| Highschool_Magic03-23-07, 11:58 PM | New Dragonmark: Mark of Change Least Mark of Change: Arcane Paint Spray 1/day, Minor Change 3/day; +2 to Disguise Checks Lesser Mark of Change: Polymorph 1/day, Stone Shape 1/day Greater Mark of Change: Seeming1/day, Create Fetch 1/day Mark of Siberys: Polymorph Any Object 1/day Quick Background The Mark of Change appeared on the changelings around the same time as the Mark of Making. It appeared in five Changelings, Bo, Rax, Cov, Oz, Nix, Hir. Thier decendants didn’t come together until Galifar unified them during his rule. They came together into a family line called Valen. The families have an innate skill of design which lead them to the creation of the Clothiers Guild. The Clothiers Guild designs the fashion of Eberron. They design, and with the help of the house of Cannith, the newest and highest fashions of Eberron. They hold fashion shows that show off their newest cloth designs. They use their polymorph ability to take on many different forms that their changeling powers cant, such as minotaur or hafling sized forms. They use Minor Change enhance their already useful changeling ability. Some family members can use their Create Fetch to create cheap, useful, models. The matriarch of the Clothiers Guild is Ya d’Valen (N bard 4/dragonmarked heir 3) They also created the Designers Guild. Valen changelings are world renown for their architectural skills. They have designed the layouts of many enclaves of other dragonmarked house, the airships of Lyrandar, palaces through out Eberron, interior designs of the lighting rail, the appearance of the warforged, and even with the design of Sharn. Almost all members have Arcane Paint Spray to create fashion sketches and blue prints. Valen has some of the worlds greatest illumanators and they use the power to illumanate. The House of Valen is also know for their interior dectorators that use Arcane Paint Spray to paint their rooms and room layouts. Their Polymorph Any Object is to help their bring their designs to life in a few moments. The patriarch of the Designers Guild is Fax d’Valen (N wizard 12/ heir of siberys 2). The House of Valen has good ties with the House of Cannith because of their need to create their clothes and building designs. They are also friendly towards the elves of the House of Phiarlan because they are also part of the social scene. Relations With Other Org. New Spell: Arcane Paint Spray Arcane Paint Spray creates a picture on any object. It can create 5 feet by 5 feet per caster level. The caster can design the color and design. It can be as detailed as the layouts for a new dress to a few simple lines for the newest Sharn mansion. It has a permanent duration. The paint can only be removed by another Arcane Paint Spray or Valen's Removal Paint (coming soon!) Moon The House of Valen's moon is called Saphros and the Mark of 12 Moons grants a enchancement +1 to INT or CHA Notes by the Author I think the Clothiers Guild might fall into the Shadowmarked house but thats why I created the Desingers Guild. I am sorry if my grammar is a bit off. I havent had any one really look at. I wanted to create a house for changelings and I think that they would be the perfect super models! I am going to be making feats, such as in Dragonmarked, and some magical items if this homebrewed rule is pans out. Lastly, thoughts? Ideas? Comments? Thanks!!!! Highschool_Magic |
| DreamChaser03-24-07, 03:30 AM | Interesting idea...are you going to do dragonmarks for the other new races as well? The running theme in core eberron is 13 marks (1 dead) to go with 13 planes (1 distant), 13 moons (one missing), 13 kalaraq quori (one trapped in a series of control crystals protecting Adar. This however is only the core. My greatest area of concern is that while the spells you selected for the marks fit great with the idea of changelings (perhaps too well; you'll note that the gnomes did not get mark of shadow and dwarves did not get mark of making) but the spells do not fit with the guilds you designed at all. How does changing shape help them make high quality clothing and designs? My suggestions? Least Mark of Change: Prestidigitation 3/day, Mending 3/day; +2 to Profession (Tailor) Lesser Mark of Change: Magic Vestment 1/day, Stone Shape 1/day Greater Mark of Change: Seeming, 1/day, Create Fetch 1/day Mark of Siberys: Polymorph Any Object 1/day This way there is a clothing / costuming aspect as well as the architecture aspect within their marks (after all the marks led to the guilds, not vice versa) DC |

I know that the spells didnt really go with it THAT well. I cant do Pres. and Mending because those already belong to other houses, but we didnt have the same brain wave because I wanted to to Pres. I also see that you did Seeming. That is illusion so I thought that kind of belong with a Shaow Marked House. I am not arguing you spell selection just trying to find the perfect spells. Lastly, You thought it was intresting!!!! *eyes light up* I can do something right! **that was not sarcasim** |
| The Dreaming Duck03-24-07, 11:22 AM | Just a few thoughts... Why united by Galifar? If the mark came into existence at the same time as the Mark of Making, then it has as much time as any other house - why wasn't it drawn into the Twelve (Thirteen?)? Why would Galifar - who essentially feared and restricted the power of the houses with the Edicts of Korth - encourage them to become a mercantile power instead of, say, assimilating the marked changelings into subservient positions within his government? Changeling Culture One thing this does is creates a publically recognized, powerful base for changelings. By the current material, this is something changelings lack in the Five Nations; they are distrusted, and only have a few communities of significant size, notably in Sharn. If they have an international guild, that presumably gives them more acceptabnce in the eyes of humanity. If that's what you're looking for, by all means, go for it - but personally, I like the idea of changleings being outsiders from the other races. For example, I prefer to have them as the dominant force behind brothels - saying that they've been forced to this state because society won't fully accept them - than supermodels, where they are on some level stars that other people look up to. But that's just how *I* like changelings. Personally, I'd be more inclined to go with your other approach of having the mark appear NOW. The changelings don't have a house, and are going to have a hard time convincing people they HAVE marks (because as changelings, they could be faking the physical marks). They know that the mark offers the chance to build an economic empire and a pillar for their people, as the Mark of Storm has done for the Khoravar - but how do they get that off the ground? How do they overcome the prejudice? Mechanically - Why give them enlarge person, mass for the Greater but not enlarge person for the Least? Most least marks offer three powers, and you only have two listed; it would make it internally consistent. Beyond this, I don't know minor change, but assuming it's a zero-level spell, the Least Mark of Hospitality allows prestidigitation 2/day, the Mark of Making allows mending 2/day, Scribing arcane mark 2/day... so the mechanics appear to be 1st level spell 1/day, or 0-level 2/day. |

