| DragoonDarkfire01-18-07, 01:52 PM | An article I wrote for people who want to introduce Incarnum in the Eberron setting. ______________________________________ The people around him cheered. Thaisall, a major repisentative of Sarlona had offered to replace the destroyed glass tower in Sharn with one of his own. Paying for it entirely with Redrian gold. Yet not everyone around him was cheering for his work. "Is he one of them?" Splint asked. The Warforged Soulborn was busy examining the blue energies surrounding his sword. A blade he liked to keep as keen and as sharp as possible. "He is" Siallia replied as the Kalashtar examined the Planar Ward around her neck. It was a handy soulmeld that had protected her and helped her in banishing Quori spirits back to their home plane. "Then we should prepare for tonight" Bearik said as the shifter totemist adjusted the chimera mask on his face. A soulmeld that allowed the shifter to be perfectly aware of his surroundings. "It is settled" Splint said as he looked over to the Inspired lord with a malice in his glowing blue eyes, reflecting off of his gold tinted plateing "tonight we shall banish that spirit back to it's wretchd plane" Character Options Kalashtar Incarnate People with my power draw incarnum with their soul. I am twice as powerful for I have two. - Kaizzeri a Kalashtar Incarnate Though rare amongst the Kalashtar, Incarnates offer an interesting proposal. Since the race carries two souls, a human soul and a Quori spirit they have interesting new options for game mechanics that no other races have because of their seperate spirits. Kalashtar Incarnates are often good or lawful incarnates but chaos incarnates can be found with suprising regularity amongst orphans. Split Soulmeld: Because of their two spirits a Kalashtar Incarnate can give up gaining a soulmeld at level 2 to gain the ability to shape soulmelds of a different Alighnment. You can only shape one soulmeld of an opposeing alighnment, however this soulmeld cannot be the opposite of what your current alighnment is. For example a neutral good Kalashtar incarnate can shape two good alighned soulmelds and one lawful or chaotic soulmeld. She cannot however shape an evil soulmeld since that is directly opposeing her alighnment. Whenever a Kalashtar would gain a new soulmeld treat her as haveing one less then she would normall have after 4th level (for example she would only have 4 soulmelds at level 7 rather then 5) Quori Radiance: your Quori spirit enhances your psychic powers that lay dormant inside of you. This ability replaces your Incarnum Radiance ability at 3rd level and you gain extra daily uses of it as that ability would increase. When you activate this ability you gain an exta 10 bonus powerpoints that you can use to manifest psionic powers. If you do not have levels in a manifester class you do not gain the ability to manifest powers. You also gain a +20 on sense motive checks due to your enhanced mind reading powers granted to you by your Quori spirit. At seventh level you can grant this power to all allies that share a similar alighnment trait as you within 30 feet of you as though you had the Share Incarnum Radiance ability. Spirit Avatar: At 20th level you may surrender your true incarnation ability to become a full avatar to your quori spirit. You are treated as though you are channeling a Quori through divine channeling (listed in the Ebberon Campaighn Setting and in Book of Exalted Deeds), you gain the Quori's Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma scores as well as acess to all it's memories of Dalquor and the exodus (memories of the Kalashtar who carry the same Quori spirit of yours are harder to gain). You gain the Quori's skill modifyers and ranks along with any supernatural abilities it may posses. This spirit must be mantained in your body by feeding it Essentai and every day you must supply this Quori spirit with ten points of Essentai to keep yourself as an Avatar of the spirit. Should your Essentai be drained or moved to another object or soulmeld you instantly lose the effects granted by this ability and revert to being an ordinary Kalashtar. Warforged Soulborn Steel and Wood drive my body, Incarnum and my soul give me strength. - Dart, a Warforged Soulborn SOULS! I NEED SOULS! - Mysterious Azure Warforged Necronate To some people Warforged cannot possibly have souls, they are but machines of war for a forgotten time. This is not true to the Warforged Soulborn who uses the power of souls everday as a means to his own ends. To a Warforged Soulborn, those who belive he does not have a soul are fools who are too blind to see his own power. Though their