| Creature_Mastermind03-18-07, 12:04 PM | sounds ok but what do bale polymorph, major image, displacement do and what about the Siberys Abberant mark? |
| Metamagick03-18-07, 12:31 PM | sounds ok but what do bale polymorph, major image, displacement do and what about the Siberys Abberant mark? ............. Bale Polymorph=turns someone into an animal Major Image=Like Silent Image only better Displacement=50% chance of hittting And their are no Sibery's Abberant Marks, only greater. |
| The White Sorcerer03-18-07, 06:41 PM | Disguise Self This is already a power of the Mark of Shadow. Otherwise they're okay, I guess, except that some step on the toes of true marks. Aberrant marks have powers completely different from those of the true marks. Displacement, invisibility, and major image (especially the last two) thematically fit the Mark of Shadow. They are thus not really fit for aberrant powers. Here are some themes for aberrant marks: cold, fire, fear, death, and the ability to influence the minds of others. |
| fiendish_platypus03-18-07, 07:50 PM | I personally, use greater mage hand as a least, not mage hand. But other than that they look pretty good. |
| Creature_Mastermind03-18-07, 08:11 PM | sorry thinking of MoD for Siberys and now i know what those abilites do. |
| sooperspook03-21-07, 01:47 AM | Hmm.. How about some of the Summon [X] spells as AbMarks? |
| ogehn03-23-07, 06:42 PM | Hmm.. How about some of the Summon [X] spells as AbMarks? I don't have my books with me but to throw a few ideas... Perhaps Summon 'Living Fireball' ability or Summon Elemental |
| sooperspook03-23-07, 10:06 PM | I was thinking more along the lines of summoning fiendish creatures. I think there are some spells that only summon a specific creature, rather than a list, right? |

Off the top of my head, the only ones I can think of are fairly high level ones that summon large numbers of specific creatures (), or mid level ones that summon an single, exclusive, specially made creature (Luminous Assasin). That said, you can feel free to just use Summon Monster/Undead/Nature's Ally spells and just say that they always summon either the same creature(s) or a very small subset of creatures. |
| Moosh Nailo03-31-07, 06:32 PM | Issue with summoning... practicality, I guess. You're a commoner somewhere in the five nations, and you've developed an abberant mark of summoning. The nearby peasants are up in arms (torches and pitchforks, of course) about your "kyber-mark". So they're chasing you down the village streets. Now, while other aberrants would turn and make a barbeque of a couple peasants, or the nearest building, or scare them off, or what-have-you, you can only summon some weak creature for 6 seconds. Not exactly going to help you make a getaway, is it? So my problem is more flavor-relatead than anything else. And I realize that a PC could still find ways to take advantage of this. But yeah. I guess that's it? |

Regular: Mage Hand Ghost Sounds Lesser: [I]Major Image Displacement Gaseous Form Invisibility Greater: Bale Polymorph Telekinesis Thanks! What I don't understand is how you can possibly have Lesser or Greater Aberrant dragonmarks. It clearly states on P.47 of the ECS: You can never improve this mark in any way, and you can never gain a second mark. A character with one of the true dragonmarks (least, lesser, or greater) cannot select this feat, and a character with this feat cannot later select one of the true dragonmark feats. I can understand adding a few more 1st-level spells to the Aberrant list for variety, but the whole point of the Aberrant dragonmark is that it's a mutation, and simply nowhere as powerful, nor can it be developed like a true dragonmark. |

Despite the statement to the contrary in the ECS, there are feats to improve Aberrant marks in both the Player's Guide to Eberron and Dragonmarked. Dragonmarked in particular allows access to upgraded marks. I believe the logic behind these feats is the return of the power the aberrant marks wielded during the War of the Marks. Ya' know, when they could be used to level cities? ;) |

| timothyx04-27-07, 01:41 AM | do what I do for my game, don't let the player choose, roll randomly on the scroll list, they're aberrant for a reason. for the least, I use level 1 spells and let the player choose that one, it's only fair, and then for the lesser I roll a Level 3 spell, and least a level 5... if it comes up with a spendy material component, I say it costs xp.. I mean, you could also go by the route of a "thematically" line of aberrant marks, so if they got magic missile, they'd get melf's acid arrow for a lesser, and sound lance (or something in the same school of magic) for a greater aberrant mark. (I'm probably going to do the whole "it's in the same school" kind of thing for the new guy who's joining the group and wants to run the gamut of aberrant marks.) Oh, and I also allow for when I randomly roll, if he doesn't like the spell, he can choose to not take the feat at that level, and then next time he gets to choose a feat, he can try again for a different spell, a little on the cheese side, but sometimes getting Rary's mnemonic for a guy who's the tank, really blows... for the mark of kyber (which in my game there's 9), I simply rolled on the 7th level spell list (because the War of the Mark pretty much nuked all the aberrant marks that had people laying waste to entire armies, well, nuked them all, I figured any new Kyber marks would in fact, be far less powerful). and if I came across one of the same spells as one of the true siberys, I rerolled. as for your's, I'd nix the baleful polymorph, I've pretty much nixed the spell, and polymorph entirely. and for the Least Aberrant Mark, don't use cantrips, use level 1 spells. |
