| Deus_Proelii02-28-07, 11:36 PM | Sorry if this has been covered before, but I did a search and couldn't really find anything. If an artificer makes a wand of an infusion, what is the casting time of the infusion? The usual, or one standard action (being a wand)? |
| Cabral03-01-07, 12:01 AM | An artificer cannot make a wand of an infusion. (The errata removed the artificer's ability to "apply item creation feats to infusions".) If he could, it would be one standard action or the normal infusion casting time, whichever is longer. |
| Elderich03-01-07, 04:06 PM | unless quickened. then it is a free action :D |
| Nightshade03-02-07, 12:14 PM | Infusions may never satisfy the prerequisites of magic item creation (see ECS). Combined with the errata... infusions may not be made into magic items of any kind. |

| Loki565403-02-07, 04:48 PM | unless quickened. then it is a free action :D Nope. Activating a wand is always at least a standard action and even if it were allowed, Quicken Spell makes it a swift action, not a free action. Infusions may never satisfy the prerequisites of magic item creation (see ECS). Combined with the errata... infusions may not be made into magic items of any kind. With the notable exception of Minor Schema. But as for wands, you are correct. Oh No!!!!! that sentence just removed the WHOLE SCHEMA section from my Magic of Eberron. OHHH NOOOESSSSSSS Hey. Settle. |

That was why I was grinning. Cabral and I were just discussing this in the Art Handbook thread |

[EDIT:] Sorry to freak you out. ;) |
| Elderich03-02-07, 06:00 PM | Infusions may never satisfy the prerequisites of magic item creation (see ECS). Combined with the errata... infusions may not be made into magic items of any kind.Actually, not to be a pain, but this rule has nothing to do with infusions not being be made into magical items. Prior to the errata infusions could be in items. And this rule did not prevent that. Infusions cannot be applied to magical items ONLY because item creation feats allow spells, and only spells, to be applied to items, and infusions are not spells |
| Loki565403-02-07, 07:32 PM | Except the DMG says a quickened spell effect in an item is a free action to activate. That was why I was grinning. Cabral and I were just discussing this in the Art Handbook thread Page reference please? SRD Quote? All I see is this: Activating a magic item is a standard action unless the item description indicates otherwise. And this: Wands use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a wand is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity. (If the spell being cast, however, has a longer casting time than 1 standard action, it takes that long to cast the spell from a wand.) Sure it says "usually" but then goes on to define the exceptions. It never says anything about spells with shorter casting times, so they default to standard actions. |
| Elderich03-03-07, 02:36 PM | The page is noted in the artificer handbook, I think ~281 DMG Ch. 7 Magic Items, Creating Magic Items "Using metamagic feats, a caster can place spells in items at a higher level than nor*mal. For example, a caster could heighten a spell’s level to increase its effectiveness, or quicken a spell to allow it to be used as a free action, placing it within an item at the higher metamagic level. See Chapter 5: Feats in the Player’s Handbook for more on metamagic feats." |
