (as in: doesnīt have a clue) cleric/worshipper CANīT take the hunger domain, since it would be inappropriate. As long as you have the "official" teachings of the BoV in mind, hunger doesnīt really enter the picture. The higher-ups (aka vampires etc.), on the other hand, DO know what itīs all about - and they usually do get hungry now and again... So Iīd only allow a cleric who is one of said higher-ups to take the Hunger domain - which rules it out for a PC (unless, of course, said PC is the disciple of Erandis or something :D). |

Hunger for the Devourer, Greed for the Keeper. That'd make more sense to me. |
| Rekko07-02-07, 11:48 AM | What about seekers of side sects to the Blood of Vol? What would the sect be like so that a cleric of said sect can choose the Hunger domain? |
| ArcTan07-02-07, 09:39 PM | Except that the Keeper is specifically associated with death and the Undead, while the Devourer is much more associated with blind natural forces and *living* instinct. I agree that it definitely shouldn't go to the Blood of Vol, because the BoV sees the hunger felt by Ghouls as a horrible curse or, at best, a terrible price to pay for immortality, not as an end in itself. Various Cults of the Dragon Below might take the Hunger domain or any other appropriately frightening and icky domain, though. Keith Baker's Eberron Expanded for Libris Mortis recommends adapting various gods and demons from that book as Rakshasa Rajahs for Eberron, meaning that there could be a Cult of the Dragon Below who worships a Rajah who's the equivalent of Doresain, the King of Ghouls, and grants the Hunger Domain. |
| OctaviusIII07-02-07, 09:43 PM | Well, I'd say it's something similar to the Cult of Life crossed with cannibalism: eternal life is given through consuming part of the body and blood of another. This could either be once a year or once a week, but it would explain the bite attack. This sect would revere vampires as the highest undead. If the sect you design ends up doing the cannibalism once a week, make a feat to give the cleric 1d4 CON each week he completes the ritual. It might also grant a kind of timeless body, where the character only ages those weeks he doesn't cannibalize another sentient (but still dies on time). |