powers are unquestionably Incarnum and few creatures without souls have been able to use the power of Incarnum the argument still stands. Though considerably rare, due to the races general tendancy to neutrality. Warforged Soulborn are some of the most zeleous and ethic characters toward their preffered alighnment. Incarnum Plateing: at 2nd level a Warforged Soulborn may surrender his Incarnum defense ability and instead infuse his armor plateing with incarnum. The effect granted depends on his alighnment. Lawful Good: Your plateing takes on a golden hue to it. You gain a damage reduction 3/evil. Chaotic Good: Your plateing takes on an emerald green hue. Once per day you can use it to grant you an effect similar to freedome of movement caster level 10. Lawful Evil: Your plateing takes on a blood red hue and you gain an immunity to death an necromancy effects. Chaotic Evil: Your armor plateing takes on a black and shadowy appearence. You gain a damage reduction 3/good. When you gain your Share Incarnum defense ability you may use it as you would normally use it but the effects listed above are what is granted to allies of a similar alighnment. For example a lawful good Warforged soulborn uses his Share Incarnum Defense ability he may grant any lawful or good character near him with a DR 5/evil as he has. Bonus Feat: at 3rd, 7th and 11th levels you may take either an incarnum feat or a warforged feat. Soul Fusion: at 19th level a Warforged Soulborn may give up the Timeless Body class feature to gain a special infusion of incarnum that changes him and his soul into a new form. At 19th level the Warforged gains the Lawful, Good, Chaotic, Evil subtypes depending on his alighnment (a lawful evil Warforged Soulborn would gain the Lawful and Evil subtype). His natural weapons and any weapon he uses is treates as his alighnment for overcomeing damage reduction. Shifter Totemist The blood of magical creatures runs through my veins. But is their souls that makes me what I am. - Raven Voldorse, Shifter Totemist Shifter Totemists can be found throughout the Eldeen Reaches and in Aundair. They are usually treated as druids are in the shifter communities though with a bit more intrigue for their ability to draw upon the power of magical beasts rather then plain animals. They can also be found amongst the druid sects and most are among the wardens of wood. Although some have been seen amongst the Ashbound and the Gatekeepers. Shifting Totem: at 2nd level as you draw upon your lycanthrope heritage your soulmelds gain extra power. When you use your shifting ability while a Soulmeld is bound to your totem chakra the soulmeld is treates as though it's essentia capacity was full for the duration of your shifting. Totems Conncection: at 3rd level you surrender your Totem's Protection ability to gain a special advantage over Magical beasts. When you shift you are considered under the effect of Speak with Animals that only affects magical beasts. This effect lasts for the duration of your shift. Soul-Totem: At 20th level you surrender your totem embodiment ability to gain a special connection with your animalistic blood and magical aptitude with these creatures. Your type changes to the Magical Beast type and you become immune to all spells or effects that effect people only (such as carm person). When you shift your bonus to ability score is doubled for the duration of the shift. For example a 20th level shifter soulborn would gain a +4 to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution or Wisdom (depending on the shifter trait he chooses) instead of a +2. Soulmelds Dust Gauntlets Description: Evil Classes: Incarnate, Soulborn Chakra: Hands, Soul. | DragoonDarkfire01-20-07, 06:09 PM | 74 veiws and no replys? Maybe I'm not as awsome as I thought I was ;_; |
| Siberys01-20-07, 06:23 PM | Well, it's partly because you're psychic, and stole my brilliant ideas for progenitor-melds :P I like them, and it takes a load of work off of my butt. I have to look at them for balance issues (I've given only a cursory glance thusfar), but they'll definately see use. |
| Nived01-20-07, 06:41 PM | I tlooks like good stuff, but to be perfectly honest... I still don't understand Incarnum... and I really tried to read that book. |
| DragoonDarkfire01-20-07, 06:53 PM | Well it aint too hard... How do I put it best? Without going into technical stuff all you do is kinda "CREATE" magical items and then bind them to specific areas of your body, createing different effects depending on what it is. |