Thanks for the comments!!!! Galifar discovered the dragonmarks on changelings and feared that their power would be to strong if they are not under the Edicts of Korth. To do that however, they would have to be a dragonmarked house. He offered less racism towards changeling in return and the fame/power of a house. The reason why I did Enlarge Person, Mass is because they dont actually BUILD the designs (with the exepction of Shape Stone) but they help out by making the workerS bigger and stronger with EPM and using their Shape Stone ability. Thanks again!!! Highschool_Magic |

| Highschool_Magic03-24-07, 12:15 PM | Does the Mark of Change have its own moon? Sure why not, how about: Saphrros And if you take the Mark of 12 Moons feat in Dragonmarked you can get a bonus to INT or CHA. HIghschool_Magic |

Now, I'm gonna try and say this without being a dick, but here goes: How many girls did you know in high school who were "going to be models"? How many of them are? Really, if your whole race's gimmick is now attractivity, and you're not quite good enough to be a model, what's the job you're next best suited for? This could offer an interesting paradigm in changling society, there are the changlings who make it, and become models, and clothes designers and architects, and those who fail, and become the brothel workers and thieves. There could even be a bit of elitism among the successful changlings. "I made it, why can't you?" Society only accepts the changlings as stars, or as filth. Which offers another interesting dichotomy, in that people have to figure out which end they're dealing with. |

| DreamChaser03-24-07, 05:29 PM | How bout a different take, inspired by an above post; what if rather than the clothiers guild, the changelings were organized into a courtesans guild? These courtesans, far above mere prostitutes, are more like the companions from Firefly and Serenity. They are taught to provide entertainment, comfort, and restorative conversation and "activities" Possible spells for their mark: Least: Healthful Rest 1/day, Lullaby 3/day. +2 to Sense Motive Lesser: Calm Emotions 3/day or Heart's Ease (BoED) 1/day Greater: Modify Memory 1/day or Symbol of Persuasion 1/day Siberys: Dominate Monster 1/day While at first brush, this seems to overlap the Mark of Shadow, this is a more personal level (rather than large group oriented) and works very well with the idea of the race. DC I was thinking about doing that (with almost the same powers!). But would the society accept this "high-class courtesans":P ? I do have another background story for this Dragonmarked house if you guys think that this is idea is better? |

I am thinking about adding some relations with the other Houses and there involvement in the Last War. But I will go with the fashion/design side. I updated the spells by the by!!! |

I do have another background story for this Dragonmarked house if you guys think that this is idea is better? Venice during the Renaissance was home to a very accepted, very high class population of courtesans (this era largely established what would become the modern concept of the word); similarly the geisha's of Kyoto Japan, while not commonly prostitutes, served elite men as trained companions, musicians, and entertainers; girls toiled to become geisha and even today they are highly regarded. I am confident that the Courtesan's Guild would be well received in Sharn and much of Breland, the Principalities, Aundaire, and (would have been) welcome in Cyre. Thrane and Karnath maybe not so much. DC |
| goblin_pride03-26-07, 01:04 PM | I am confident that the Courtesan's Guild would be well received in Sharn and much of Breland, the Principalities, Aundaire, and (would have been) welcome in Cyre. Thrane and Karnath maybe not so much. The only real problem I could see with it would be in the seemingly overlapping with the "Hospitality" of Ghalladra or the "Entertainers" of the elven D'marked houses. Having said that, it would explain why the D'marked changeling house* isn't well-known, because they're being used and abused by the other D'marked houses as a supplement to their market. Changeling courtesans bearing marks could be hidden away in the Inns of the Ghalladra performing their services for those capable of affording their entertainments and that would explain away the utter lack of knowledge that the house even exists. *I don't actually approve of giving D'marks to the new races, but I saw a puzzle in the story to solve and thought I might give the idea a healthy push. Cheers. |
| timothyx04-27-07, 01:59 AM | *I don't actually approve of giving D'marks to the new races, but I saw a puzzle in the story to solve and thought I might give the idea a healthy push. Cheers. I'm not a fan either of giving any of the new Races d'marks, and especially not the kalashtar or changlings d'marks, I'd never give the kalashtar d'marks in any event (maybe something akin to a feat that gives them new psion powers sure, but meh).. However... in my game, changlings can get aberrant marks, and now that i think about it, I think i'll rewrite the concept a bit for my game, and in a psuedo d'mark feat progression with the Courtesan thing, cause, thats just an awesome idea. D'marks are the provisio of the races written, giving them d'marks really takes away from the established flavor of Eberron imho, but, giving them feats to cast some magic, and such, that sounds great. oh, and for changlings with d'marks, I made a thread about 2 years ago about them having them if they had the emulation feat etc, and the holy cow agreed as the raw (I wasn't the only one who came up with it, but I think I made it into the AKB thread first), but as far as I'm concerned, Races of Eberron doesn't exist. (except the Relic Hunter Feat, and two other fluff bits for shifters I don't remember) |
