I dont remember which book the Necromental is in, but I was thinking if the Necromental is indeed an elemental, could it be bound as other elementals are? If it can be bound, what types of items would be created from it? If there was an airship with a bound necromental, could it be controlled by any means of controlling undead, as opposed to the standard ways of controlling elemental airships?

I think maybe... Ill have to do some research, but I simply dont have those resources on me at the moment. What say you all?

the idea has already been done in the eberron novel Blood and Honor by Graeme Davis, so go ahead and make the necro-bound airship

same cost as an airship with the appropriate modified elemental(air or fire necromental i think), plus cleric of evil theology equals

Could a cleric with rebuke undead then fly the ship just as someone with the Mark of storms could fly a normal stormship?

Also, I'm thinking you should get somesort of speed bonus for spending rebuke uses to bolster undead, or casting unhallow on the ring, or that sort of thing.

well, yeah, the idea is to control the elemental WITHOUT the use of a scion. they use a necromental (which still uses elemental binding to provide the propulsion) and a cleric to control it(or someone with rebuke undead).

how many evil lyrandrars do you think there are anyways?

Just curious: What would the visual or other effects of having a necro ship?

How would it look, feel, and PERFORM different from a regular Airship?

The ring would look different for a start.

I would assume that if you used a Fire Necromental, for example, the fire ring would be an odd color (blueish) or the fire would be dark, dark red and constantly put out thick black smoke.

It would, in theory, preform just like a regular airship, but would be vulnerable to things a normal air ship is not. For example, if an enemy with a cleric got close enough, I'd assume that a successful Turn Undead (since they normally affect necromentals IIRC) would do bad things to your ship. And a successful Greater Turning against the ring would probably necessitate the use of your feather fall charms.

On the other hand, Since the necromental functions as an undead for most purposes, pretty much any evil cleric can drive as if they had an appropriate dragonmark, just by rebuking the ring/helm.

Don't think this has been answered yet, but it's in Libris Mortis.

I've been thinking about variant airships too for my campaign. I'd like to see something a bit different than "a normal airship but the elemental ring looks different." One idea I have going is binding a shadow elemental (Tome of Magic) and allowing the airship to fly normally, but also allow it to shadow walk once per day or something.

There are soooooo mnay elementals out there, I think we could come up with some different ideas. Maybe a storm elemental ship allows the use of lightning bolts as attack options or a magma elemental ship could burrow through the ground, etc.

Picture this, a medium sized sail boat, with two large metal blades attached to the bottom of the hull (with cross braces and such).

Bound into a ring around the boat, is an ice Para-elemental. The boat moves by freezing the water ahead of it and skating along the ice surface.

Wouldn't an ice para-elemental require a plane of ice? Given that para-elementals are spawned from the sub-planes off the elemental planes?

I'd assume they would come from somewhere in the plane of water.

You mean like Risia, the Plain of Ice?

The Eberron Campaign Setting specifically says where the para-elementals exist. Inder planar inhabitants of each plane in the magic section.