| Alex_01-20-07, 10:06 PM | I heard it mentioned in another thread, but I think Incarnum would work very well for Dhakaani Goblins. They had little in terms of arcane or divine magic compared to other cultures, and relied more on Bards as their chief source of magic. I could see Incarnum filling in a critical supplemental role in this regard. The Dhakaani also show some elements of historical asian cultures such as certain asthetic designs, very rigid society, agnosticism with high regard for the exploits of their ancestors, and many lawful institutions that would be analogous to popular fiction's samurai and ninjas. They could have viewed Incarnum as the product of a very strongly focused mind that draws upon the power of the cosmos, the body, and/or their ancestors to give them more practical and reliable "supernatural" benefits than less unpredictable spell slinging and enchanting by manipulating material components or belief in a higher power granting miracles. Chakrah of course, is popular in Indian/Asian philosophies. |
| DragoonDarkfire01-20-07, 10:51 PM | An interesting theory about the Dhakanni. However my original idea for Incarnum was that the Giants were the first to master it on Xendrik but a few of the teachings of Incarnum made its way to Khorvaire when a group of Elf refugees went to Khorvaire and told the basics of Incarnum to the goblin tribes before the empire of Dhakanni was formed. The Elfs eventually went to Arenal to join ther bretheren but their teachings remained with the Goblinoids until their destruction and the magic became second class to arcane and divine magic that ruled Khorvaire and to Psionics that rule Sarlona. It was only during the Last war was Incarnum put more into the mainstream when some of the Goblins told house Deneith about traditions of Incarnum. The House then explained this to the Twelve and it was then perfected and taught to several students who were intreasted in learning it. It's now slowly gaining more popularity among the nations of Breland and Aundair, not to mention that Thrane is interested in Lawful Good Soulborns for their even greater dedication to Law and Good then Paladins. The Twelve's experimentation has also lead to the creation of the Lost. The Twelve have yet to release the information about Lost to the general public, wishing instead to see what effects does incarnum have on various creatures and worrying about consiquences later. |
| Alex_01-21-07, 12:08 AM | Haven't enough things been stolen from the Giants/Elves? |
| Crake01-21-07, 10:05 AM | Maybe Incarnum came over from Sarlona, and still exists there today in a form? I dunno, I just thought about this after remembering that the Inspired basically set up religion in Rierda so that humans are worshiping the Inspired, believing they are the reincarnations of their ancestors. What if there was a tradition of ancestor worship in Sarlona before the Inspired took over, and humans took that with them, and some of the secrets to Incarnum with them to Khorvaire. But as worship for the Sovrign Host increased the ancestor worship and teachings of Incarnum fell by the wayside, only to be practiced in small pockets. It is just starting to make a reemrgance thanks to research from institutions like THe Twelve and the Arcane Congress. As for in Sarlona, the tradition of ancestor worship does ocasionally churn out practicers of Incarnum. The Inspired would treat this form of magic a little differently than they do with arcane and divine magic. The Inspired would probably latch onto Incarnates and use them as propaganda for the masses, cliaming that this is but a step to reincarnation as an Inspired, similar to the way they most likely treat psionic humans. But if an Incarnum user steps out of line or becomes a problem, and Inspired hitsquad is all over that poor fool. Some of these humans may have fled to Adat to join the Kalashtar and the Keepers of the Word. But that's just my take on the whole thing. |
| DragoonDarkfire01-21-07, 12:43 PM | Haven't enough things been stolen from the Giants/Elves? Well there's an Incarnum Dragon and since the giants were the only things to learn directly from the dragons... |
| Nived01-21-07, 02:11 PM | Just as Psionics are often associated with Dal Qor and Xoriat, I'd just associate Incarnum with Thelanis, possibly Doluurh. |
| Wrathamon01-21-07, 04:37 PM | I find some of the abilities to be a bit powerful for their level. Most obvious is the DR 5 at level two. Great stuff thou... the flavor is spot on. Would be nice to see a changeling as well. |
| DragoonDarkfire01-21-07, 04:57 PM | hmmm... okay I'll make it a DR 3. And I don't really know what I would do for a changeling... |
| Yakman07-13-07, 03:38 PM | iirc, incarnum is mentioned as being found Kaperian Island, off the coast of Xen'drik in SoX |
